[6.10-rc4] SMB errors - spamming /var/log/syslog with chdir_current_service: vfs_ChDir(/mnt/user/sharname) failed

  • Annoyance

I have observed that while using an Active Directory domain, there is an issue with permissions by default.

My syslog overflowed during a file transfer with messages like the one below:

Mar 30 17:41:08 server smbd[10832]:   chdir_current_service: vfs_ChDir(/mnt/user/dirname) failed: Permission denied. Current token: uid=1428161657, gid=1428161027, 5 groups: 1428161657 1428161027 1000003 1000004 1000005

upon further inspection - all the shares I created had similar issues, which eventually filled up the /log dir and caused grief

doing an ls -l /mnt/user shows the following:

drwxrwx--x+ 1 user1 domain users 12 Mar 30 10:15 Arcade_b/
drwxrwxrwx  1 user1 domain users  0 Mar 27 13:48 appdata/
drwxrwxrwx  1 user1 domain users  0 Mar 27 13:48 domains/
drwxrwxrwx  1 user1 domain users  6 Mar 27 13:48 isos/
drwxrwxrwx  1 user1 domain users 26 Mar 27 13:48 system/
drwxrwxrwx  1 user1 domain users  6 Mar 29 16:47 test/
drwxrwx---+ 1 user1 domain users 51 Mar 29 16:30 vm_data/

doing a chmod 771 on the Arcade_b dir in this example eliminates the error messages, although I'm not sure as to why?
