[7.0.0] Unaccessible (grey) files in MacOS Finder with "Enhanced macOS interoperability"=Yes

  • Closed

Hi Lime Tech Team,

I use Unraid in a Mac-only environment with SMB shares formatted in btrfs. From the start I set "Enhanced macOS interoperability" to Yes in the SMB settings. I did not tweak SMB any further manually. The server was running fine until recently. I assume, but am not sure, if my issue is related to the update to version 7.0.0. Since this new version of Unraid contained changes in the macOS interoperability as per the release notes.

My issue:
When I copy a file from the Mac into a share, the file gets copied properly (I can see it in Unraid file browser), but Mac is greying the file and it cannot be opened and used. MacOS is showing an error that the object is used by MacOS and can thus not be used. I tried back and forth, but could not get it to work.

Some users reported that when downloading a file from the web directly into the share, it was not greyed. Also, when a whole folder was copied, the files inside were not greyed.

As I was under the impression that it must be related to the way MacOS handles SMB, I tried setting "Enhanced macOS interoperability" to No and kept the rest of the settings as is. And voilá, no more greyed files.
Potentially something went wrong with the Unraid 7 macOS enhancements for SMB?

Perhaps others have the same issue and Lime Tech likes to investigate.

Thanks in advance and best wishes,
Sven
