  • Both NVMe hard drives are not recognized at the same time

    Hello,
i am building an unraid server.
    I bought these components:

    CPU ryzen 7 5700x
Asrock ASRock X570S PG Riptide (2x M2 Slot PCIE 4x4)
    2x Lexar Professional NM800 M.2 1TB
    Nvidia gtx 960

    to my problem:

Unfortunately, both NVME hard drives are not recognized at the same time.
individually it works wonderfully, whether in slot 1 or 2.

I've read a lot in forums about the second M2 port and I think it's because of the hard drive ID.

what I have found so far is:

    Dec 1 12:31:08 Unraid-5700X kernel: nvme nvme1: 32/0/0 default/read/poll queues
    Dec 1 12:31:08 Unraid-5700X kernel: nvme nvme0: 32/0/0 default/read/poll queues
Dec 1 12:31:08 Unraid-5700X kernel: nvme nvme0: globally duplicate IDs for nsid 1
    Dec 1 12:31:08 Unraid-5700X kernel: nvme nvme0: VID:DID 1d97:5236 model:Lexar SSD NM800PRO 1TB firmware:3.7.F.V

    Bios updated
    IOMMU Enabled

    thank you for the effort.

    Daniel

    i found this:

IOMMU group 20:[1d97:5236] 03:00.0 Non-Volatile memory controller: Shenzhen Longsys Electronics Co., Ltd. Device 5236 (rev 01)

    [N:0:0:1] disk Lexar SSD NM800PRO 1TB__1 /dev/nvme0n1 1.02TB

IOMMU group 21:[10ec:3000] 24:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Killer E3000 2.5GbE Controller (rev 06)

IOMMU group 22:[1d97:5236] 28:00.0 Non-Volatile memory controller: Shenzhen Longsys Electronics Co., Ltd. Device 5236 (rev 01)

This controller is bound to vfio, connected drives are not visible.

Like suspected it needs a quirk because the device doesn't have a unique nsid, note that this is a device problem, it doesn't conform to specs, but it's not the only one, I'll ask LT to add a quirk, same was already done for another 5 or 6 devices, but they can only do that for the next Unraid release.

I thank you very much for the quick effort.
how sure is it that it will work on next update?
Because otherwise I would send the hard drives back and order some from Samsung or something similar.

    thanks

They should work on the next update, but the next update can take some time to be released, so if replacing them with Samsung devices is an option I would do it, Samsung NVMe devices are known to not have that issue, at least the current models.
