Can't I run unRAID headless? I really don't need GUI inside my VMs. Also could you recommend an inexpensive motherboard for AM4? I'm kinda lost here since a day now.

Really? Cause I'm reading lots of confusing info. See for example the wiki @ https://wiki.unraid.net/Hardware_Compatibility#Motherboard_SATA_controllers. Is this outdated? Because if so it should be removed from the wiki.

I just saw that for unRAID people are using USB drives for the OS, so I guess I don't need that one SSD. Also now I'm thinking about going all in: Means building a home server that is powerful (not low power anymore) and can run VMs, Docker, Plex WITH transcoding and so on. Thanks for the SATA ports advice.

Hi everyone, so I need a storage box. I don't want VMs but just plain storage with Plex (without transcoding). I need it to be silent and low power. What do you guys think about these parts. Big Case: Fractal Define XL R2 Low power CPU: AMD Athlon 200GE Mainboard: AsRock AB350 Pro4 (6x SATA III) RAM: Samsung M378A1K43CB2-CTD RAM: Power Unit SSD for OS: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB I already have an SSD for the Cache and 4x WD REDs for storage. Hello everyone, we moved to Switzerland few weeks ago, so I have limited hardware access and can choose from shops like https://www.digitec.ch/. Could you guys give me a recommendation for a hassle free build? I was reading some wiki docs but some of the recommendations are from 2011. These are my requirements: I have only little room and had a small QNAP box until know. The case should be small (up to 6x 3.5" HDDs and maybe 2x 2.5" SSDs). My new storage box should be as silent as possible. Currently I need about 5 TB of photos and videos. I would like to be able to have access to everything even if one disks breaks. I need to be able to monitor disk health and want to be able to alert myself over e-mail as soon as a disk dies. I want to run Plex on it but without transcoding. I want to run the OS on seperate SSD. Cheers Sherry
