  1. I replaced a small hard drive in my Unraid 6 server with a larger one. I would like to use the old Unraid HD in Windows again. However, when I attach the drive through a USB dock, it is not recognized in Win 7 & or Win 10. Is there a process to "unformat" the HD so that it can be recycled for use in Windows?
  2. Those should all work fine. I have two of those motherboards, and these are what I used: http://www.ebay.com/itm/128gb-16x-8gb-PC3L-10600R-2Rx4-Reg-ECC-Memory-Dell-Poweredge-R610-R710-R810-/142059461637? Thanks Steven Is any one brand or bus speed significantly better than another?
  3. Lurking for several months. I purchased 2 of these CPUs and the Supermicro X9DRL-3F mb. The Supermicro site only lists a few tested memory modules for this board, which I am having difficulty finding. I was wondering if these of these memory kits would work and if so which would you recommend? Looking for best performance value. In other words, a little more $$ for significant performance is ok but not interested in the reverse. http://www.natex.us/Nanya-8GB-Memory-Modules-128GB-Kit-p/128gb-nt8c72c4ng0nl-cg.htm http://www.natex.us/Hynix-8GB-Memory-Module-128GB-Kit-p/128gb-hmt31gr7cfr4a-h9.htm http://www.natex.us/Hynix-8GB-Memory-Module-128GB-Kit-p/128gb-hmt31gr7cfr4c-pb.htm http://www.natex.us/Samsung-8Gb-M393B1K70DHO-CKO-128Gb-Kit-p/128gb-m393b1k70dho-cko.htm I am also open to other recommendations. I am looking @ 128 Gb as I would rather build it out now than upgrade down the road. I have never wished for less power after I have built a system. Thanks.
  4. I am trying to locate a dual CPU ATX MB. I have found several Supermicro boards at the site, http://www.superbiiz.com/query.php?dp=1&dt=2&categry=226&name=Xeon-Server-Motherboard&pa0=Dual+LGA2011&pa5=ATX&brand=&pa1=&pa2=&pa3=&pa4=&pa6=&pa7=&pa8=&pa9=&stock=Yes&searchStr=Search+from+current+results&myanchor=%23displaytop&brand=&pa0=Dual+LGA2011&pa1=&pa2=&pa3=DDR3&pa4=&pa5=ATX&pa6=&pa7=&pa8=&pa9=&stock=Yes&nl=30&searchStr=Search+from+current+results&ob=r&myanchor=%23displaytop How can I tell if the are for v1 /v2 CPUs rather than v3s. thanks.
  5. I have been following this build. I need to rebuild my Unraid box, it just can't keep up with the new plugins and additional work I am asking from it, specifically the Emby Server plugin. I think I am going to go with the MB you used, I love the number of SATA ports on the board. Did the board work out of the box for Unraid 6? I thought I had read that the bios had to be flashed to make everything work but I might be mistaken. I am looking at this board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182821 with either Xeon E3-1276 v3 Haswell 3.6GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1150 84W Server Processor or Intel Xeon E3-1246 v3 Haswell 3.5GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1150 84W Server Processor. There is only about a $65 difference between the 2 processors. I plan to re-use the 2 x 8GB memory sticks that I just installed in the old machine in hopes of speeding it up. Wondering if I will see any significant benefit from the 1276. I also have a Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 8-Port SAS/SATA Add-on Card in the present box that I would reuse if possible to allow at least 16-17 drives for future expansion (using Norco 500SS cages). I have been running Unraid for about 5 years but I am still a bit of a NOOB in regard to much of the technical information. It appears that I will not need a discrete video card if I use this board with either of these processors. Can anyone confirm? My goal is to be able to smoothly run Emby Server with Kodi in multiple locations in my house, I have had no luck with MsSQL. Currently I have Emby Server running but when I try to stream movies to Kodi, my Unraid server crashes, pegging CPU usage at 100%. I have multiple types of video files, including mp4, mkv, avi I am hoping to be able to run as many different types as possible. I look forward to comments. Sorry if I high jacked this thread, it seemed like the best place to ask these questions. Thanks.
