Another update from SWAG and my configuration is broken again. Same error as before:

nginx: [emerg] "stream" directive is not allowed here in /etc/nginx/conf.d/stream.conf:3
nginx: [emerg] "stream" directive is not allowed here in /etc/nginx/conf.d/stream.conf:3
nginx: [emerg] "stream" directive is not allowed here in /etc/nginx/conf.d/stream.conf:3

I renamed /etc/nginx/conf.d/stream.conf to a non .conf name, restarted and it's back now. Why is this offending file constantly injected and start producing errors every time I update?

I'm getting the same error message, however, that pathway does not exist in krusader and I cannot see that file. How do you locate it? Thanks

Ok, so a little update from a first time unraider.

got two (14tb) drives that I’m preclearing at the mo and will get into the server when they are ready. They are wd element drives. Which are currently running very hot during preclear (around 50c). Had to get a fan on them to bring them back down to a more acceptable 34c.

I also forgot to mention I 3D printed two skirts to sort out the airflow issue as seen below. A word of warning these skirts need to be filled / cut down a bit to work with Noctua fans as they are slightly too high for the Ds380 drive cage. But otherwise good to go.

I don’t have a 3D printer myself so had to use an online service to print them (£25) for 3 but you only need 2. You can find the design files on google.

my only other gripe so far is that with Unraid version 6.8.3 you can’t see the cpu or fan temps on ryzen CPU or boards. Apparently this is fixed in version 6.9 but I’m going to wait for a stable release before upgrading (I’m a nervous neW unraider).

ill let you know the temps of my new drives once they are through preclear (about a week) and on the server

Have the ducts lowered your HDD temps? And would you mind telling me which online service you used to buy  them please?

I think you're on the right track though because I tested 3 films just now and noted their TrueHD bandwidth requirements:

    • IT Chapter 2 (2160p, UHD REMUX DV HVEC TRUEHD+ATMOS) - TrueHD audio track = 3.4Mbps
    • Spider-Man No Way Home (2160p, UHD REMUX DV HVEC TRUEHD+ATMOS) - TrueHD audio track = 4.1Mbps
    • Moana (2160p, UHD REMUX HDR HVEC TRUEHD+ATMOS) - TrueHD audio track = 7.7Mbps

    Results are as you suggested:

    • IT2 plays fine, struggles when navigating
    • Spider-Man struggles, eventually plays, but buffers and you cannot navigate
    • Moana won't start.

If the docker container is limiting the transcode ability for direct play, (which doesn't make sense to me by the way, direct PLAY, not stream, mean no transcode?),  then surely Plex forums won't have a solution...

Since it's direct play, I'll look on Plex forums and see if it's an android Plex client issue

I just came across advice on the Plex forums which suggests installing the latest Plex beta (arm64v8a). And I can gladly say the issue has been resolved for me :)

The usual cure for audio issues with Plex is to delete the Codecs folder in Plex appdata (under Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server) which forces Plex to download the codecs again as needed.  Sometime a particular audio codec becomes corrupted.

Thank you but unfortunately this hasn't solved the problem for me. Any other ideas?

Getting a new issue in that Plex is refusing to play any video with a TrueHD sound track. I've tried a few different clients, Windows, Shield & Phone, all the same. I just get the buffering animation endlessly. Logs show nothing. Anybody else getting this? Or anybody got any ideas on where to start troubleshooting this?

I'm having exactly the same issue after the recent update. Other audio formats than TrueHD are working. Have you had luck in solving this?

Neither unraid or the container use a public IP.

You should get the same IP doing curl of config.io in both unraid and the container.

Sorry what I should have said is the plex container traffic is routed through a VPN. So before the update, the console curl ifconfig.io IP address was the same as the IP address shown in settings>remote access. Now remote access is showing the IP address of the unraid server instead of the VPN. Does that make sense? Thanks

  7. Hi everyone, I would appreciate some advice please.

After a recent update to plex version 1.22.1.4228 I've now noticed that in the remote access settings, plex is using the public IP of my unraid server instead of the public IP of the docker container itself. Is there any way to force plex back to using the public IP of the docker container? I have verified the container's public IP by using curl ifconfig.io

    Thank you!

  8. Sorry I had edited my post above. What do you make of the second adapter? I've got a 10-1 pin usb 2.0 motherboard connector but I think either should work okay?

Other thing to note is I was using the unrar commmand (terminal) on some password protected rar files which was producing an error ("ioctl" related). Would this have caused the crash?? Because I've rebooted the system and it's been stable now whilst during parity check.

EDIT: issue resolved. unrar within terminal doesn't appear stable. used winrar from windows VM instead.

  9. I've searched for the cable but came across these instead

    1) https://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com-USBMBADAPT-Female-Motherboard-Header-Black/dp/B000IV6S9S/ref=sr_1_14?dchild=1&keywords=internal+USB+2.0+to+external+USB+2.0&qid=1589546446&sr=8-14

Can't seem to find the cable you mentioned. If you have a link I would be grateful.

Also, I take it you're certain this is a port issue and I don't need to run any further diagnostics (SSH)?

  10. I've already plugged the USB stick into a different port. Is there any other way to check the USB?

I'm not able to download diagnostics from Tools (it just pauses). Neither can I shutdown from the webgui (I'm using hard reset - power button 5s). The buttons on the webgui are generally unresponsive.

  11. Hi guys new to unraid 6.8.3 which I've set up on a Ryzen 2400G (10 dockers and 1 VM). It's been working fine for the last 2 weeks, however, this morning I was unable to access the webgui with the following error:

Warning: session_write_close(): write failed: No space left on device (28) in /usr/local/emhttp/login.php on line 33

Warning: session_write_close(): Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/var/lib/php) in /usr/local/emhttp/login.php on line 33

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /usr/local/emhttp/login.php:33) in /usr/local/emhttp/login.php on line 35

I came across another forum post advising to run win 10 chkdsk on my usb (cruzer 2.0) and it appeared to correct errors on the drive. Up and running again the system has started an automatic parity check. But after a few minutes various Warning: errors started to appear in the dashboard and main page all containing the following lines:

    Quote

    /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix/include/Dashupdate.php or DeviceList.php

I'm unable to run diagnostics in Tools (click and nothing happens). Can't access system stats either.

RAM usage is higher than normal at 75% - usually between 40-50%

Fix common problems is advising that: rootfs file is getting full (currently 100% used) and invalid folder cache/disk 1,etc within /mnt

    Help please!

Just a totally unrelated side note about the Silverstone DS380 (maybe applies to the CS380 as well)

When you look up many older builds, pictures, reviews, videos etc. it shows the backplane being powered by 2x Molex connectors. (for the 8 HDDs) I believe this has somewhat recently and quietly changed to 1x Molex and 2x SATA Power.

I am considering this case with a Corsair SF450 PSU which has one cable with Molex-only and one with SATA-only. The good thing with this change is that power for the 3,5" HDDs can now easily be split between two cables from the PSU without any adapters - which is a good idea - however getting power to the four 2,5" Slots is more awkward. Likely will use a Molex to 4xSata splitter, that looks like it uses crimped connectors and will be fine for the lower power needs of SSDs and 2,5" HDDs. (DeLock 60142)

I have no idea if there may be old stock around or when this change has actually happened. Maybe order your case first and check before getting any additional or custom cables.

Ah that's interesting certainly changes perspective on the cabling, thank you. (Btw, this is a DS380 thread so not totally unrelated after all!)

I'm awaiting delivery of the case now so will update once I know. I've ordered a fan splitter but still need to order HBA breakout cables, etc.

Is this cable similar to the DeLock? https://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=383&area=en

I replaced the rear exhaust fan (with a Be Quiet! 120mm non-PWM fan) and added another intake fan on the bottom between the PSU (I use an SFX PSU) and the drive bay.  This is not an option in the DS380, I assume.

My drive temps are around 32-37C when in use over a period of time.  The three that are active right now, including parity are all showing 34C.

During a parity check, my 7200RPM parity drive can get up to 44C.  My parity checks take about 16.5 hours.

No the extra fan is not possible on this one. Those temps are good but I'm wondering how much of that owes to the larger case.

All this modding has got me thinking whether I can sacrifice the hotswapping and just go for the Node 804 instead!

  14. 1 hour ago, Hoopster said:

I used the NF-F12 fans on the drive bay as they have a high static pressure.  I used the Y-splitter to connect both to a motherboard PWM header.  The NF-A12 look like they could be a good option as well.

I have the CS380 not the DS380 but it is the same hotswap bay.  I know the DS380 is smaller, but, perhaps some of the mods documented in this thread about the CS380 will apply in the DS380 as well.

Have you replaced the rear exhaust or is it still stock? And what are your temps like?

Btw, that thread looks useful thank you!

  15. Hi everyone, just bringing up an old thread as I'm set on the DS380 due to the hot-swappable bay. I understand the carboard mod makes a difference to temps but I'm looking to order Noctua fans alongside the case. I will be using an LSI card so would appreciate advice on shorter SATA cables?

And would I be right in saying three NF-A12x25 are the ones to go for now? And should these be run off the motherboard (Asus RS X470i) with a fan splitter instead of the hard drive back plate?

Probably more than enough if you're careful how you use it. Many people seem to not give any thought to how they use cache, and just try to cache everything all the time.

Don't cache the initial data load since cache won't have the capacity to hold it all, and it is impossible to move from cache to the slower array as fast as you can write to cache. Mover is intended for idle time.

Your appdata, domains, and system shares belong on cache and should stay there (and will unless you change their settings or fill cache up). This is so your dockers and VMs won't have their performance impacted by the slower parity writes, and so they won't keep array disks spinning.

I have a similar capacity in my cache pool. I cache very little. My dockers as noted, and my plex DVR since there is some benefit to SSD speed when trying to record and playback at the same time.

Most of my other writes are scheduled backups and queued downloads, so I don't care if they take a little longer to write since I am not waiting on them. They go directly to the array where they are already protected by parity.

Other people will have other use cases, but the main point is, think about it instead of caching everything all the time.

Thank you for the advice. Are there any benefits to using a separate unassigned cache drive (NVME) for VM?

  17. Hi everyone, this is my first unraid build but I would like to keep most of the parts from my existing windows 10 HTPC. Will be mainly used to maintain a media library, setup Nextcloud and windows 10 VM.

    - Case: Silverstone DS380B (still to purchase - will replace Silverstone RVZ02)
    - Mainbord: Asus ROG Strix X470i
    - CPU: AMD Ryzen 2400G
    - CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L9a low profile

    - RAM: Corsair 8GB (2x4) DDR4-3000
    - PSU: Corsair SF450W

    - Cache: 1 x 250GB 850 EVO 2.5" (current OS)

    - Storage: 1 x 10TB WD Red Pro (existing data)

    - Storage: 1 x 14TB WD Enterprise (existing data)

    - Storage: 2 x 16TB Toshiba Enterprise OR 3 x 14TB shucked WD externals (still to purchase)

    - HBA: LSI SAS 9207-8i (still to purchase)

Few questions if anyone could kindly help please:

    - Is the 250GB SSD enough for cache?

    - Also is the HBA used in combination with the motherboard SATA ports or best on it's own? And are SFF-8087 cables used instead of the regular male to male SATA cables?

And please feel free to make any other suggestions.

    Thank you in advance.
