  1. if you haven't already seem it. https://wiki.unraid.net/USB_Flash_Drive_Preparation i used a 16GB sandisk cruzer force usb2.0. Worked perfectly fine with zero issues using the USB creator. https://wiki.unraid.net/Hardware_Compatibility#USB_Flash_Drives
  2. Just my two cents, but if your prepared to spend $400 on parts for a more efficient server, which is realistically is only going to drop your idle by maybe half if your lucky. Then you gotta do the math. 75watts (less) is equal to 75watts x 24hours x 365 days 657,000 watts / 1000 (1 kWh) - 657 kWh's @ $0.20 per kWh is $131.40 additional on your bill per year. That's assuming you pay BS high energy rates like i do here in he land down under. Is it worth it to you? Again, just my 2cents.
  3. if you looking for a "no" power cable video card to run for you purpose. you could also try a RX550 4GB model or RX560 (as long as its a 75W TDP design). IIRC mac is native / compatible with AMD graphics cards so they'd have to be your first choice. Though, if you can download unofficial drivers for Nvidia Graphics to run on your mac VM, then you'd be looking at the GTX1650 or older GTX1050. All of these cards I've listed are all Dual slot cards and would take up 2 spaces on the motherboard. On a side note, if you need additional horsepower for your 3D application. you can look above these models, but you will require a power adapter. There are SATA power / Molex power to pcie power adapters. I would ONLY use these IF you cannot swap your power supply out and again Only on a card with sub 150W TDP like an RX570 - GTX1660 (non super). And i would urge you to consider the gauge of the wire coming from the SATA power cables and how many devices you run off those. If you overload those wires you're gonna have a bad day. **EDIT** if your only looking for a single slot card, have a look at the "workstation" cards like the AMD FirePro V5900 Workstation Graphics Card or AMD FirePro V7900
  4. Hey there, Ryzen 3600 doesn't have integrated graphics, So it not an APU it's just a CPU. Only the 200GE, Ryzen - 3000G, 2200G, 2400G, 3200G and 3400G are APU's. You can still do CPU trans-coding and if your sticking to 1080P and under, on a single stream you'll be fine. Providing your dockers and VM's arnt hogging all your resources. You will still need a video card at least for your initial UnRaid configuration and you will need a video card for your VM's unless you run them headless (don't quote me on that one) i think this might be based on your requirements for the VM. Personally i went with a Ryzen 1600AF and i too had my concerns with AMD and UnRaid. But it looks like they have come along way. I haven't been plagued by any of the older issues that were present. Make sure you do your research with Ram speeds and Rank for motherboard and CPU compatibility. There a lot of good articles buried on here with helpful tips on these selections. i went with a B450 chipset on my motherboard, if i had my pick again i would have gone for an x470 / x570 for extra Pci-e lanes. Again you'll need to check for CPU / EEC memory compatibility, speed rank etc. **Edit** just to clarify, some motherboards Will require a GPU to boot with Ryzen CPU's - YMMV
  5. GTX 1660 is about 10% better than an older GTX 1060. Still capable of some light 1080P Gaming. if gaming isnt your thing, then the encode / decode features of the 1660 over the 1030 would be worth it. I'm in the same boat as you right now. I had an RX570 in my new server that just let go after 5 days ( 2nd hand card ) threw in an RX550 for now. But I'm leaning towards Nvidia now for the container pass thru / transcoding benifits. I guess it comes down to cost and use case. Parts are expensive right now with current world events. 1030 would probably be good enough, though 1660 would give you some more head room. maybe even look into the 1650?
