  1. Should be fine for a basic test setup -- doesn't support vt-d, so you won't be able to do pass-through; but that's not required for KVM, and it does have vt-x support for basic hardware virtualization.

    thanks for the reply.

is it the CPU or MOBO that doesn't support vt-d?

CPU doesn't support vt-d for sure. and i guess i should ask MSI about this

i did want to test out the pass-through just to see if i can set up headless htpc, but this will do for now

  2. Hi Guys,

I want to test out KVM functionality and some others in unraid 6 so I was thinking about building a cheap machine to do so.

I already have 4 GB of ram, PSU (CX430), some extra hdds, and a case (Source 210).

so all i need is a mobo + cpu combo

Luckily, I have a Microcenter around and they have this new Mobo + CPU combo on sale

    nbrCash.png

That's MSI Z97 PC Mate + G3258 for $99. there's possibilities of $10 rebate, but $100 is not too bad to spend on a test machine.

What do you guys think? Would this be okay to test VM functionality of the new unraid 6?

  3. I'm getting stuck in the last steps. I can load the unraid.kvm (it starts fine without pastrough) but when I add a pci sata controller and try to start again (after a shutdown) it gives an error.

Error starting domain: internal error: process exited while connecting to monitor: char device redirected to /dev/pts/2 (label charserial0)

I see my processor is detected as a sandy bridge but its a 3470t and the cpu features are not detected? Any idea? :-\

which motherboard you have? the motherboard has to support IOMMU as well and you need to turn it on in the bios to pass through hardware as far as i know

  4. That's the plg I got from the OP, so should I run the older plg (4.7) ? I will run the command suggested but with this plg or the older one ?

Your plg is either corrupted or not sure how it was downloaded. it contains some characters that i didnt write.

just delete that one and run my 3 command lines.

    wget --no-check-certificate https://unraid-subsonic-plugin.googlecode.com/files/subsonic-4.8-6.0jj.plg

this line downloads the plg for you, which i have in my 3 command lines

no need to install 4.7 first.

just delete what you have, and run my command lines

  5. Yes I downloaded the plugin into the folder, and ran as per OP. not sure why I got the error, but I wanted to try this application for my music get it setup and going. When it is installed properly will it appear in the settings tab like plex does ?

I tried again to be sure, did a reboot too... I ran :

    root@UnRAID:~# installplg /boot/config/plugins/subsonic-4.8-6.0jj.plg

And get the same error. The plg is in ....

    \\UNRAID\flash\config\plugins\subsonic-4.8-6.0jj.plg

Can you open the plg file that you downloaded in a note pad? is it empty?

delete the plg file and start over.

just run these line by line:

    cd /boot/config/plugins/
    wget --no-check-certificate https://unraid-subsonic-plugin.googlecode.com/files/subsonic-4.8-6.0jj.plg
    install subsonic-4.8-6.0jj.plg

  6. New stuff is: interface, DLNA, year and genre to albums, album artist support.

Thought you might release an updated plugin with this version of Subsonic. Or maybe you'll wait until 4.9 is out of beta and in regular release.

    thanks!

Sorry, not sure if you read my last post but i probably won't be updating this plugin anymore

  7. Hm, been messing with this, can't seem to get it to install on the server. What am I doing wrong ?

Did you download subsonic-4.8-6.0jj.plg into the plugin folder?

Any ideas from following instructions ?

I am looking for a solution to play my media from unraid... didn't like how PLEX worked for mp3s so I thought I'd try this.

    root@UnRAID:~# installplg /boot/config/plugins/subsonic-4.8-6.0jj.plg

    installing plugin: subsonic-4.8-6.0jj

Warning: simplexml_load_file(): I/O warning : failed to load external entity "/b

    oot/config/plugins/subsonic-4.8-6.0jj.plg" in /usr/local/sbin/installplg on line

    13

    xml parse error

    root@UnRAID:~#

Guess I need proper instructions on how to install this ....  or I'm just retarded and I am missing something , do I have to install 4.7 first then install 4.8 ?

This error happens when there isnt a file at /boot/config/plugins/subsonic-4.8-6.0jj.plg

  8. hey guys.. sorry i've been MIA in this thread.

i'm not gonna lie, i've been lazy.

I originally edited someone else's Subsonic plugin because it was broken.

I fixed it to use it for myself in unRAID and when it worked I thought I would share it with unRAID community, so I did.

However, I have moved off from using unraid plugins now and I am kind of losing my motivation to keep up with this.

I can't really do much about corrupted database or Subsonic acting up because.... all this plugin does is just install Subsonic.

I am not a developer of Subsonic and I am not in any way involved in Subsonic development.. so that's another reason why I can't help you with some of your problems.

if someone else can take over this plugin like I once did before, that would be great.. but otherwise, i probably won't be updating this plugin anymore

    sorry guys

  9. For those who love Red 3TB drives, here is a good deal!

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3580092&CatId=139

Now, it's $110 After Rebate.. but TigerDirect is having V.me deal $20 off $100 (http://www.tigerdirect.com/sectors/campaigns/v_me/) which makes this $90 after rebate.

or, if you have an amex card, log in to amex site and activate $30 back when spending $100 at TigerDirect deal to get $30 back which makes it $80 AR for this!

  10. I have a similar set up as PCRx as well.

Just in case people are thinking of a similar setup, here is a screen shot of my network setup in esxi.

    OiRb0RT.png

My mb doesnt have the capability to do IPMI...

Because I am using most of my PCI and PCIe slot, I only had one PCIe x1 available.. so i got this intel NIC : http://amzn.com/B001CY0P7G

vminc2 is some internal NIC in the mb. some realtek i believe. The physical ethernet port is  connected to a gigabit switch, which is connected to all my local devices.

vmnic0 is the intel NIC i bought. this is directly connected to the cable modem, for WAN connection.

  11. Does the 5.1 management client work with 5.5?

    Sent from my mobile

    There is 5.5 management client.

When you run 5.1 client with 5.5 server, it tells you to update it. This updates the client only obviously.

Not sure if there is a way to avoid this. but then not sure why you would avoid it

When people say they can't change VM Settings via vsphere client or 5.5 doesn't support vsphere client, it really means that it doesn't support VM Version 10.

You can edit VM settings all you want using esxi 5.5 server and the client as long as VM Version is 8 or below. Even creating a new VM defaults to VM Version 8.

Unless you go through each VM to upgrade them to Version 10, you can use 5.5 just like you did for 5.1

  12. if you dont upgrade your VM's to Version 10 and just upgrade esxi to 5.5, it works fine.

you can still manage your VM's through vsphere client, it's just that esxi 5.5 feature may not be available for those using vsphere.

I recently upgraded to esxi 5.5 and have been using vsphere fine. I just wanted to make that clear.

cause 'vSphere is no longer supported' kinda sounds like you can't use vsphere for esxi 5.5 at all, which is not true.

    Edit:

I think what we as in unraid user need to worry about is more of this Devices deprecated and unsupported in ESXi 5.5 (2056935) (http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2056935) rather than vsphere client.

Some RAID and SATA controllers that people use on this site is on this list and this may affect some unraid users.

  13. Hmm..

Just to update what I found out. It only seems to cause a problem with Linux VM's & Sli 3132 controller.

Windows VM detects the sata card without any problems but in Linux VM's (Linux Mint), I see bunch of these lines on the VM:

"sata_sil24: IRQ status == 0xffffffff, PCI fault or device removal?"

Then the PSOD on ESXi machine:

    OirZghS.jpg?1

It is throwing something about rtl8168 (My LAN controller), but this only happens when the sata card was added to the VM

so if you have sil 3132 controller with esxi, you may want to be careful or maybe it's just my card that's going crazy

  14. I have one problem with esxi 5.5

I am using a sata controller card from monoprice: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&p_id=2530&seq=1&format=2

I have a test vm set up for unraid..

in esxi 5.1, i had this card hw passthrough to the test vm and unraid vm was able to see the hdd connected to this card.

After the update, this test unraid vm doesn't see hdd's connected to the card anymore.

I added the card to a windows 7 vm and it was reading the hdd fine. so that tells me that hw passthrough and the controller itself is working correct..

I looked at the syslog, and around line 1012, there's a message saying 'Sep 25 04:49:49 ClearVM kernel: ata1: controller in dubious state, performing PORT_RST'

What does it mean by 'dubious state'?

Does anyone that pass through this card have similar problems?

I have another unraid machine with two M1015's and they're working without any problem..

Found this KB article... and 1095:3132 SiI 3132 [sATALink/SATARaid] Serial ATA Controller is in 'Devices deprecated and unsupported' list.. I wonder if that's why.. hmm..
