  1. fyi, the board does not support vt-d either. I don't see it on the bios menu or the manual. It still is a good basic testing machine so far
  2. thanks for the reply. is it the CPU or MOBO that doesn't support vt-d? CPU doesn't support vt-d for sure. and i guess i should ask MSI about this i did want to test out the pass-through just to see if i can set up headless htpc, but this will do for now
  3. so.. no replies eh. i bought it anyway. will let you know how it turns out
  4. Hi Guys, I want to test out KVM functionality and some others in unraid 6 so I was thinking about building a cheap machine to do so. I already have 4 GB of ram, PSU (CX430), some extra hdds, and a case (Source 210). so all i need is a mobo + cpu combo Luckily, I have a Microcenter around and they have this new Mobo + CPU combo on sale That's MSI Z97 PC Mate + G3258 for $99. there's possibilities of $10 rebate, but $100 is not too bad to spend on a test machine. What do you guys think? Would this be okay to test VM functionality of the new unraid 6?
  5. which motherboard you have? the motherboard has to support IOMMU as well and you need to turn it on in the bios to pass through hardware as far as i know
  6. is the parity checking / building parity running? That will slow down the write speed a lot
  7. yeaaaa love MC! got FX-8320 + cheap MOBO for $100 aww yeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  8. For those who love Red 3TB drives, here is a good deal! http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3580092&CatId=139 Now, it's $110 After Rebate.. but TigerDirect is having V.me deal $20 off $100 (http://www.tigerdirect.com/sectors/campaigns/v_me/) which makes this $90 after rebate. or, if you have an amex card, log in to amex site and activate $30 back when spending $100 at TigerDirect deal to get $30 back which makes it $80 AR for this!
  9. The installed version of open-vm-tools was built for kernel: 3.9.6p but version: 3.9.11p is running.... guess we need a new one now for 5.0.1
  10. Some people, like me, prefer getting Red 3TB drives over any other drives. Today only, newegg has coupon for 10% off your purchase 'SAVETENOCT18Q' Using this, Red 3TB comes out to $121.49. One of the lowest i've seen without rebate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236344
  11. Now.. do we need a new vmware tool for esxi 5.5?
  12. It actually was $113.99 this morning.. I think they forgot to change the original price and just added the coupon.
  13. Doing it through SMB is fine I believe. I did it through SMB to upgrade from rc16c
  14. I am guessing we need a new VMWare tools since we have the 5.0 stable, right?

  17. this is because not everyone have a cache drive set up. also the free license doesnt let you use a cache drive. a lot of plugin developers want the "out of the box" working plug in. what i mean by that is developers want the user to be able to go up and running without doing much settings. making /mnt/cache/ by default will cause some error if the user doesn't have a cache drive and that will require a user to do an extra step for the user to go through. by putting it under /usr/local/, there is a disadvantage that it is not persistent (does not survive after reboot), but it's better than using /boot/ (actual flash drive) in a way that it doesn't reduce the life time of the flash boot drive. flash drives were never meant for a lot of read/writes, so if there are lots of read/write, it reduces the life time of the flash drive. also,
  18. Why do you have to 'wait for it'? As far as I am aware you can carry on using OpenELEC/xbmc while a library update is running. Well you have to 'wait for it' to get the new episode / movie to show on the library
