  1. Johnnie, Random crashes mostly but they seem to happen more frequently when running a parity check. In the past, i saw some drive issues and i replaced a problem drive hoping it would help and it did but i still get the crashes. I have tried 4 different controllers including two different recommended LSI controllers. In addition, my friend and I bought the same mb, chip, memory and LSI controllers and has the same issues. the SAS2LP controller you refer to, i had in my old machine that ran for 9 years before it started having issues, hence the upgrade. I've tested the memory before and came up clean. I haven't tested the HDD specifically but I would've expected some warning from unRaid if the drives were going bad. It's frustrating because i've tried everything short of changing the chip which is expensive and possibly replacing the memory.
  2. Well, after a long road of hard drive repairs and what not, my array is back but it still crashes and I don't know why. I've attached my diagnostics, if any one can look and see what might be the issue. Thanks. tower-diagnostics-20200826-1632.zip
  3. Well, it was a long windy road but I finally got my array back online. Had to send 10 (not all 10 were part of the array) drives for repair and got back 7 that worked and had to send one more back. I didn't have to recover all of the drives but they did have to replace the PMB's on all of them. I did have to have to have them recover one drive and that hurt the pocketbook. Happy to say the array is up and working with all my data. Thanks to these guys for helping me out, they were very easy to work with. I haven't used any others but I highly recommend them. https://outsourcedatarecovery.com/
  4. Long story but I had an unraid server with 14 drives that was working. I wanted to switch to a new case. When I switched it to the new case, only 4 drives were showing up in unraid. After much troubleshooting, I put everything back in the old case and of course, only 4 drives showed up. The main difference between the two cases was that the old case had Icy Dock HDD trays, which had been working fine. The new case had "backplanes" so both the power and data connections were different. Based on research here and elsewhere, I believe 10 of my drives have damaged PCB boards (best case scenario, hopefully). They don't spin at all even when hooked up just to power. Anyone have any ideas? Has anyone replaced the PCB's on their drives or have used a service to do that. Any ideas on costs and reliability, would be helpful. Ugh!!!!
  5. I'm having a hell of a time finding the right bios and firmware update. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
  6. Thanks Benson. I will do that and post the results.
  7. The xfs_repair was running and the system seemed to crash so i don't know what happened with it. Had to reboot and the drive still shows as unmountable.
  8. I am at my wits end. I have had an unRaid server for almost 10 years. I recently started having crashes with my system that had 10 year old hardware. When it crashes, it is not responsive in anyway, no video, no keyboard response, nothing. I have to cold shutdown and reboot to get back into it. First thing I did was upgrade unRaid to the lastest, didn't have any issues with that. But then it still was crashing. I decided it was a good time to upgrade the hardware. My friend and I purchased two sets of mobo, processor, memory and controllers from the same vendor. He installed his and it worked fine. I installed mine and it's still been crashing, especially when doing a parity sync. I've tried everything, mem tests, new PSU, new controllers, it would still crash when running the parity sync/rebuild. The only thing that is not different is the case and the actual drives. I replaced the mobo with a new identical one and that seemed to help. I was able to start the partiy sync and it ran for over 24 hours and then it crashed. I have a feeling something is going on with a drive but i can't seem to fix it. Every time I run a parity sync, it crashes. Currently it shows one drive as unmountable and the parity drive as emulated. I can't get through a full parity sync/rebuild. I'm attempting an xfs_repair on the problem drive after reading numerous posts to try to figure out the issue. That's been running for a while now, it's a 10tb drive. I've attached my diagnostics. If anyone has any thoughts, i could use the help, this has become very frustrating. tower-diagnostics-20200702-1121.zip
  9. Joe L, Thanks so much. Everything "seems" to be working. I am going to run the parity check anyway. There are about 12TB on this thing so who knows what may have gotten lost, it'll be hard to tell with all that data. I'll search the forums to figure out a way to potentially catalog the files on each drive individually so I at least have some record so that I can potentially try to reget files that may be stored on local drives if I have a drive fail completely. This makes me very nervous but thank you for your advice. I REALLY appreciate it!!!!
  10. I was able to do all of those on sdb1 as well. I disabled as many plug-ins as I could think of using unmenu's tools and rebooted. Attached is the syslog. Thanks for all the help so far. syslog-2013-02-20.txt
  11. I performed the three steps and they successfully completed without error.
  12. Joe L, I used whatever is the default partion settings used in Unraid. I have run the test and included the results in the attached zip file. Thanks. fdisk_sda.zip
  13. Joe L, I took your advice. First I unplugged the red balled drive, Disk 10, and booted the server. It shows Drive 10 as "not installed" and Disk 11 as unformatted. The array starts Then I unplugged Disk 11 and connected the red ball drive and it shows as blue now and Disk 11 shows as missing and the array won't start... When I plug them both in, now it shows the drive that was shown as red balled as blue now, with a message that says "Disabled disk replaced.". I cannot tell what Disk 11 is doing because the array won't start. I don't want to start the array because it says it is going to start the rebuild process and I don't know what is going to happen with Disk 11. I have posted the lastest syslog file here. Thanks syslog-2013-02-19.txt
  14. Joe L, Thanks, I will give this a try and let you know shortly.
  15. Can anyone help? Here are the details. I have a unraid 4.7 server with 12 hard disks in it. One day, i noticed i wasn't able to access some content on it so I pulled up the manager I noticed that Drive 10 had red balled and Drive 11 was showing as unformatted. I don't know what happened as it was working and then suddenly stopped. Both drives are connected to a separate controller then the other drives in the array. Of course I went through the normal troubleshooting with checking the cables, etc. I switched the controller with a brand new one and had the same result. I have attached the syslog file. Can't run the smart reports. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! syslog-2013-02-18.zip
