  1. I'm working on improving my home setup. I have several options that all have their own ups and downs. I want to have a main pc (or VM) to run Windows for some gaming and work related stuff. Then I also want to be able to run Linux and Mac (vm vs dualboot), for IT work related stuff. On this machine I have a few USB sound devices (DAC, mic input) which would have to be relayed to the active VM. Then I also want to run a few server type things, nothing heavy, no serious decoding, but I want to have the option to expand on this part if needed. Server requirements include Home Assistant, NextCloud, NAS/Backup system, unifi controller and adblocking (adguard/pihole). Unraid sounds like a good option for combining all my needs. Which would mean less extra hardware to buy and hopefully a decent energy draw. However it seems my current motherboard (asus B450 Strix) has some restrictions that make Unraid less than perfect. The second m2 shares lanes with the videocard, so adding an extra m2 would drop my videocard (5700XT) to x8. Also the mapping of hardware seems difficult, losing several ports for the VM's since I don't wanna pass on the Unraid USB. Current setup: asus B450 strix, 3700X, 16gb vengeance ddr4 with nvme 1tb boot drive. Several HDD (8tb) and SSD lying around to get going. Options to get what I want: 1. Run Unraid on main pc without changes. Lowers the videocard and passing through gpu failed 2 months ago. Hoping that with the changes showing up of late my issues can be resolved. 2. Run Unraid on main pc with a new motherboard. Not sure which would be best, but I guess you people have quite some input on a choice that would make things work smooth with 2* m2 (or even 3 for mirror cache m2?) and more easily separating groups for passthrough. 3. Run main pc as is and run a dedicated server on the side. Probably no need to go Unraid in this setup, since the 'server' would not need to run Windows, Linux (desktop). Not sure if I would then bother with adding mac, although I like them for everyday stuff. What kind of advice would you people have for me. Is it worth upgrading, would a dedicated server have more benefits? Thanks for any input!
