  1. I recently upgraded my unraid service to the above from an old dual xeon rack mount server to that used over 200W at idle, to a new PC that uses less than 60w at idle (including 16TB array of 4x 2.5" HDs, and a 3.5" parity drive). Getting the NAS and Docker components working was as easy as moving the drives and the USB boot drive over to the new PC. However getting the VMs to work with GPU passthrough has been a challenge. TLDR - I got my Win10VM with a RX580 gpu pass-thru to work only with a Q35, Seabios VM. I tried: - Both having the Ryzen B550+ bios set to legacy and UEFI boot- But I found that it only worked in UEFI mode, with the unraid boot disk set to prefer UEFI. - Every combination of a Q35 or i440 VM - Only Q35 has worked for me - Every combination of OVMF vs Seabios. - Only Seabios has worked for me - I added the AMD vendor reset plugin (not sure if that helped or not) - Having either the RX580 or the igpu as the primary graphics adapter - I have the igpu as the primary graphics. and the RX580 is secondary. It appeared nothing was working. The Win10 VM would work over VNC, but the moment I passthru'd the GPU, it was blank screen. In the end - the Q35 + Seabios VM sprang into life. I'd left it running for over 5 minutes - and all of a sudden I got the Win10 login screen. I think it was booting and installing the RX580 drivers in the background. I've repeated the install of the Win10vm and the passthrough a few times. the way I now do it is: - Install the Win 10vm using VNC - Install the virtio drivers. - Install a remote desktop app that works even before you've logged in (I use spashtop) - Then passthru the gpu (no need to supply a vbios file) - just passthrough the graphics and the associated audio. - Boot it up - and expect a blank screen for at least 5-10 minutes. - Then, when you're about to give up, it springs into life. - I then install the official AMD radeon drivers. It's vital to have something like splashtop, as when the installer removes the old drivers, you have to reboot (and while you are doing this the screen blank) - so the only way to compelte the install is via splastop. I still get a bunch of errors in the VM log, but the performance is good, and I've had it running for several days - including doing a full windows update to get everything up to date. I would like to see if I can get the Ryzen igpu passed through a VM. I've read it is possible but very fiddly. I really wrote this in case anyone with a 5700G, B550plus, RX580 on Unraid 6.11 was struggling with getting a Win10 with gpu passthru working. After lots of trial and error I got it to work!
