  1. Indeed I have still a Corsair PSU lying around which I wanted to sell on eBay (but no one wanted it to buy). And with that CX-500 PSU and the old Sempron the system is starting just like normal and the parity check is running right now. So, I will buy a new CPU and install this PSU permanently. I keep my fingers crossed that this will be sufficient for the next time @Frank1940 I did already check all capacitors on the MB, but they all look fine. So, I beside I have to buy a CPU am really happy that no drive was lost and all data seems to be available! Thank you for the help!
  2. So, I spend some time today in the basement. I followed the advice and disconnected all hard drives, network adapter and everything. I also took out the RAM. Then I started the computer and I heard three equally long beeps. Then a pause and then again three beeps. Looking at the manual this is the translation for missing RAM. So far so good. So I installed the RAM again and started again. And hell yeah, the thumb drive was blinking and there was boot screen on the picture. I plugged in all hard drives again and tried a new boot sequence. Unfortunately this was a one timer. No picture on the screen and no blinking usb drive. I exchanged the BIOS battery for another one (which I still had at home) and I also exchanged the Athlon for an old Sempron 64 which I was using before. I started the computer and it was booting again. Starting screen appears and is fine. This time I started the computer several times (think six or seven times). Each time it started properly. Then I hooked up all seven hard drives and then boot sequence failed again. No boot screen, and usb-drive not blinking. So am confused again. So either RAM or power supply, right?
  3. Hello, I am normally a quiet user - which means I have unraid set up and running and everything is working without a flaw. However now out of a sudden the unraid system will not start anymore. The usb drive will not even light anymore during booting process (which it normally does) and the screen I attached does not even show the boot screen of the ASROCK board anymore. The thumb drive is recognised on my normal PC and I can access the files on it. (Just upgraded to 6.5.3). The hard drives will spin up, but nothing else seems to be working. As my only guess is that the motherboard died and I have to replace it. Before I do that I want to be sure that I did everything necessary / possible and not waste money while not needed. I appreciate every help and hint I can get. My system is still running on an Asrock 780 mainboard with AMD Athlon which I bought more than eight years ago. And as unraid for me is doing NAS services and some dockers (no big VMs or something), I would like to keep it to a minimum.
  4. Hi, thanks for the positive feedback. Just to be sure I have another question. There are two versions of the 2720SGL out there. One is named Rocket, which offers 8 additional SATA ports. The other one is called RocketRaid and offeres 8 additional SATA ports and RAID functionalities. As we do not need the raid stuff for unraid I assume I could go with the normal Rocket version, right?
  5. Hi, okay, noted. Then I would highly appreciate if you could help me to find an actual one, please? The list in the Wiki is not helpful to me. I am looking for a card offering 4 sata III 6gb/s. Price is should not exceed 200€. And I do not want to flash anything (because I do not know how to do that). So I would like something working out of the box. My rig is running at 6.1.6. All I can find is either oop or 400€, which exceeds my budget. EDIT: Just found the Highpoint Rocket 2720SGL. What about that? Forum posts say that this is plug-n-play and I could not find anything negative on the forum.
  6. I am looking for a SATA extension card and came across the High Point Rocket 640L. Actually I was looking for the normal 640 model but this is not available anymore. The 640L however is available for quite a decent price. As it is not in the list I am not sure if this is nowadays working with unraid 6.x or if I still should avoid that.
  7. Hi, I followed these steps and it worked perfectly. 0. Make screnshot for the right order of discs 1. Select Utils-New Config. 2. Assign original data disks and new parity drive. 3. Start array and rebuild parity. 4. Run a parity check. 5. Assign new 3T disk4 and rebuild disk4. 6. Run a parity check. Thank you for your help!
  8. Okay, so far so good. I am now at step 3. Parity sync is running. Again with about 26MB/s - and I am pretty sure the last TB will be calculated with 99MB/s. Any idea why this is the case? Is the bottleneck here the slowest drive in the array? What might be the root cause here?
  9. Dgaschk, could you please post a little more detailed information on this as I consider myself (although I have been using my unraid rig already for four years now) as a rookie.
  10. DaleWilliams, I do not have another slot for data drive available as I own the plus key only. I did not preclear the old parity drive. I just added. unraid asked me to format it. I pressed "yes", it started for a second and then it was done, but I could not mount it as parity was not valid. Even it was still valid there have been changes (e.g. the 4TB parity drive is now the leading one).
  11. Hello, I have at the moment an awkward issue with my unraid machine which is otherwise pretty stable. So normally I do not need to do anything - it is running flawlessly. But now it is driving me mad. So, the situation is the following. I am running 5.0 version of unraid (I think 5.0.3.) - plus version. (BTW: Changes are always about parity and Disk 4) I had installed the following array of disk Parity: WD 3TB Disk 1: WD 2TB Disk 2: WD 2TB Disk 3: WD 2TB Disk 4: Samsung 1,5 TB Disk 5: Seagate 2 TB No cache drive installed. Then I bought a WD 4 TB drive. I exchanged the parity drive as this one always needs to be the biggest one. I let unraid calculate the parity and afterwards I made a parity check resulting in 0 errors. What I noticed during the parity calculation and parity check is, that the first 2,5 TB are around 27MB/s and then it runs like hell with around 95MB/s. I do not have any clue why this is the case. Then I had an array like this: Parity: WD 4TB Disk 1: WD 2TB Disk 2: WD 2TB Disk 3: WD 2TB Disk 4: Samsung 1,5 TB Disk 5: Seagate 2 TB I then wanted to exchange the smallest one (Samsung 1,5TB) with the WD 3 TB. So I shut down the server and exchanged the disk. So it was then like this: Parity: WD 4TB Disk 1: WD 2TB Disk 2: WD 2TB Disk 3: WD 2TB Disk 4: WD 3TB Disk 5: Seagate 2 TB I then started again unraid and what I did not notice at first (because I had already made a parity check) was the blue ball beside the parity drive. So parity drive was recognised as new one and I had a new drive in the array. Result was that drive 4 could not be calculated. I still have the Samsung 1,5TB drive. So I was thinking, shuting down the server, replacing the new WD 3TB drive with the old Samsung 1,5TB and a new calculation of parity would solve the issue. Unfortunately I always get a message that the new drive (Samsung 1,5TB) is smaller then the old one (WD 3TB) and that this is not allowed. So I ended up with an array where I do not have a valid parity and one drive is missing. Not good. What I could do is save all data on the 1,5 TB Samsung drive somewhere else and put it back on the 3TB WD drive. But I wanted to avoid this. Can I force unraid to accept the smaller 1,5TB somehow? Or is there another easy solution for that?
  12. Yesterday, I updated to V5 beta14 and somehow my sleep command "echo 3 >/proc/acpi/sleep" does not work anymore. I checked already the Wiki, but there is nothing mentioned. Is it really different between V4.7 and V5.0 beta14 due to different LINUX kernels or something?
  13. Okay, if every WOL application sends the same magic packet then it does not matter. But then I have the issue that Waking up the server works only the first time after the server got booted. Second wake up does not work. Do you think it will be better with version 5 (when it is final). Right now I am using 4.7 @PCRx Will try your MTL procedure later at home (today my wife is going out with friends).
  14. In the meantime I tested the two apps on my iphone. The Telnet app to send the server to sleep works perfectly. However with NetAwake I have an issue. It only works once to wake up unraid box. Meaning I start the server manually (power button on) then I send it to sleep then I use NetAwake and it works. Next time I send the server to sleep using telnet macro, server goes to sleep. But WOL does not work anymore. I do not know why.... I also tested another WOL app, but no success. In BIOS I only had the choice for "Suspend to RAM" or Disable, nothing like S1 or S3 state and a feature named Ring-in to power on. I assume that this is WOL functionality. My mainboard is a Asrock A780GM-LE by the way. If I type ethtool eth0 the entry wake-on states "g" and "Supports Wake-on" states pumbg. Does anybody know how to fix that?
  15. I suppose that nobody asked that before. Okay, then I will take care about step one now (as soon as my new iphone arrives here)..... I already googled for finding a possible solution of point 2.), but so far no luck. If anybody knows how to achieve that I will really appreciate a link or instructions what I need to do..... Cheers!
  16. Hello, my unraid server has been up and running now for a long time now and I am very confident. It exactly does what I want. Clean and easy. I used the search function for topic 2.) and also googled but did not find proper solutions. Now comes the part to tune a little bit. The unraid box is in the basement. All the time I need to go to the basement to start unraid (by pushing the power button) and later to shut it down via the web-gui. What I want to do is the following: 1.) Start the unraid box using my iphone (not done any researches about that yet). 2.) and right now important: Automatic powerdown of unraid after a specified time of inactivity. (E.g. I watched a movie and there has been no read or write access anymore to the server for 40 minutes, then power down). Is that possible with V4.7 (stable) or is it possible with upcoming V5 Only solution I found with the forum search is the scheduled shutdown at e.g. 11:00 pm. But if I understood correctly is that this will force a shutdown even if I am watching a movie from the server. Is that even possible?
  17. Okay, folders created. I changed the path in the .rtorrent.rc file to /mnt/disk2/torrents/ and then subfolders downloading downloading/rtorrent.session auto complete But the untorrent log-file tells me (exactly as the web-gui) that rtorrent is not running. boot/custom/rtorrent/ and left it unchanged. Found existing php.ini in /boot/custom/php/ and left it unchanged. Found existing mod_php.conf in /boot/custom/php/ and left it unchanged. Found existing lighttpd.conf in /boot/custom/lighttpd/ and left it unchanged. Found existing lighttpd.conf.include in /boot/custom/lighttpd/ and left it unchanged. Found existing rc.local_shutdown in /boot/config/ and left it unchanged. untorrent services: rtorrent ---- NOT started! lighttpd 3985 root 4u IPv4 9022 TCP *:89 (LISTEN) lighttpd 3985 root 5u IPv4 9023 TCP *:8089 (LISTEN) Mon Feb 1 04:33:30 GMT+8 2010 ##### Finished the untorrent 2.8.5 installation... ##### But I do not know how to fix that now....... I appreciate any help in this matter....it drives me crazy....
  18. Normally, No. Is your disk array started? Do you have disk1 in your array? Is there any free space on it? What torrent directories do you have defined in your .rtorrent.rc file? (It is located in the /custom/rtorrent/ directory on your flash key) There should be a file called untorrent.log in the same directory. Can you post it here? What happens if you just drop a torrent file in your 'auto' directory? Yes, the array is on-line. I have set the path to disc 2 of my array as disc one has only 250 GB left. (On Disc 2 there is more than 1 TB free). I will post the directory tree tonight. One question in advance: Do I need to create the folders on my own or does rtorrent do that automatically?
  19. Hello, okay now I put the installation command in my go script and that works like a charme.... For testing purpose I stored a torrent file on my disk 2 in a directory. I opened it from a directory of my unraid server. But the torrent always stays in status paused. I can stop it. After I press "start" it gets automatically in status paused again. Tried also different torrent files from different trackers - but I was not successfull..... Is there something I have to think about additionally?
  20. I have got one question. I installed the rutorrent package (including all plugins => first package to download) a while ago. Then I could enter the web frontend using //tower:8089. That was about a week ago. Yesterday I tried to enter //tower:8089 but with no luck. => Do I have to install the package everytime the server boots? I also tried to put this command line in my go script, but with no success after re-boot. until `cat /proc/mdcmd | grep -q -a "STARTED"` ; do sleep .5 ; done Shall I put the installcommand in the go script instead? Hope someone can enlighten me....
