CPU AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor - $309.99 Motherboard ASRock X470D4U Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard - $229.99 Memory Crucial 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL22 non-ECC Memory (part #: CT16G4DFD832A) - $163.50 Storage (Cache) Samsung 860 Evo 500 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive - $69.99 Storage (Parity) Western Digital Red 4 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive - $94.99 Storage Western Digital Red 4 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive - $94.99 Power Supply EVGA SuperNOVA GA 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply - $79.98 Operating System Unraid Basic - $59.00 Total so far: $1102.42 Intended use for the build (Unraid server): Plex (with transcoding) [max 10 users at once, max 5 (of the 10) transcoding, mostly 1080p, mostly remote streaming) Nextcloud Minecraft server (max 10 users at once, not heavily modded but it would be nice to be able to explore it) Pi-hole Ampache deemix UniFi Controller Software 2-3 VMs *Ability to add on to this if desired later on* Questions I was considering either the X470D4U, X470D4U2-2T, X570D4U, or X570D4U-2L2T. The latter 2 are X570, and the 2T and 2L2T have 10GbE. Thinking I don't need 10GbE... Will X470 still be good for the years to come? Is it worth shelling out the extra $250 for X570? Will non-ECC ram be the end of the world? The motherboard supports it, but it seems a little too expensive. If you see above, you will see my Plex requirements which will most definitely require transcoding from a video card. However, I do NOT plan on buying a GPU right now, so basically I want the build (including case) to all be compatible and capable when I am ready to add in the GPU (and additional storage mentioned below). Looking for a case to fit this build as well as fit a nice GPU and 3 more hard drives that I will get at a later date (for a total of 6 - the max allowed for the basic Unraid license) I get the following warning in PCPartPicker: "Some AMD X470 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Matisse CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions." Something to worry about? Are 5400 RPM drives ok? Compared to +$45 each for 7200 RPM (WD Red Pro)? Is 650W PSU ok? Is this a good build (+ case, and soon to be added GPU and additional storage) given the intended use?
