  1. I'm sorry if this is posted somewhere but I didn't see it and I have spent a lot of time today already trying to fix this. I have version 5.0-rc8a installed as a virtual server. I just purchased a license key yesterday and haven't been able to add a new drive to my existing share named "media". I can create new shares with the 2 new drives but can't add a drive to my existing "media" share. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with my split level being 0. I have tried rebooting the server, copying files to the share to see if they would go to the new drive (I'm down to less than 5GB), and several other minor items. The following is my setup. I have unmenu installed My share settings are Name: media Comments: Allocation method: High Water Min. free space: 0 Split level: 0 Included disk(s): disk1,disk2,disk3 Excluded disk(s): Share empty? No NFS & SMB = Yes & Public parity - not installed (yes I know but I'm waiting for a new 3T drive to come in) disk1 2t seagate (old drive) disk2 2t seagate (old drive) disk3 2t seagate (new drive) disk4 2t WD (new drive) (from /bin/mount) proc on /proc type proc (rw) sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw) /dev/sde1 on /boot type vfat (rw,noatime,nodiratime,umask=0,shortname=mixed) /dev/md1 on /mnt/disk1 type reiserfs (rw,noatime,nodiratime,user_xattr,acl) /dev/md2 on /mnt/disk2 type reiserfs (rw,noatime,nodiratime,user_xattr,acl) /dev/md4 on /mnt/disk4 type reiserfs (rw,noatime,nodiratime,user_xattr,acl) nfsd on /proc/fs/nfs type nfsd (rw) /dev/md3 on /mnt/disk3 type reiserfs (rw,noatime, nodiratime) shfs on /mnt/user type fuse.shfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,noatime,allow_other,default_permissions) other config files are attached unRaid_settings.txt
  2. I'm not sure if this is the solution or not but it seems to be working for me now. I removed all shares, deleted all folders, stopped then restarted the array, created my folders /disk1/media/Movies & /disk2/media/Television, then recreated the share. I'm only assuming that since I created the share before creating the folders it didn't read the folders therefore never showed them correctly.
  3. @dgaschk, I created them by going to the disk1 and disk2 shares on my network. How should I have created them?
  4. Are you sure about about share level 0? In the example on the wiki http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Un-Official_UnRAID_Manual#Split_Level_0 they have share level 0 spanning over multiple disks depending on the directory structure. If I use share level 1 and add a "disk3" to help extend my movies collection later would it copy movies to this disk keeping them in the same folder and fill it up using the allocation method assigned to this share? if so what is the difference between share 1 and 0?
  5. I'm running 5.0-rca8 and just finished pre-clearing my drives. I have three 2TB drives and have mounted two of them (excluding the parity) to prepare myself for copying my files over. When I go to create a share through the web interface I used these settings, . After I created this share I created a directory structure on disk1 of media/Movies and /media/Television on disk2. When I browse my media directory I thought I was gong to see a Movies & Television folder but I only see my Movies folder. I do not want to start moving my media until I know that this has been set up correctly. Can someone please tell me what I am missing. If it matters I am running this as a virtual machine on ESXI.
  6. Thanks for the advice, so if I use up 8 drives with unRAID will I be able to have the OS installed on my SSD? Sorry for all of the beginner questions but this is my first crack with ESXi. My SSD is currently connected to a sata port on my MB and I'd like to keep it there if possible.
  7. OK, so i cheated here so don't murder me over it as I'm still posting to this thread. I returned my FX8120 and Sabertooth 99FX R2 last night for an i5 3470 and an ASRock Extreme 6. The prices ended up being within a few dollars ($99/$189=$288 vs $149/$144=293) so I chose Intel as others including OrangePeel have mentioned if the prices were the same they would go this route. I'm getting on Ebay tonight to buy the IBM M1015 to hopefully allow me to finish my system as I have been able to get ESXi 5.1 installed (with on board ethernet support by making a few tweaks)and have been able to start up a few VM's just to play around. My main questions from here are how many drives does one M1015 support. My initial research tells me that it supports 8 drives. Is this correct? I only see two ports on the card so I'm guessing that maybe I can get two cables with 4 breakouts each? If so where do I find these cables? Lastly, is it going to be possible to run unRAID off of my SSD if it's not connected to the M1015? I'd like to use as many of my drives as possible for storage without having to buy another card or adapter. I really appreciate all the advice you guys have given me and I just hope that because I went Intel you won't hold a grudge.
  8. Thanks for the reply Brandon, looks like I will be sleeping a little less tonight
  9. mmalat, Can you tell me for sure if the a M1015 card is required? I have purchased but not opened a Sabertooth 990FX R2, 16GB of memory & a FX 8120 hoping to be able to use the 8 SATA ports on the motherboard instead of the M1015. According to my research it will run the latest ESXi but am wondering it I will be able to run unRAID.
  10. Am I correct that I have to have the IBM card for virtualization to work? Do the SATA ports on the motherboard not work for this? I'd like to have about 10 drives on my unRAID server build virtualized, but I can get by with only having 4 or 5 right now. If I have to add an IBM card for every two hard drives wouldn't that eat away at my savings of using AMD hardware?
  11. I'd like to start off by saying I have wanted an unRAID server for the past few years. I was really close to pulling the trigger right before HD prices went through the roof then decided I should wait. Now that they are more reasonable I am ready to go. I have already purchased a Cooler Master HAF 912 case and a Corsair CX500 power supply that should arrive early next week. I have 3 Seagate 7200 2TB drives, 1 WD Green 2TB, 1 Hitachi 7200 2TB, 1 Seagate 7200 1TB, and 4 other drives ranging from 500 to 750GB for a total of 10 drives. My next step will be to select a MB, processor, and memory. I plan on using the server for SABnzbd, Couchpotato, Sick Beard, Headphones (maybe), and the latest version of XBMC Froyo. I plan on having all of my clients running off of Raspberry Pi's and an aTV2. One of the features that I believe (please tell me if I'm wrong) this new version of XBMC has is that it is going away from a mySQL database for syncing your library. In XBMC Froyo you will have a main XBMC installation where all of your syncing is managed and you will point your other installations to it. Will I be able to install XBMC to my unRAID server? If not should I virtualize unRAID and have Ubuntu running along side unRAID on the same machine? So I guess the purpose of this thread is to ask what kind of MB, processor, memory will I need. I'm assuming that if I am going to virtualize I will need more hardware than if I'm not. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.
  12. OK, I just ordered some hardware today to build my first unRAID server. I'd like to know if I will be able to install XBMC on my unRaid server. It's my understanding (which I could always be wrong) that with the newest version of XBMC (Frodo currently in beta) you can point any of your other XBMC extenders to a central installation to sync your media vs the setting up a mySQL database mentioned earlier in this thread. Has anyone tried this? Also if possible I'd like to be able to use the HDMI out on my new system to play media on my television if possible.
