  1. Hi all, To go with bubbaQ's low power initiative, I'd like to start a thread on small servers, both in size and in terms of number of drives. Such servers would fit many peoples needs. I am thinking 4-8 drives. The ambition is to create a low power server that will on 24/7, but maybe only used 10-25 hours a week. - One idea could be a 3 bay 5 drive cage, carrying 750 GB och 1 TB drives. - On the other hand, if access is of main concern, maybe more drives at smaller size, like 500 GB, since only one drive is spinning most of the time when the server is used. What cases/chassis do you have in mind for such a project? B.R. /Fredrik
  2. Following this discussion with great interest. I think the extra HD for swap is nice, especially since the flash will be worn out quickly if it is extensively used for writing. This will also speak against using a secondary flash for swap. In any case, if anyone really wants the secondary flash for swap option, it can be mounted as an IDE drive using the CF to IDE connection. I am particularly keen on using the server for Slimserver, which then could drop logs and the data base on the swap, maybe also playlists. As a linux novice, do you guys think it the process to get there is passable for someone like me? B.R. /Fredrik
  3. Any news on the slimserver integration, Sonicos? I really would love that to come true ... While you are at it, any plans to integrate other streaming servers for other media than audio except Twonky, like Wizd or Oxyl-box? Really appreaciating that someone is working on these things ... Best regards, /Fredrik
  4. Hi, I agree, slimserver and unraid would make a great couple! Any progress on this to report? Also, slim server and unraid i probably a much better team than readynas and slimserver, which has seen some performance problems lately with the database look-ups (infrant is using a much slower processor than unraid is typically running on) B.R. /Fredrik
  5. Hi, How much power does your system use in different situations (idle, writing, reading, ...)? B.R. /Fredrik
  6. Thanx, Thats the processor I am opting on. Do you use an attached processor fan or heatsink on the Celeron, or are you just cruizing without? B.R. /Fredrik
  7. Hi, I am considering unRAID with the motherboard ASUS P5PE-VM and initially three disks, but I will probably upgrade to additional disks later. What processors are you using? Any idea of a good performance vs power trade-off for this setting? Would a Celeron do just fine? Anyone with experience in using them fanlessly, i.e. no processor fan - only the fan in the chassi? B.R. /Fredrik
  8. Hi all, Anyone with a case/chassi recommendation or experience to share? Personally, I would like the server to be low power and quiet. How much peak power do you need in your settings? Best Regards, /Fredrik
