  1. Great, thanks for the quick response. Rebuilding now.
  2. I am showing a red "x" on one my drives (screenshot attached), but the disk appears to be fine (Disk 2 ... /dev/sdh). The smart report shows the drive is ok. I did try the drive in a different slot to make sure the slot the drive was in was not the problem. Is this drive bad? If not, how do I get the array to accept it again. I have included a screenshot of the array along with diagnostics and smart report for the affected drive. Thanks in advance. tower-diagnostics-20181210-1659.zip tower-smart-20181210-1652.zip
  3. All indications are that the drive is good. I have a smart report showing the drive is fine. I am going to put in in the array as the 2nd parity drive for the time being until I need to expand the array and make a decision down the road.
  4. I agree the story doesn't make sense. I am wondering why clearing data on the disk fixed anything. I have attached the diagnostics. The drive that had the issue was /dev/sdb (WDC_WD60EFRX-68MYMN1_WD-WX31D847KD09). tower-diagnostics-20180211-1055.zip
  5. So about 2 weeks ago I had a disk in UNRAID go completely missing (Red Ball) during a preclear of a separate disk (Western Digital 6TB Red) I tried several things: 1. Rebooted Several times 2. Examined the disk for physical defects. 3. Moved disk to a different slot (I tried 4 different slots on my 12 drive computer) After replacing the disk in the array, and completing a parity check (all data safe). I tried to mount the hard drive on a separate computer using a hdd to usb converter. The disk mounted perfectly and all data was there. I tried putting the disk back in UNRAID and again, it could not find it. I then wiped the disk with the linux "shred" command. (Sets all bits to zero). After that, UNRAID now recognizes the drive with no issues. I ran it with a pre-clear and it worked perfectly. Is this disk safe to use with UNRAID?
  6. I don't see anything unusual in the logs that would indicate a problem. Also, all 10 logs are identical. Is that you that connected? Jun 20 04:14:53 mediapc vsftpd[20605]: connect from 106.185.43.131 (106.185.43.131) Also based on the time stamp of your log, it was over 12 hours since something happened and the last item logged.
  7. Issue was a bad drive. It confused me because the symptom were consistent with a BIOS issue when I google searched. I ordered a replacement drive and no issues.
  8. I just installed a recently purchased 6tb wd red hard drive. During boot I receive this message several times: COMRESET failed (errno=-16) It eventually boots into unraid with one of the 2 cases: 1. Drive does not appear anywhere on the GUI 2. Sometimes appears in the area where it shows drives not in array. I believe it is a bad drive, but I just wanted to verify, because a google search leans towards a bios issues. This is what I have done so far: 1. Updated to the latest bios. (I have a Supermicro X10SL7-F uATX) 2. Tried to boot the array with the drive in 3 different slots (to verify not a cable issue.) I have 12 slots. 3. Rebooted the array with a know good drive in the same slot that I received this error and received no errors. The strange things that this is the 3rd drive of this exact type (I mean same size and model, something else may be different.) Request feedback if I can do anymore troubleshooting or if it is most probably a bad drive unit. Thanks!
  9. Are you keeping your encrypted drives outside the array and just using unraid for the interface? Just curious it is possible to have an differently formatted drive in the array.
  10. Everything is back to normal...problem was a bad PCI card.
  11. I am rebuilding with my backup drive now...after that is done (a couple of days....yes I have a very slow and old MOBO)...i can hook up the old drive and get the error to come up again if you like.,
  12. If you hover the mouse over it the dialog says "Device is disabled, Contents emulated"
  13. I am glad i wasnt just a bad searcher of the forums... I do have a replacement 4 TB drive on hand that I can swap out...but it would be nice to know the problem.
  14. OK, I replace the card and the array is good except for one drive has a red x (screenshot attached)...I tried a search of the forums but couldnt find any help...what does that mean?
  15. OK, thanks for all the help..I ordered the parts...I will let you know how it works out.
  16. Thanks Mr-Hexen...i see that now after I looked closer at the new egg website which seems to have a little more detail. Can you tell if this will connect to the board I am looking at? Also, should I be concerned it is only single rail?
  17. Thanks garycase,,,the only thing I am stuck on is getting a power supply that supports this motherboard -AND- has the old EIDE 4 pin power supplies for my drive cages....the new power supplies do not have the 4 pins...any ideas?
  18. How did you get the syslog? The http interface is working?
  19. Thanks RobJ....I know I can replace a PCI card but need more time to work on the upgrade....this way I can get the unraid server up and running while I nail down my parts list for the upgrade.
  20. Thanks, I am going to upgrade the motherboard (see my post in Unraid Compulsive Design). I guess I was looking for a cheap card to get the file server up until I figure out what i need to do for my upgrade. The current motherboard only has 2 PCI slots and they are both used by these SATA boards...
  21. Sorry for the long delay..i did reseat the card and it worked one time...but subsequent boot ups are not effective.. The array is showing several missing disks all tied to the same PCI card. (see attached).... Can someone recommend a replacement card that will work...I have attached a pic of the "bad card" Assuming the card is bad. Here is a link to the current card on amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009U6140?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 UPDATE: I thought I would try and switch the SATA Cards to different PCI slots just to see what happened and even after the switch the same PCI card is having issues. Its looking like that card needs replacement. I have included the link for the one installed but I am open to a different brand if anyone has a suggestion. UPDATE 2: This one looks like a good low cost alternative (can someone please verify it will work in the same slot as my current card): Semlos PCI Sata Internal Ports Raid Controller Card http://www.amazon.com/Semlos-Internal-Controller-4-ports-Sil3114/dp/B00L2X6DE6/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1439987729&sr=1-1&keywords=sata+pci+4+port Thanks..
  22. Here is my final build I am thinking of: MB Supermicro X10SL7-F uATX CPU (not sure which is better) Intel Xeon Processor E3-1231V3B 3.4 4 LGA 1150 --or-- Intel Xeon E3-1230V3 Haswell, 3.3GHz, 8MB L3 Cache Memory Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3/DDR3L-1600MT/s (PC3-12800) DR x8 ECC UDIMM Server Memory PSU Corsair HX750i High Performance Power Supply CPU Fan Cooler Master Hyper T4 CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes RR-T4-18PK-R1 Concerns: Not sure how to pick the right cpu. Will this psu work on this mobo and will it support the 3 drive quick install enclosures I have (they both use the old style EIDE power supply connector)? Is it a good idea to keep the hard drive enclosures (they are over 5 years old but work great)
  23. I want to use this power supply, I dont know much about power supplies but this one kind of looked like a good one: Corsair (HX750i) http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-HX750i-Performance-Supply-CP-9020072-NA/dp/B00M2UINC8/ref=sr_1_8?&ie=UTF8&qid=1439865939&sr=8-8&keywords=power+supply+multi+rail
  24. So I want to upgrade my old RB-1200 server that is having problems right now. This is a server that Tom used to sell on his website. It is a micro atx case with 12 drives. The old motherboard is a: ASUS P5LD2-VM micro atx (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131545&cm_re=asus_p5ld2-vm-_-13-131-545-_-Product) My plan is to upgrade to a: Motherboard: Supermicro X10SL7-F uATX DDR3 1600 LGA 1150 Motherboard http://www.amazon.com/Supermicro-X10SL7-F-uATX-DDR3-Motherboard/dp/B00D65EHQY Processor: Intel Xeon Processor
