I would be the last person to help in this respect. LOL! I have 2-3 archives. One in Artist/Album/Artist - Album - Trackno - Title.mp3 Another in CDROMNAME/Artist/Album/Trackno - Title.mp3 Another (for DJ'ing) Genre/Artist - Title.mp3 I have over 4-6 TB of music and I may dedicated a single unRAID server to must the music archive since there are so many files. These days, I rip to FLAC and store in the longest file name format. Then use mp3fs to transcode on the fly when needed or copy to another archive when needed. After that I'll use mp3tag to rename it according to the archive needs. One of these days I'll get mp3fs running on unRAID. Right now it's just on my XBMC. Since I have good hearing (Which is why I'm bringing this up) 128K CBR just won't cut it. It becomes especially evident when you are DJ'ing with 2000 watts of power. These days I encode with Lame -alt-preset-extreme or CBR320KB/s since my software and hardware requires mp3's. i use Virtual DJ Pro and a Numark HDMIX. I thought my music collect was impressive, but over 4TB puts my little collection to shame. :'( As for CBR, Flac VBR, I understand where your coming from. Better Quality for the high output. I'm just listening in the car or mp3 player so just set a Minimum level at what comes off normal CD's. And while I've got a 500Watt RMS system, the wife won't let me crank it past 10% What I am interested in is MP3Tag and getting id3 info from the net, to correct Genre field. How does MP3Tag do this? Does it go on the filename or Artist/Title ID3 tag??

Use Tag & Rename, but will look into MP3Tag for the lookup function. As for how I file them I use Artist\Artist - Title.mp3 All the other info is in the id3 tags which can be displayed in Explorer. Plus most MP3 players use the id3 tags to display the songs info, not the filename. No Album images cause I listen to my music not look at it. LOL Also with so many artists releasing many albums, it's highly likely to get more than one copy of the same song, so I don't file by album. This allows me to ensure i don't duplicate the same song. PS, Also drop everything to 128kbps CBR to keep a common format of MP3's. Open to any ideas as my music collection is passing 150Gig.

Er, Yep. As mentioned once web interface was back up, tried Win Explorer to access 'Flash' on Tower. Web ui works great, can start array and transfer to and from Disk1 and Disk2. Just can't access 'Flash' to transfer some plugin files. Anyone??

Hi All So I followed the instructions and stopped the array. from Win XP I accessed the flash and overwrote bzimage and bzroot. Then Rebooted the Tower. Here's where the fun began. once the web interface was back up, I went to Win Explorer and refreshed the network and clicked on 'flash'. Error message popped up saying unable to access flash. What the??? Upgraded so I could use the plugin architecture. Any way I can resolve this?? Without removing the flash and clearing it to start again? Only have two drives in this unit, BUT. The flash is actually a small 20Gig Hard Drive setup for Unraid. And is (or was) working perfectly.

Actually reason CPU was locked by AMD is usually because it failed tests as a dual core or higher cpu speeds, so they downgrade it's performance till the cpu operates stable and reliably. Look at the Phenom x3's. They came about because of a core failure in the manufacturing process. I agree with Rajahal, you want reliability in a NAS/Unraid environment first. And and Rajahal mentions, monitor the system. It may be you're really lucky got a good deal.

JoeL, is there a way to limit this disk buffer cache to a fixed Max size??

I picked up a couple of laptop's with stuffed LCD screens and have them running XBMC Live, hooked back to my Tower. Also three Xbox's with XBMC as main usage, and my main PC has XBMC as well but just for test purposes. Looked at Boxee & Plex, but as a long-time XBMC user, couldn't make the change. Once I can source a couple more compatible laptop's, I'll retire the Xbox's.

I'm a big fan of MC myself. it's gone open source in the last few months, and I think judging by the pages, that the next update should be incoming soon. Never steered me wrong yet. OK, took one look at YANFOE and sorry, last build was Feb 2011, and no TV Support. Back to Media Companion till something better comes along.

I've been a user of Media Companion for ages. It's been very good and easy to use, but recent support has been lacking. Tried EMM but got so confused by the interface I said 'Na, not for me'. I might have to give this YANFOE a looksee. BTW, still using Media Companion as all I do is scrape for XBMC4Xbox and XBMC live, hasn't done me wrong yet...

Just one note to the above procedure. It is not for 'ALL' instances of XBMC. Meaning, 'This will not work for XBMC on XBOX!' And before all the HooHa, yes, people still use XBMC on their Xbox's. I personally have five unit's around my house, plus friends and some neightbours I've talked into this setup. Just worth mentioning.

Just a note for connecting a SATA II drive to a SATA I controller. Some drives have a jumper on them to make them run at SATA I Speed, while other drives/manufacturers have software control, ie: download a program to set SATA I or II on the drive. I know some drives try to auto-negotiate, but my experience is they don't do this well with certain chipsets. My two cents, hope it helps.

If your transferring large chunks of data, it may be worthwhile considering picking up a gigabit hub, and connecting everything to that. There's a great time difference when using 1000Mb/s than 100Mb/s. Sorry for the bad news. Cheers Rob

Having a quick google about Airport Base Station, bring up a new "Extreme" unit, that has Gigabit lan ports. But, Also found a wiki site that shows some older models didn't, only 100Mb ports. Check this site, it lists model numbers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AirPort#AirPort_Extreme_Base_Station Hope this is of help Rob Oops, one more thing, your using Cat 5e or Cat 6 cabling for stable 1000Mb/s performance.

Yep, Sure can, but DVDFab also allows straight from ISO image, VIDEO_TS Folder or from a Protected DVD. Plus, for me only, I've had great success with the encoding, without the hassles of command line instructions, or wasting time and getting a rubbish Output file. For me, I've had heaps of fun (er..not) trying to get the setting just right. But hey, this is only a recommendation. I've tried Tmpgenc, Sony Vegas, dozens of others. Just never got the settings right. As for "conversions", used that term as I convert from MKV or AVI or WMV to MP4. My two cents worth.

Not sure if it's been advised already, but earlier this year the makers of DVDFab decided to separate the advancements of DVDFab Licensed version from the Free version. This means that the Free version is about two releases behind the Licensed version in functionality. Meaning some DVD protection methods are not available in the Free release. I use DVDFab for the more difficult movies, but also for the buildin DVD to Mobile conversion. I have set this up for PS3, MP4, with custom settings. These settings make a file about 1.4~1.6 gig, that works on my PS3's as well as on by Xbox1's. The Size of the files means I keep decent sound (including 5.1 as AAC) and video quality, while reducing the DVD's original 4.3G+ footprint on my Unraid. The Conversion is only available on the licensed version. And there are more options like bluray to bluray, whole disc or Main movie only.. Nice program. Other options are DVDecryptor and DVDShrink.

Got it from purko's first post, that this would work with 4.4.2 As mentioned, I had issues with 4.5beta12 and final, so thought if this was working with 4.4.2, I'd back-date to last good final, and use that for now. Can purko confirm unRUtorrent-2.8.2.full-i486-1pur.tgz is backwards compatible to 4.4.2.

I couldn´t find anything on rtorrent log file. It seems there is no general one, the execute_log seems to be related only to executed commands (I assume this means the commands automatically executed by rtorrent based on the config, like stopping and removing torrents once finished). For me enabling the execute_log works (I copy pasted the exact code from your post), rtorrent starts up and rtorrent.log appears in /var/log. However there were no entries thus far so it might not help you. I'll try your rtorrent.rc file, but I was having some strange behaviour also, with the whole system locking up. couldn't telnet in, nor use the kvm to see what was going on. I figure I have to run a memtest overnight to see if I have a ram issue. damn it. thought it was all go. Anyone know of any logs to check for errors relating to system crash or lock ups. Darn it! I'm still having problems. after two - three hours it just stops. Please, are there any logs I can get that will tell me what's going on, or not going on. I tried to add to the rtorrent.rc file execute_log = /var/log/rtorrent.log This was to get a log if there was a problem, but with it in the rtorrent.rc file, it stops rtorrent from kicking into gear at all. Any thought would be appreciated.

OK, I have got it working after every boot/reboot. It seemed that rtorrent didn't want to start. I tried 'pidof rtorrent' in telnet, with no data back. I loaded up the rc.rtorrent script from henris: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=4029.msg44645#msg44645. and modified it to start the relevant files for my configuration. When I set the command rc.rtorrent start, all seemed ok, but doing a rc.rtorrent status, said rtorrent not started. Confusion SO I decided to start from the beginning. Disconnected my HD and found it formatted as 'FATt32', so set a 1.2G partition and formatted to 'FAT'. named it 'UNRAID' and ran 'syslinux -maf j:' Copied over the UNRAID 4.5FINAL files and reconnected to my box. Booted up and changed my network settings. Copied over all the packages, created folders '/custom', '/custom/etc', '/custom/lighttpd' and '/config/lighttpd' As I had the packages folder already with rtorrent, screen and unraidweb, I followed your instructions for additions to the 'go' file for package installations. I already had the files for rutorrent extracted to '/mnt/disk1/wwwdocs' so no need to repeat. I put a new rtorrent.rc file from your last post in '/custom/etc'. Copied '/config/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf.include' to /custom/lighttpd' folder and rebooted. Held my breath, and tried //tower:86 in firefox. All good so far. So stop torrent downloading and rebooted the box. Tried web access again, and all going perfectly. I can not say what was causing the problem. I suspect the rtorrent.rc file, but I had tried your settings as well with no joy. I do believe starting again may have blown out the bugs (my stuff-ups) and got things working again. PS, just tried 'pidof rtorrent' with answer 9278. It's sure working now. Many Thanks to Flixxx for the tutorial and advice.
