  1. that's how the parity building process works. i'm not sure there is any way to avoid it. for why it has to be like that i don't know i just know that's how it is

yes parity checks will take longer the bigger the parity drives are. it doesn't matter how much bigger they are than your data drives it's just based on the drive size of your parity drives. the size of the data drives do play a small part of how fast the parity building/checks go as the data drives are involved in the process but if say your parity is 10tb drive and your data drives are 4tb, 6tb, and 8tb, then all 3 drives will be involved until parity has checked up to 4tb then only 2 of the drives involved until the 6tb mark and then only the 1 drive until the 8tb mark and then only parity itself until it's done at 10tb

  2. it should be pretty much the same if you do it either way. if you do it from unraid you can use the unassigned devices plugin to map an smb share from windows by which you'd share your external usb drive from within windows and then connect to it with the UD (unassigned devices) plugin and then you'd have access to those files from within unraid so really it's your choice there.

  3. q1) move should be fine, i've not personally had any issues with file names messing up with move compared to copy, although i'd suggest copy over move in case something goes wrong during the transfer then you still have the original data. you can install the dynamix file manager plugin to manage data from the unraid webui directly if you need that or install a container like krusader

q2) windows capitalization doesn't really matter as you can reference the data by lower or upper case no matter what the actual filenames are set as, with linux case matters so Media and media are 2 completely different folders. the way you deal with this is really how you want things personally and then just point things correctly

q3) you can/should use your current share and just point plex to the folders you are wanting the different libraries to be reading from.

overall i think you are doing it the correct way and the way that most would do it

  4. would be nice to have a keep only so many flash backups when using a seperate folder for the flash backup to go. also a way to not have the flash backup also go in the appdata backup path when you have it set to a seperate folder

  5. parity 2 requires disks to be in the exact same order for parity to remain valid but yes he could have had parity remain valid but it would have been stuck in parity 2 slot adding those restrictions.

also thankfully it's only a 6tb drive so parity will re-sync withing roughly 10 hours

It's working for me.  How did you set the template ?

Also not that the source path is not part of the "Save to" field, but it is part of the "To" select box at the right.

here is my template configs for the path mounts and the overall template, also a screenshot of how i have it in the container but i don't see the source-path in the to on the right in doesn't give me a name either unles it put {source-path} {source} but still nothing in the to on the right

After a little bit more investigation, it seems that the "source-path" parameter is working under Linux.  However, HandBrake will use the source path only if it is writeable.  By default, /storage inside the container is read-only, thus if your video is coming from there, the "source-path" parameter won't work.  If you want /storage to be writable, you can edit the "Storage" parameter of the container and change "Access Mode" to "Read/Write".  You have to switch to the "Advanced View" to be able to perform this.

sadly still didn't work after i set and confirmed both storage and output are set to read/write

You could try File -> Open Directory

Note that the Windows version is not exactly the same as the Linux one.  I think what you want is not part (yet) of the Linux version.

oh my i missed the open directory in file :( lol i was using open source haha thank you for that

it's odd that in the container it mentions {source-path} in the automatic name like in the screenshot but it doesn't provide any output at all if i use it so it's not interpreting it correctly it seems. this isn't such a huge deal but would be nice to see the linux version add it at some point (i know not under your control for that though).
thank you for the response :)

  9. is there a way to open multiple files at a time rather than one at a time like to do a whole season of a tv show without having to open each file individually and add to the queue without using a watch directory?

also is there a way to to have the files output to a folder that is named the same as the folder the source file is in? i tried {source-path} {source} but that didn't work. trying to do like how the windows desktop version does outputting

Might be the reason quoted above. I am also sitting behind GFW.

it happens to me also, and i'm not behind any proxy or vpn. no proxy needed to get to github. i've not figured out why it's happening though

  11. hi, im on unraid 6.12.4 and im having a ton of general protection fault errors showing in my syslog and was curious if anyone knows what they mean or what to look at troubleshooting to have the errors stop. nothing seems to be not working and there are no other errors that i see in my syslogs. these are the errors i'm talking about https://pastebin.com/L7yxwWAW. i also attached diagnostics. thanks for any help given in advance.
