If yes raidz expansion in not currently supported by zfs, there's some work to support that but no idea when it will be merged, if you had for example 6 disks you could start with 3 in raidz1 and then add a second vdev with another 3, but would lose 2 disks to parity.

 

 

 

 

 

I was afraid of that. Would there be any benefit to formatting my array drives in zfs as opposed to btrfs?

Quick question...

 

I currently have 8 drives in my array. I'm wanting to pull 5 of them into a zfs pool (5 18TB drives). Due to storage limitations, I can't pull all of them at once. Is it possible to setup the pool initially with 3 drives, move the data from the 2 drives still in the array to the new zfs pool, then add the last 2 drives from the array to the pool?
