  2. Hello, noob to unraid. I take deep sky long exposure astro images with a relatively advanced amateur system housed in a permanent observatory along with a dozen or so other guys doing similar imaging. Some quick calculations with some new hardware I'm getting shows that we could be creating up to 12TB of data per year with just our observatory. There are 8 or 10 others at this facility that may be interested in sharing an array. SO I've done a bit of reading, some watching, some buying and that brings me here. Trying to find a cost effective non-professional level of security and availablity for gobs of astronomy images. Not uncommon to take a few hundred to be combined for a single final image. I have plenty of room for a refurbed rack server, tower or other at the obsy. We have Gigabit to the facility, fiber between the buildings and Cat6 where we want inside our building. Currently most of our equipment is run directly from DC power using buck/boost convertors/regulators where needed but also have 50A A/C in the shed with whole system surge protection and good grounding. The roof rolls off and due to noise I want to keep the server in the scope room so the enviroment can change when that roof opens. I'll be reading thru the forum but anyone interested in steering me in a direction, please I'm all ears. thanks, Jeff
