  1. I had a drive fail today and replaced it. I noticed when I brought the array back online, the shares were available while it is rebuilding. Is it ok to use the array while it is rebuilding? Thanks.
  2. This is a fantastic thread. Thanks for taking the time to write out the detailed step-by-step instructions. I got help from others on here too, so many thanks to them as well.
  3. Just curious, did you setup the dual NIC as teaming or dedicate one to unRAID? for my purposes, I don't expect to copy a lot of data to unRAID that isn't on another VM. Should I do NIC teaming and what's your take on that? If the preference is to passthrough a NIC to unRAID, then do I disable the vmnic? Thanks.
  4. Thanks for your help. I got it all working now. My problem was I was using unRAID 4.7, so I upgraded to the latest beta and was able to passthrough the m1015.
  5. I just got an email from TAMS that they have this configuration available and they are working through the list. Special on these is $319 right now. I ordered two. 6. I'll give it a try changing the vt-d setting again. What version of esxi did you use? I originally tried 5u2 and the 5.1u1.
  7. I have the same setup (X9SCM-IIF and 1240 v2), but I'm having trouble with the step of passing through the m1015 to Intel RES2SV240. I can see all the drives but when I go to Advanced Settings, it states the Host does not support passthrough configuration. Any chance you can give me a pointer on your setup?
  8. I'm just getting bit by the bug to retire my multipurpose desktop to a full esxi build. I'd like to get some advice on the build although most of the stuff I've taken directly from other posts. Components: Some of these items are out of stock at newegg but using the links for reference. I'm still shopping for the best prices. I'm on the waiting list for the supermicro deal and received a reply they should have more in 3 weeks. I'm leaning towards waiting to get the SuperMicro case and modding it instead of going with the Norco 4224. It seems like a better deal and cheaper in the end. 2. Datastore drive - is one 256GB SSD good enough to run 2 moderately active OSs? 3. Cables - what cables will I need? I'm not familiar with the m1015 to SAS expander, so do I need a certain type of cable? 4. I am planning on using a bunch of 2.5" laptop drives until I can slowly replace them over time or at once if there is a decent enough sale. I was planning on going with RED drives at some point. Thanks for your help. Jeff
  9. I saw a post recently, might have been on AVS, about the general specs of three different options TAMS was offering. I can't seem to find it now. Anyone know what the current specs are on the servers TAMS is getting? I believe there were 2 AMD options and 1 Intel option. Either way, can ESXI be run on the known versions of the setup, or is a new board and cpu required to get there? Thanks, Jeff
  10. I don't think I need all 32GB now, but I will be running my whole house htpc (sagetv) and tinkering with a slew of other test VMs, plus unRAID (sab, sb, crashplan, etc). I don't need it but I want it. Thanks for the information and taking the time to answer me. Very helpful and much appreciated.
  11. I've been lurking for some time as well, and can't make a decision on the mobo or case. In reading other threads, is there not memory available to take the X9SCM-F-O to 32GB or is it just too expensive of memory? Also, for the X9SCM-IIF, what's the memory you are using? Amazon has the IIF for about $168 right now, but reading the bios flash issues makes me think twice (issue being the v2 cpu I would purchase would not be recognized and mobo unflashable. And is there another board I should consider in the same price range where getting the memory to 32GB is not an issue? Is there an alternative 20-24 case like the Norco but preferred even if it is more expensive? I like inexpensive, but wanted to be sure there isn't another case in the neighborhood (+200) that might be better. By the way, I'm going to run esxi with several VMs and take advantage of many of the unRAID plugins. I got mid way through my AMD conversion only to realize the mobo does not support passthrough, so I'm starting fresh. Thanks. Jeff
