  1. Yep, that was the issue... some electrical tape got the system to recognize the disc... Thanks for the help!
  2. Sorry, newbie here tower-diagnostics-20230710-1045.zip
  3. I have an HHD that I erased in my Synology NAS and I'm trying to use it to replace a small/slow HHD on my UNRAID server. I have an 8TB Parity drive, a 6TB disk 1, and a 1TB disk 2. I'm trying to replace the 1TB disk 2 with a HGST Unltrastar (8TB). When I shut down, remove the 1TB drive, Insert the 8TB HGST in the same slot, then power back on; disk2 shows up as missing. When I select the drop down I don't see the option for the 8TB HGST I just put in. Any suggestions?
  4. Ok this is what worked. (From noob perspective): Installed Unassigned Devices and Unassigned Device Plus MAIN>ADD REMOTE SMB/NFS SHARE Found Synology NAS and selected share I wanted (just for good measure I set up a separate username and password for the unraid NAS to use) Mounted it TOOLS>Docker Safe New Perms Installed User Scripts Created script as follows for additive copy rsync -avh --exclude='#snapshot' "/mnt/remotes/Name_Of_SynologyNas_from_main" "/mnt/user/Name_Of_Unraid_Share" For mirror rsync -avh --delete --exclude='#snapshot' "/mnt/remotes/Name_Of_SynologyNas_from_main" "/mnt/user/Name_Of_Unraid_Share" Also to speed up the transfer... I went to Settings>Disk Settings>Tunable(md_write_method) and changed it to "reconstruct write"... this brought me from 30 to 120 mb/s. Will change it back afterwards to keep all the disc from staying spun up.
  5. I'm looking to use my UNRAID NAS as a local backup of my currently Synology 4 bay. I'm not looking for a detailed guide here; but I'd love some guidance on what steps I should be researching to get this done. Really just looking off for a jumping off point so I can ask the right questions when researching. ------------------- This is where my head is at now..... Should I set up a shared drive with my UNRAID NAS and then just use: sync('X:/SYNOLOGY_NAS_share', 'F:/UNRAID_NAS_share', "sync", purge=True) in python to copy over? Is there a cleaner way. ------------------- Thanks! Carb
  6. I downloaded the Basic.key file and put it into the config folder of the UNRAID USB.... seems to all be working now.
  7. I just decided to turn my old tower into a NAS with Unraid. Everything was going smooth until I tried to start he 30 day trial. Gave me a "Download error 5." I figured darn... much be an issue with the trial. So I purchased a key.... input the key and then got Download error 5 again. I restarted the system. Getting the same issue.... Anyone have any ideas? Is this a common issue? Thanks, Carb
  8. Thanks Hoopster! Has anyone tried out these drives? https://serverpartdeals.com/products/hgst-ultrastar-dc-hc320-hus728t8tale6l4-0b36404-8tb-7-2k-rpm-sata-6gb-s-512e-256mb-3-5-se-hard-drive
  9. If unRaid doesn't have all the disks running full time like TrueNAS does... why buy Reds? Aren't the benefits of reds 24/7 run life?

  11. Well that's good to see! THanks for sharing
  12. Thank you sir, I'll check out your thread. I apologize I meant ASUS. Thanks for the tips. I'm slightly concerned that the i3 9100 won't be able to transcode 4K footage.... so I may need to be on the search for something more powerful. Maybe AMD is the way to go, IDK.
  13. some of the above components are not compatible with ECC memory ............ I found a list of intel processors that support ECC here: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u...CMemory=True&1_Filter-ProcessorGraphics=19001 Which led me to this guy (with integrated graphics) - https://www.newegg.com/intel-core-i...sktops-_-intel-_-9SIA2W0DP00398&source=region I just started looking for MBs... but I found this guy from gigabyte: https://www.newegg.com/asus-ws-c246... server-_-asus-_-9SIAFJ8B1N4238&source=region Would be nice to get that price down a little.... but I'm happy it's not $400.
