Hello Unraid Community,
I'm planning to build my first Unraid Server. Never built a PC before, so I'm hoping to get your thoughts on this configuration. I currently self host a bunch of stuff on Kubernetes in Google Cloud, but I want to switch to a local setup since it's getting too expensive.
Requirements:
Storage for photos, videos and books
Running a bunch of Docker containers:
Jellyfin, PhotoPrism, Vaultwarden, Git Server, IntelliJ/VSCode Remote Code Server, RSS Reader, Wiki, Home assistant, Sonarr/Radarr/Jackett/etc
I have some homebrew applications that I want to run as cron jobs using containers
Virtual machines:
I usually have headless VMs running Debian, Arch and NixOS for testing and packaging
I don't have a Windows VM, but I would like to have room to be able to run one in the future. No gaming needs though.
Time machine and bootable backups for macOS machines
Build:
CPU: Intel Alder Lake Core i5-12600K
Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S chromax.Black, 120mm CPU Cooler
Motherboard: ASUS Prime Z690M-Plus microATX Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB C16
Case: Fractal Design Noe 804 MicroATX Case
PSU: EVGA Supernova 750G+, 80 Plus Gold
Storage:
Cache: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB
Docker/VM: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB
Array:
Seagate Ironwolf NAS 8TB 7200 RPM HDD x 3 (2 + 1 x Parity)
Seagate Ironwolf NAS 4TB 5900 RPM HDD x 1 (reusing)
Just planning to use the iGPU for Jellyfin, might buy a cheap GPU in the future for the Windows VM if prices go down further. I'm aware Unraid has some stability issues with Alder Lake - so I might just use software encoding for Jellyfin till those issues are resolved.
Do this build look okay? Are there any pitfalls that I need to be aware of? Would really appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks so much!
