Chinese LSI HBA's?
I know how them China people like to "borrow" other's designs.. just didnt know how well they'd work. Guess my problem is (like many others I suspect) is that I'm new to the whole Unraid thing.. and know little about Linux (or rather non-Windows) based systems.. So if anything slightly funky goes wrong (ie weird errors/problems) I wont know how to fix it and will need to read up online to work it out, I like to tinker.. hence why I'm not buying a NAS.. but I also dont have unlimited time to spend on it either

Chinese LSI HBA's?
Hey all, I've been looking around for a new HBA to replace my rocketraid 2720. I've skimmed through the "Recommended HBA" thread as well as a few others. A lot of people warn about LSI cards from china.. my question is what is actually wrong with them? I require a card with vertical SAS connectors and found this one: LSI SAS 9220-8i IBM ServeRaid M1015 46M0861 P20 IT Mode ZFS FreeNAS unRAID on ebay for $66 AUD. Now I realize just coz it says unRaid in the title doesnt mean it is necessarily compatible.. One from The Art of the Server (actually the same model) work out to be about $150 AUD (inc shipping) I dont mind paying more for something that is going to work easier/better... but on the flip-side I also dont like wasting money when I dont need to! What do you's think... (Sorry if this has been asked before) .. Kimbo

5x SATA (JMB585) with PCIE to M.2 Adapter?
Hi Everybody, New to Unraid.. My server build is just about ready, but reading in the forums it seems that my old RocketRaid 2720 is not supported. For my server I am utilizing old hardware: Asrock H97M-ITX mobo, i7-4xxx CPU etc I was thinking along the lines of a JMB585 card (this one) plugged into a PCIE M.2 adapter (one of these.. or the 4 port variant). This way if/when I upgrade the system I can utilize the M.2 ports on the new motherboard and free up the PCIE port for gfx or 10GBE card... (only 1 port on ITX due to case limitations) All array drives (spinners) will be on the JMB585's and the mobo sata's will be cache (SSD's) and parity disk(s). Will these 2 cards work together? Thanks.. Kimbo
