I have two UnRaid servers that are several years old now. 5 disks plus 2 parity on one, and 7 disks plus 1 parity on the other. At first I ran Parity-Checks every 30 to 60 days. More recently I seem to remember to do it at 120 or more day intervals. It takes in the neighborhood of 25 to 30 hours to run the parity-check on each system. No errors ever found on either system. Any input on how often to run parity checks?

Thanks. I will look into better interface options. What I have now works, but from that thread on recommended controllers it looks like it could be a lot faster. Tom

I've been using Unraid for about a year and a half now. My use is nothing exotic, just as a backup destination for several computers on my local network. My array is currently 2 16 TB parity drives and 3 data drives (14, 14, 16). SATA interface. Parity check takes about 50 hours for that array. The speed is about 85 Mbytes/sec. Is that about what you would expect? Also, the array is about 75% full. Any guidance on how full it can get before it would be a good idea to add an additional data drive?
