  1. Did anyone ever find a way? I see older posts about this, but I am running version 6 and would like to use unison instead of rsync.
  2. tHE COPY STARTS, RUNS FOR ABOUT 2-3 MINUTES, THEN GIVE ME THE SYSTEM DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH SPAce and needs 2.4TB to complete the copy. Sorry for caps. unraid-diagnostics-20170417-1652.zip
  3. I read this and set it to 2.5TB, and I have about 3 drives that could handle a file of that size. Still did not work. So, I am using WinSCP to copy the file to a big enough drive, and it is taking its time, but appears to be working. I don't have many files over 2TB, but I do have a few. This has stirred a question about unRAID in general. Let's say you do have large files, everything over 1TB, with some files in the 3TB range (think video editor). I guess the way unRAID stores files, you would need to buy drives larger than the biggest file you hope to create? While I might have 25TB free, I cannot currently write a 10TB file to any of my shares b/c none of my drives are over 4TB? In 99% of the use cases, this would not be a problem very often (except big backup files). However, if this is a limitation, it would be nice to know. If I use a backup program to stream backups to the array, I wonder what happens when Acronis starts to write a file, to 1TB drive, and then the backup goes to 2TB? I could test this, but I wonder if others have had this issue? I guess the backup would fail? A workaround would be to use Acronis Backup Splitting, where it makes multiple 4GB files for large backup jobs, so if a drive fills up, it can spill over to the next drive? I might need to start another thread. I love unRAID, so I am not changing. My server is about to have its 10th birthday. David
  4. I changed all my shares to YES and it works now. I still have the problem of not being able to copy large (1TB) files to my array, I will keep looking for answers for that. David
  5. Hello, I bought a 2 pack of the max edition unRAID back in the 5.x era, and I have been upgrading it ever since. I had the 6 BETA for the longest time and finally upgraded to the full 6. I have had the same system for years now, but upgraded the hardware about ever 4th year. My last upgrade was to an ASRock Z87 extreme11 a/c board and i5 CPU, which has been great (the board comes with 22 SATA ports and an internal USB port, so it looks nice.) I have 15 devices and 32TB, running dual parity. Over all the years and upgrades, I have never lost a file! Now, my problem is the mover seems to be stuck. I have included my log files, I have a 15k 73GB SAS drives, everything else is SATA. Everything is green, and from what I can tell rsync runs but never moves the files off of the cache drive? I SSH'd into the box and ran top, I see rync running. Of course I have rebooted the box several times. When I ran ps-ef grep rsync, it looks like it runs these commands: root 10420 10301 23 14:42 ? 00:01:07 /usr/bin/rsync -i -dlDIWR --inplace -pAXogt --numeric-ids ./share1/AcronisImages/1366BLK/My_partitions_full_b1_s1_v1.tib /mnt/cache root 10421 10420 0 14:42 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/rsync -i -dlDIWR --inplace -pAXogt --numeric-ids ./share1/AcronisImages/1366BLK/My_partitions_full_b1_s1_v1.tib /mnt/cache root 10422 10421 4 14:42 ? 00:00:12 /usr/bin/rsync -i -dlDIWR --inplace -pAXogt --numeric-ids ./share1/AcronisImages/1366BLK/My_partitions_full_b1_s1_v1.tib /mnt/cache IS there a way I can look at what rsync is choking on? The only other problem I have noticed is when I tried to copy a 2.5TB file to my array, I would get the disk full error. I tried changing the share settings, that did not work. Not sure if that is related? The only other thing I can think of is I recently added a Mellanox ConnectX-2 10GBe card, but I disabled that during my troubleshooting. I was thinking of powering down and pulling the card? Could a NIC really cause this issue? Thanks for the help, the community looks better than ever! I have several people at my working looking to switch toi unRAID from the Commercial NAS'es. David unraid-diagnostics-20170415-1429.zip
  6. Thread Necro time. Those 10GBe Mellanox cards are $20 in 2017 on eBay with a cable. So glad the driver was added, makes my life much easier. Only question: are the cards smart enough to do auto-crossover? MDI-X or whatever it is called, I am going from workstation direct to server, no switch. Thanks, David
  7. Hello, Well, things didn't go well trying to install the latest ProFTPd on my 6.0Beta4 install. the OEM ftp worked, I just wanted more than 1 user and more security. However, now I would like to revert back to the original config. I know proftpd puts files in various places, and makes directories and log files. So my question for the group is: How can I completely uninstall proftpd and remove all traces of it? I tried the obvious: /boot/config and /boot.packages. After removing all the files that look like they belonged to proftpd, I still have the ICON in the GUI, and the stock FTP does not start. It was easy enough install all my add-ons, so maybe it would be easier to make a fresh config? If I need to do that, will the typical UTILITIES-NEW CONFIG work for this, or will there still be leftover parts? I am confident that my data survives through this process, I have reset my config several times. Other than the unMENU, I run the SMTP server with the daily status email, and the APC powerdown add-ons. If there is another FTP server I can use, I am all ears. I have the GCC complier install, and I think my Linux knowledge is workable (I work for Sourcefire). Thanks, Dave
  8. Hello, I am running 6.0 BETA 4, and I am trying to get Proftpd installed. The problem I have in that I have tried many times to install, and now I would like to clean up and try again. I have tried both ways, that I know of, to install. I added the file to the plughins directory and restarted. I also tried copying the TGZ files to /boot/packages and running it that way. So now I have proftpd files all over the place, and I 1st need to clean up and start fresh, any ideas? I have the proftpd.conf file in the /etc directory, and I also have the GCC addon installed, so I can complie if I need to. Any and all help is appreciated. I have the GUI showing thev1.3.5rc3v2 in installed, but it will not start. 9. Hello and thanks for the reply. Before adding ANY drive to ANY array or the like, I always run the LONG and THOROUGH diagnostics from whoever makes the drive. I then use some of my own tools, like SpinRite, Crystal, HDD Tune, and a few others depending of what I think may be the problem. Of course, the 3TB was tested and burned in for 72 hours prior to being added. I actually went back to basics on this problem to hopefully find my solution. I took out all new drives, so the 3TB RED (which had no data on it) is not being used at the moment. I also saw a few errors that looked like permission problems and the volume being mounted a R-O on ANOTHER different 1TB drive, so I copied the little data that was there to another drive and removed that one too, so I am now down to 8 drives. I then made a new config, and setup the drives and began the parity sync. Hopefully this will fix my problem, time will tell with 25% complete and 7 hours est. to go. If I can finish a parity sync, I will retest, low level format, and then burn in the 3 drives I want to re-add to my array. I need to walk before I attempt to jog Thanks for your input, David
  10. Hello, So, I am back up, mostly, after a mobo failure. I went with 6.0 BETA b/c I had an LSI RAID card (IT Mode BIOS) and 5.x would not see drives on this card. I replaced 2 of my 500GB drives with new WD RED 3TB ones after clearing off the data and doing a New Config. This all went well, but now I have the new issue that once I get to around 70% +/- the GUI is unresponsive, but I can still access everything via SMB. I can also get into the console, but if I run too many commands, the console will just hang. I tried to see the Paroty sync status via the CLI, and that always hangs up. Where to begin? Not sure what directions I should take? I guess I could pull the new drives and see if the parity will sync without them? Thanks, Dave
  11. I can honestly say, UNRAID is THE MOST AMAZING NAS OS EVER. Here is why, and I told all my friends if I got through this, no other NAS would be worth a crap. I got anew job with Cisco/Sourcefire, and I needed to config my home lab, required for the job. I decided to use an ESX server I had lying around, all I needed was some drives. So, I went and bought a new 3TB drive to replace any of the 1TB drives in my unRAID server, figured I would upgrade whenever I could. So, I pulled a 1TB drive and paired it with another I had not being used to make the 1TB mirror in my ESX server. No biggie, I would just rebuild the unRAID with the new 3TB and enjoy the extra space. Well, wouldn't you know it, my dated nForce DFI LP4 board with a 4800+ CPU would not get past post when I tried to reboot, it would just hang after mem count. I thought crap, I have a spare board just for this case. Well, my spare board was a SuperMicro with only 4 SATA ports, and I had a 16 port adaptec I thought I would use. None of the controllers, the Adapter or the onboard SATA supported 64 bit LBA, so they would not see the 3TB drives, only the smaller ones. I was stuck, so I decided to buy a ASrock z87 extreme11-a/c with 22 SATA/SAS ports. I figured since it was such a new board, it would have to support the bigger drives, and I would also not have to deal with a controller, everything off the mobo. (my DFI LP4 had 8 sata ports, and then I used a Highpoint 4 port to cover the other drives). Well, then the Asrock arrives, and it does not support JBOD. I go through the trouble of flash the wrong BIOS with the SAS2FLASH utility, and after 3 bad flashes I get to the point that the controller BIOS no longer even shows up. I think I am OK because the flash utility still sees the card, just no BIOS is installed that works. After looking around, I find the SAS3flash util, and what I think is the correct IT BIOS for my onboard LSI SAS3008 controller. A little luck and I flash the correct BIOS, and all my drives show up in the BIOS now. Well, then I have unRAID problems. I can only see my drives when plugged into the onboard SATA controller, and the LSI card, with the IT BIOS, will not show up. This never gets solved, so I decided to go with the 6.0 BETA of unRAID. Upon 1st boot, the BETA sees everything and I begin to rebuild my volume. While it is rebuilding, I can see most of my data. I think there are a few directories missing, ones that were on the drive I pulled, and while I am doing a parity rebuild, I am not sure I did everything correctly. I reset the unRAID config when I was trying to get the drives detected, and I think this messed up my rebuild of what was on the drive I repurposed. In the end, I have about 90%+ of my data back, which is good enough. I think I lost my Technet ISO files, which I can easily re-download. Many of the important things I have backed up elsewhere, like on my Thecus N5200pro and my Drobo Pro 8 drive model. Once I get everything 100% on the unraid, I will sync my volume with the last backup I did on the other NAS'. All in all, I am surprised I went through such drastic changes after a mobo failure, and the fact I lost so little data, and could have lost none if I knew what I was doing. Happy and amazed at how well this NAS OS handled what I threw at it. My last unRAID was the 5.01 BETA, and that ran for over a year, so I guess I am good wit the 6.0 BETA. 12. Hello, I went with 6.0-beta4, after trying 5.0.5 and it not seeing any of my drives. I guess they added support for the LSI SAS 3008 in the new build, and I am up and running, did not even lost my data! YAY! 14. 6.0-beta4 installed, then it saw all my drives from the LSI SAS 3008 with the IT BIOS. I did not even lost any data, and it is doing a parity rebuild now, but I can browse and see all my files. Not happy I have to use a beta, but al least my server is up with the new hardware and all my files are accessable now... Dave
  15. Here are pics of the RAID controller and booting the mobo and that it sees the drives.
  16. Hello, When I go to the drives and click the drop down, nothing shows, this is my problem. If I plug the drives into the mobo STA ports, I can see them, but not when plugged into the LSI SAS 3008. I have 13 drives, so I need to make use to the SAS 3008, mobo only has 6 ports. Dave
  17. Hello, Thanks for the reply! Yes, I can see the drives when I boot the new mobo, and I have gone through alot to get to that point. However, I can only see the drives in unRAID if I plug them into the mobo SATA, and not when I plug them into the LSI SAS3008. I went through the re-flash process of the LSI SAS3008 and used the IT BIOS instead of the IR one (after flashing the wrong BIOS 3 times, got lucky I didn't brick it). I also downloaded and updated to 5.0.5 from 5.0.1 beta. I also installed my key now, so it shows 23 possible drives to be added. So I could use some help to get my system back up. I also did a UTILS --> NEW CONFIG, that did not help either. Thanks, Dave
  18. Hi, Been going through a heck of a time since my mobo died, I have many alot of progress, but I still have a few outstanding issues. The other posts are not getting responses, so I thought I would try here? Please help! Dave
  19. Hello, I know this is old, but I have the ASrock mobo and it has the LSI SAS 3008 on it. I was able to flash the BISO to IT mode, and that seems to work fine. However, I can;t get unRAID to see the drives? I just updated my unRAID to 5.05, but I didn;t install my license file yet, would that cause a problem? I would think I could at least see 3 drives before I put my license file back on? No? Thanks, Dave
  20. Hello, I got the SAS3008 fixed, and it is now flashed in IT mode with the new BIOS. PHEW! When I boot it up, it shows all the drives, and I can go into the SAS BIOS and it shows everything now, as well as on the boot screen. The problem I have is that in unRAID, the drives do not show up. I pulled 5 drives and placed them on the mobo SATA ports, and those show up. Do I need a driver for the LSI SAS 3008 to work, even if it is in IT mode? 23. Hello, I am looking at one of those cards right now. They are said to support 64but LBA, and also I have seen that they work with 3TB drives: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1483771&page=107 I see in that post that you MUST update the firmware, the post tells you where to get it. If you have not updated, maybe it is time to give it a try. Report back before I buy one of those cards. Thanks, Dave
  24. Anyone get the LSI 3008 to work, and is there an IT mode BIOS for download? Dave
  25. Hello, I just got this board on 04-24-2014 for $523. I also discovered the board support ECC memory, I have 8GB running in it now. Not sure I saw that in the docs, but it passed memtest, so onward I go... The problem is I need to flash the IT BIOS for the LSI 3008 card, and there are posts here for flashing the IT BIOS for the 2308. Anyone care to help out and post the IT BIOS for the 3008 these are shipping with now? Thanks, Dave
