Hello. New user here. I've had a Synology DS411J for quite a while, and it's been utterly useless due to less than 10mbps transfer speeds, so for the past 3 weeks I've been testing the Unraid trial with with excellent transfer speeds, although I've had some issues that I think are due to my old hardware, but I'd like to have some input and confirmation on that before purchase of both Unraid and some newer hardware, including brand new disks. Also, I've tried running TrueNAS on the same hardware a while back, and had no similar issues, but I personally don't like the way TrueNAS works regarding differently sized disks, adding new disks or replacing disks. Unraid seems to fit me better. My current build is scrambled together, and contains: Mobo: ASUSTek M5A97 CPU: AMD FX-4100 RAM: 12GB (2x4GB, 2x2GB) Disks: - (Parity) 4TB Seagate BarraCuda ST4000DM004 (~15348 hrs, ~21177GB written) - (Disk1) 4TB Seagate BarraCuda ST4000DM004 (~14950 hrs, ~15588 GB written) - (Disk2) 3TB Seagate BarraCuda ST3000DM007 (~28717 hrs, ~18872 GB written) - (Disk3) 1TB Toshiba 2.5" MK1059GSM (~5021 hrs, written not reported) - (Cache) 320GB Western Digital WD3200AAKS (~12592 hrs, ~12559 GB written) Docker Containers: - (Enabled) Plex My issues so far is: - Almost constant high CPU load, even when idle (no active transfers, no running parity check, only Plex running with no active streams) - Linux systems that remotely connects to the shares have issues with intermittent disconnections that lasts for a few seconds up to a couple hours, or even requiring restarting the array and remounting the shares in Linux. No such issues connecting to the DS411J. - Intermittent UDMA CRC errors on Disk 3 (SMART shows 5) even after reseating all drives and cables. Most of the linux systems that connect to the shares are VMs running on Proxmox (Dell PE T610, 2xE5530, 16GB RAM) and the router (pfSense) and switches all have 1Gig nics and CAT6 cabling only. The considered hardware is: Mobo: ASUS Prime B450-Plus CPU: Ryzen 5 4500 RAM: 16GB (2x8GB) Corsair Vengeance LPX 2400MHz CL14 Disks: - (Parity) 4TB WD Red Plus 5400rpm - (Array) 4x4TB WD Red Plus 5400rpm - (Cache) 500GB Kingston NV1 m.2 NVMe So, the issues I experience, that should be resolved by the newer hardware, right?
