  1. Hi, My old server died a while ago. When I moved, I decided to leave the old box behind and just take the drives and USB. (Cheaping out on moving costs...) I'm now about to setup a new server. The plan is to buy a Lenovo TS440 and use higher capacity drives (4TB-6TB), because the box can hold fewer drives than I had before. Would it be possible to mount the old drives somewhere (maybe a linux box, or maybe in the server without making them part of the array and doing them one-by-one) and move the old data to the new drives? What are my options, other than rebuilding the old array? Thanks, delirial
  2. Thanks, Joe! That got me moving in the right direction. I disabled the php package in unmenu and it started working again. Kinda weird though, because I hadn't messed with the packages since I moved to 5rc11 (about a month ago) and hadn't noticed any issues. The one thing I can think of, is the fact that this was an unclean restart, and it may be the first time I noticed the web ui problem bacuase the array was not started. I'll keep an eye out for the initial problem (not being able to stream files).
  3. Hi, The other day UnRAID stopped working (XBMC couldn't stream the files on the server). I tried checking the web ui, but it would keep me waiting for ever and then finally time out. I had to restart the server (hard reset). It never came back online. The web ui seems to be running, but when I try to access it I get the following: http://i.imgur.com/NOe0dxk.png If I click the 'Log' link on the web ui, is see this: http://i.imgur.com/rMeGrsi.png I've included my syslog. The one weird message I can see a number of times is: May 12 13:17:57 VALKYRIE kernel: sas: ata11: end_device-0:6: dev error handler unmenu loads up fine, but it cannot start the array. Any ideas on what's going on here? Thanks! syslog.txt
  4. I'm using High-Water. Min free space was set at 0. I just set it to "20000000" (2GB, more than each file requires) based on the unofficial guide. Hit "Move" next and It still failed.
  5. Hi again! I spent a couple of weeks without any space left. I left some files on the cache drive and today I finally installed a new disk. I pressed the "Move" button and I've seen a few of these error messages: Mar 22 22:31:40 VALKYRIE logger: rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4 bytes [sender]: Broken pipe (32) Mar 22 22:31:40 VALKYRIE logger: rsync: write failed on "/mnt/user0/filename.ext": No space left on device (28) Mar 22 22:31:40 VALKYRIE logger: rsync error: error in file IO (code 11) at receiver.c(298) [receiver=3.0.2] Mar 22 22:31:40 VALKYRIE logger: rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (31 bytes received so far) [sender] Mar 22 22:31:40 VALKYRIE logger: rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(635) [sender=3.0.2] I have around 1.9TB left. Files are around 1GB. And not all files failed to be moved. Any ideas as to what may be causing this? regards, del
  6. The command I executed was: smartctl -a -d ata /dev/sdi >/boot/smart.txt The results are attached. And, while I don't know anything about SMART, it does say that it failed/is about to. smart.txt
  7. Heh. I guess I read Advanced Format on it, and saw the pins and assumed it worked the same way. Thanks for the clarification. This is odd. After restarting with 4.7, I'm not getting the read errors. Is it normal for a drive to error out and then start acting like normal all of a sudden? I'll be pre-clearing the new drive anyway and hope the old drive holds on for a few more months.
  8. Hi, I am about to replace a bad drive (lots of read errors) and plan on doing a 4.7 upgrade at the very same time. My drives a 2TD WD Greens (EARS), and are currently using the jumpers. I'm replacing with a EARX, should I use the jumper too or will I be able to take advantage of support for AF drives even though the drive it's replacing had the jumper? thanks, del
  9. Silly me. You were right. The problem was a limitation on the source drive. External USB drive (and apparently, a really crappy one at that). thanks, del
  10. Hi there, I recently built my first UnRAID box. The hardware is the following: CPU: AMD X2 5600+ Memory: 2GB DD2 Mobo: ASUS M4A78L-M HDD: 3x WD20EARS (all with the 7-8 jumper in place.. 2.54mm Jumpers with open shunts, in case it makes a difference) The desktop and the UnRAID box are connected to a Gigabit switch (TrendNET), the other computers (and the switch) are connected to a Netgear Wireless N routers (Gigabit also). They all get the same speed. I built the system with 2x WD20EARS initially, then bought two more but have only added one of them to the array. The fourth drive is connected and detected by UnRAID, but still not in the drive pool (takes about 8 hours to do the clear, I'll be doing that tonight). I was getting around 37MB/s write from Windows before adding the new drives. Not spectacular, but not bad either. Now, after adding the third disc to the array, I'm getting 26MB/s write. Reading from the array usually begins at 60MB/s then gradually drops to 46MB/s. This is not bad, and it hasn't changed with the addition of the new drives. So, does adding new drives decrease UnRAID's speeds (even if the drives are exactly the same)? What other possible causes are there for the decrease in speed? thanks, del
  11. I thought I'd read somewhere that one should use molex splitters because it caused problems. Glad to see it can actually be done. thanks, del
  12. Hello, I've finally bought myself the components I was missing to build my UnRAID box, but I'm now having a couple of questions. First, I bought a CooleMaster eXtreme Power Plus 500W. As it turns out, it appears to have 2x 12V rails. (Did not know that at the time of the purchase). Could I face some issues with it? If so, what issues? Second, the Power Supply only has 4x SATA ports. (This I knew when I bought it.) If I wanted to expand to, say, 12 drives, would I need to buy a PS with 12x SATA Ports? Or is there any workaround? thanks, del
  13. The problem with this box is precisely that you can't access the BIOS without voiding the warranty. Some guys are running FreeNAS on it, but they had to open the server, put in a jumper, and a special cable to get video. Some reports say if you remove the jumper from the board, the box will revert to booting from the HDD. Good news is I returned it to the store and got myself the components I was missing for a server, plus a UPS, for 50$ than I paid for the Easystore.
  14. Hi everyone, I'd recently seen a couple of posts regarding the Acer easyStore H340 and nobody seemed to have tested with UnRAID (other than some guy saying it booted in the ubuntu forums). The veredict? While a very nice box, it does not seem suitable for UnRAID. So, what's the problem? After removing the original drive that came with it, I installed my 2x Caviar Green 2TB HDDs. It booted just fine. Several restarts and all that. Eventually, I setup the RAID. It formatted the disks and built parity. After building parity I have been unable to boot from the flash unless I remove the disks. Removing the disks, and inserting right after I see the flash drive light up for the first time works, but that is just a hindrance. I also thought UnRAID allowed for hot-swaping, so I tried to insert the HDD after UnRAID had booted. That did not work. I also tried blindly going into the BIOS and changing the boot order. But as it turns out, you can't get into the BIOS unless you place a jumper in the mobo. I was unwilling to void the warranty at this point because I'm planning to return it. Using the custom VGA cable that's compatible with it should be OK, but that would increase the cost of the box by 60$-80$, and is IMHO not worth it. Plus you'd be, again, voiding the warranty. The box looks sexy. But I can't get it to work without opening it up. I'll go back to the store and exchange it for some AMD motherboard and use spare parts to build my box. regards
