  1. +1 Yes. full drive encryption or full share encryption. if i look at files via mounted share they would appear un-encrypted. what ever key is used would need to be provided to mount share.
  2. Lol... wow .. Publicenemy was right.. most drives cant saturate a gigabit network. people are always getting MB and Mb confused. --gigbit network 1000Mbps (megabit per sec) DRIVES --seagate 1.5 (ST31500341AS) can do about 124 Mbps (megabit per sec) --ssd ~ 450Mbps (megabit per sec) Samsung 850 Evo --m.2 sdd like a Samsung 860 pro 3000Mbps - if i have another m.2 in a desktop able to transfer, that connection would get fully utilized. /(providing i'm not using any QOS). If im copying to a share and my cache drive is able to pull 300Mbps write , windows copy will show ~37.5 MB (megabyte per sec) 300 / 8 = 37.5 there are 8 bits in a byte.. and literally speaking there has always been one drive that can saturate a gig network.. (ramdrive) lol the unraid /tmp directory is a ramdrive. if you setup another client on the network with a ramdrive implementation. windows copy should show at least 116MBps (1000mbps / 8). TO truly answer the question as long as your cache drive is faster than the client's drive sending the files your cache will such those files right it as fast as the write on your SSD can handle. unless both server and client have drives faster than 1000mb per sec Dont forget windows copy shows transfer rates in MB per sec so times it by 8 to get megabit per sec. ps.. marcusone yes at best you're getting 80MB = 640mbps with on a raid 0 (2 x ssd 450mbps) that is just about right. that is what i get.. peaking to 90MB persec.
  3. No we are talking.. Yes agree. So not related to unRaid just regular use i will engage them on those points. Until then I use a VM [ubuntu] with the SME CLI.
  4. So all my personal data, and all your business data, walks thru at least two companies you/I have to trust. For me this is one company to much. It's even hard for me to trust one single cloud provider but I need them currently. I would prefer a service on my unRAID box that _acts_ like a collector, builds a directory tree and gives access to the cloud services I need to use actually. Regards Harald Trust yes, but that is a whole another topic. I don't exactly trust them but i understand just how much i have to engage them. like a said in a previous post.. pageonce.com did that same thing for financial institutions. I think yodlee.com started all of that financial account aggregation. and look now, all of these bank of america , chase, wellsfargo banking portals are really provided by yodlee.com so in effect you have been using yodlee.com all along and didnt know it. http://money.cnn.com/2010/11/16/pf/online_banking_yodlee/index.htm scary.. I started using them in 1997. why go to your favorite bank's site when you can just go to the source. if you're a coder instead of making just one plugin to connect to Bank of America (which you probably will never be able to accomplish) you can go to yodlee and make a plugin to them and they will securely allow you to get what you need from any of the banks they service. this SME is the same concept centralized aggregation my passwords are stored, i make the super robust and access my accounts through SME. Not all of your business data doesn't go through two companies exactly. SME and DROPBOX and God only knows who else uses amazon S3 cloud storage. what is true; is that copying your file to SME goes to SME temp cache and then to (dropbox) ? cloud provider but essentially both the temp_cache and ? Cloud provider are on amazon S3 so are you really going through two companies? in transport everything is AES 256 encryption even iCloud uses amazon S3 kinda interesting how you still see S3 vs Dropbox vs icloud.. when they are all sitting in the same place. They have to keep enough metadata to be able to relay it to each individual cloud service in turn each service [dropbox / amazon s3] can rsync changed files this is the the basic premise. It is like the cache_drive concept keep file listings in RAM for unraid, just give me locations , sizes, archive bit maybe, date but not the actual file is kept. this is a must for cloud services like drop box to sync against a file listing. If SME did not maintain shadow file sizes drop box would not know what has changed on the other end. Take that back it is not a must they keep a shadow listing but in order to minimize actually what needs to be transferred it is a must. google "rsync" dropbox uses it alot of remote storage uses it.
  5. So basically you create an account and add all of the storage resources you wish to make accessible from the interface (even drobbox accounts) when you install the client on your computer I'm trying to be diplomatic here, but it really sounds like xlordnashx is a salesman from this sme place. He doesn't even listen to the valid point made here, in that sme would have to have all your account details from your other existing accounts that you want to use. Sounds like a security nightmare waiting to happen. I'm genuinely curious here, xlordnashx, what unraid version are you currently running? LOL I feel that way too, if that makes you feel better. No I do not work for SME. Look at the service that they offer. if i worked for SME why talk about how good it is I would just make a plugin?.. My unRAID build was done by TOM (or LIMETECH) circa 2009 I stayed at 4.5 until the other night, that is what really got me chasing improvements. check the attach pic.. my unraid is pimped im going to do a norco setup in the months to come. also I use only 1.5 seagate.. model number listed in pic because the give constant 120MBs, have not lost a drive since 2009. network: e3000 router(ddwrt) 1000tx: transfer 110 MB/s in /out unraid cache and 90MB/s read from unraid. media players: popcorn hour a400 and 3 x c200 Do understand that I'm not just a avid unRAID fan & user I'm also a Corporate Enterprise Manager / System Admin III Also side note i started programming when i was 6 years old. I was in national programming competitions 2nd place two years consecutively. (age12). I still program also, so i guess may be I will just crank this pluggin out but don't have time.. The idea of a hybrid storage appliance is far superior in thought. unRAID does local hard store and it is ingenious how is it is implemented. I've RAIDED and RAITED for 20 years now and can really appreciate the flexibility of unRAID solution. I just never needed to post but i've remedied countless questions and desires through reading the forums. So can i have my turn? [side joke/fact i've RIAM also, Redun.. array of Inexpensive modems] i took 5 sb5100 modems de-cased then fabricated them in plexi glass a few mutiport nics astaro [now owned by Sophos] and bonded them together to achieve downs 30MB/s x 5 also used three separate wires from cable tap. In response to "I don't want to send my Dropbox metadata to StorageMadeEasy." what metadata? account authentication maybe but we are talking about cloud storage and interconnects. And i dont think you actually read that clearly. as he stated 1)" I would like to see a plugin that allows to connect different cloud services from my unRAID machines seemless. This would be cool, really. " 2) "But I don't want to register to an additional service just to get my files to Dropbox. And I don't want to send my Dropbox metadata to StorageMadeEasy." So yes if all you know is dropbox then SME would be silly to use. "Sounds like a security nightmare waiting to happen." in comparison to what hacking a dropbox account? centralizing actually view as better security. since SME stores your cloud accounts authentications, you can now employ the use of ridiculously robust user/password combinations for each cloud account you use better securing them individually. If a person just has dropbox then great. use dropbox plugin. the next person uses google drive then maybe we should promote a plugin for that also? and when the next great provider comes along we could make all kinds of accommodations right ? Sure just wasted effort when you find out that there are aggregations services that make it their job to compile and centralize these interconnects. with SME client running on unraid you don't have to sync to a folder (im not sure it even does that) but you can transparently access read / write to all of your cloud locations through one share. I found SME because i was doing a project that uses Amazon S3 storage (which by the way is what DROPBOX uses) but essentially amazon S3 doesn't give you a direct client / or even ftp access directly to the S3 storage. So while on the hunt for a aggregation for S3 I found SME. The point that I'm making and what got me to make my first post ever was to promote a good implementation the would actually be worth something to me and maybe other unRAID users. With that being said. Developing a plugin to run dropbox linux CLI on unRAID is useful. But Creating a pluging to run StorageMadeEasy is way more useful. Because: It effectively will allow an unRAID user to go to 1 share and see every cloud resource they currently support which is a really extensive list. Now sure SME with store authentication for such cloud services that is kinda the whole idea. This is practically equivalent to how you can aggregate all of your financial accounts into one interface using services from yodlee.com and pageonce.com.
  6. Hawihoney - you're right.. in that I too do not want to add "storage is here ... move here then over here two copies" this is not a sync service. Storage Made Easy (SME) doesn't not do that they offer exactly what you want. SME specializes in connecting to other cloud services. Like gateway services. Now of course they have a free life time cloud (2gig) of thier own to offer you but they put that right along side all of the other connection you enter into their interface. So basically you create an account and add all of the storage resources you wish to make accessible from the interface (even drobbox accounts) when you install the client on your computer you will only see mount points under 1 folder and transparently through them you can copy and transfer you data to any of the cloud resources added to your account. "Access/Store files on any cloud – Amazon S3, RackSpace Cloud Files, Google Docs, Google Storage, DropBox, Microsoft SkyDrive, MobileMe + many more. We do not "lock you in". Manager multiple clouds – You are not restricted to working with just one storage cloud. You can use several and even multiple instances of the same service if you have more than one account. All data is seen in a unique single view. Of course," + not mentioned here but there also allow you to add FTP sites I will take screen shots and post it up showing how this works.
  7. I think in translation I just wrote up on this to cover accessing cloud storage: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=26992.0
  8. No backup shares but i just posted this to cover box and link to other cloud services. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=26992.0
  9. While I am glad that there is a Dropbox plugin, there is much more left to be desired in the "Linking to Cloud Storage" Arena. In a previous post someone some one shared their concept or unRAID + Cloud = Redundancy http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=19801.msg175987#msg175987. This is along the same thought path but with a different implementation goal and method. (FREE TO USE SME +1 CLOUD) This is a company doing just that what I am referring to http://storagemadeeasy.com/cloud_list/ Effectively allowing me to access all of my cloud storage resources through on interface. Storage Made Easy is a lifetime cloud storage it self which allows you to mount other cloud resources and transparently allowing you to access them even dropbox One dropbox equivalent plugin for unRAID connect to storage made easy's services would instantly make unRAID a hybrid appliance. <ADDED> here is the link linux cli.. http://eu.storagemadeeasy.com/wiki/linuxcloudtools/ if this can be crafted up like the Dropbox Plugin.. then good to go for all the popular clouds keeping up with and maintaining cloud storage aggregators like DropBOx for all the cloud services is insane. Storage Made Easy charges based on how many clouds you link to and I think data transfer amounts but it allows you to have Xgigs with them and access to just 1 other cloud for free. Now why would anyone what to use this? here is an example. I install a Storage Made Easy Plugin. I log into my Storage Made Easy Account and add the following dropboxes Wife's Dropbox My Dropbox Work Dropbox Amazon S3 Storage Old Share Point Work Space Google Drive FTP account #1 FTP account #2 When I access my unRaid box I will see a share called SME (Storage Made Easy) \SME \SME\wifedropbox \SME\mydropbox \SME\googledriveme That is it for hybrid access to cloud accounts. but i can effectively sync / backup / 1 way sync and delete from/ cloud accounts to my unRAID Server also. But as a stated earlier, It is very nice that we now have a DropBox Plugin, what if we have multiple dropbox accounts? BTW Dropbox uses amazon's S3 storage to host it's drop boxes. Amazon gives you 5gigs to start for free, dropbox gives you 2gigs My recommendation is skip dropbox plugin development and contact SME http://storagemadeeasy.com they will let you access you dropbox for free or 1 of 40+ other clouds they support.
