  1. There should be no reason you can't sell your hardware. As for the UnRaid license that's another question. I don't think there has ever been an official answer (that I know of) if the license is transferable. In either case most people selling their UnRaid systems (in my experience) have been because they're doing a new system. So they sell the hardware but keep the license / USB key. I'm good either way. As for location I'm in Los Angeles, California.
  2. As stated in the title is anyone looking to upgrade (and sell) their existing system? Either without license/usb key (or with if Tom allows license transfers).

    MD-900

Still nothing on the MD-900's? I would have thought they would have been selling by now. The page has been under construction for what seems like 9-12 months. Is Tom still building servers or busy with other projects?
  4. Does anyone have the coupon code. I got laid off and had it in my work email. Stupid I know. I tried contacting Tom again since he gave it to me in the first place but haven't heard back and it's been a few weeks. I'd like to cash this severance check and give Tom my last paycheck but keeping just a bit myself would be nice. Feel free to PM. Thanks all.
  5. Ya, I've had a hard time tracking down one of those mother boards lately too. I bought one of the cases new a few months back and never got around to building the server. Still in the box. Thinking of going another direction. Let me know if you friend is interested.
  6. Did it change already? Look's like it's $15 now. http://www.circuitcity.com/rpsm/Ntt/kingston+1gb/searchType/user/Ntk/Challenger/Ntx/mode+matchallpartial/N/90000141+390000001/link/ref/rpem/ccd/sitewidesearch.do
  7. This (specific) model is not listed on the wiki. Anyone know if it's compatible? Good brand, size, value. Thoughts. 8. Anyone know where the list of recommended / tested flash drives is. I know I've seen it on the website somewhere but can't find it now, removed? From memory, correct? 512MB Min, 1GB Recommended SanDisk Cruizer Sony MicroVault Lexar
  9. I've often thought about using a CD Duplicator case myself. The on problem though is that the ones I've seen don't have a spot for the motherboard. In other words where are the motherboard mounts and more problematic where do you access the ports on the back?
  10. EXCELLENT. After hours on NewEgg somehow I missed this one. Thanks.
  11. Anyone got any good options for STABLE 8 SATA port Micro ATX motherboards? There are loads in the full sized ATX MB but I'm having trouble in the MATX options. Sure you can get a 4 port and then a Promise SATA300 TX4 but that Promise card is about as much as the motherboard itself. The 8 port ATX units are cheaper but I need to keep the project as small as possible and the MATX cases are much smaller. Thoughts?
  12. I think I found the perfect case. It's more of a mini tower. I would prefer a squat LAN case but this mini tower can hold EIGHT DRIVES right off the bat with no mods or extra hardware. The KILLER thing about the case is that it has a handle for easy movement. The weight of the case itself isn't much, though I know the drives, PS, motherboard, etc will up the weight. The quality is also awesome and has some amazing reviews on NewEgg. And get this it's only FIFTY BUCKS. Portable Storage For Eight+ Drives Excellent Build Quality Handle Glowing Reviews $50 ! ! ! Check it out and give me your throughts. FYI this is a Mico ATX case, there is also a full ATX version of this case for the same price but it's 2in higher and deeper. Ideal would be an 8 port SATA Micro ATX motherboard but all seem to ATX. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811154071
  13. I've got 8 Seagate 750GB SATA2 drives sitting here that I've been laboring over for some time how to implement. There is no ideal solution out there it appears given my unique needs. But a small, light, strong, and movable case would be workable. I've seen some 4 bay units that you could use backplanes to get 6 drives into but I want 6-8 bays so I can get 8-10 drives in the case. Doesn't matter if it has a handle but would be nice.
  14. Anyone have any good recommendations for a semi-portable enclosure to use for 8 drives. Would prefer to keep the size and weight a minimun as possible. I realize that the drives alone are going to be a good weight, let alone when you add the motherboard, power supply, etc. I just want something that's manageable as I will need to take the unit with me. So any 8-bay or 6-bay (that I could install two 4:3 backplanes) into that would fit the goods, be durable, and reasonably compact? Thoughts?
  15. Actually I am aware that as long as two drives don't fail at the same time you're good as gold and that they can be swapped out as they fail. I was more concerned about two drives failing at the same time. I do understand that the odds might be low so as to be a none issue. But prefer to err on the side of more protection. Of course I'm trying to get best protection for the dollar like are many which is why UnRAID is such a good option. The point of looking at the mirrored set-up was that while extra drives IE say 20 (2 sets of 10 drives -mirrored) plus cases, server, all parts seems to compare in price to a 11 drive (10 data + 1 parity- UnRAID) system. Obviously there would be more hardware with the mirrored system, more complexity, and potentially more that could fail. However the flipside is that all 10 drives would have to fail for any data loss. As long as those 10 held different set's of data. Now that sounds like good odds. Given the same or similar pricing I'm just trying to convince myself of the advantage of the 11 drive UnRAID over the 20 drive mirrored system and having trouble seeing it other then simplicity. Any help?
