  1. Happy New Year, Everyone! I'm in the process of configuring my UNRAID server. My current setup includes 4 x 20TB HDDs, 2 x 500GB SSDs, and 2 x 2TB SSDs. I've already set up a disk array with the 4x20TB HDDs, designating one as a parity drive, and have configured the 2x500GB SSDs as a RAID1 cache. Now, I'm left with 2TB SSDs unassigned and I'm considering the best way to utilize them to maximize disk space and speed. My intention is to use these SSDs for storing frequently accessed files on a day-to-day basis. With the latest version of the software, is it possible to integrate these SSDs into the main array alongside the mechanical disks? Should I set up another share or would it be more beneficial to establish a cache pool? I'm looking forward to your suggestions and insights on optimizing this setup. Thank you in advance for your help!
  2. Hello everyone, After much contemplation, I opted for a used Dell Precision 7920 workstation boasting dual 20-core CPUs and 512GB RAM. This workstation features roughly 8 disk bays, and I intend to incorporate three 20TB hard drives alongside several 2TB SSDs. To streamline my hardware and reduce electricity consumption, I'm considering running Proxmox on this workstation. Additionally, I'm thinking of installing either unRAID or TrueNAS as a VM with PCI passthrough for the 20TB drives and SSDs. I aim to allocate a portion of these drives back to Proxmox for VM storage, while Proxmox will also have its dedicated 2TB SSD. I'd appreciate insights on whether this setup sounds feasible. Has anyone tackled a similar configuration on a Dell Precision 7920, or can anyone share advice or potential pitfalls to watch out for? Thank you in advance for your expertise!
  3. I need assistance with integrating unRAID and Active Directory (AD). Can someone guide me on how to synchronize users from AD to unRAID? I'd like to add these users to shared resources.
  4. Hello everyone, I've recently set up unRAID and successfully joined it to my Active Directory (using Zentyal as my AD server). While I can manage basic share access controls via the unRAID GUI, I'm looking for a more user-friendly method or plugin to set detailed permissions on shares based on specific AD users or groups. Does anyone know of a plugin, Docker container, or any other method that provides a GUI or any easy way of managing these AD-based permissions on unRAID? Any recommendations or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!
  5. I have a few additional questions regarding the capabilities and compatibility of unRAID: Running unRAID as a VM: I currently have a Proxmox setup and am considering running unRAID as a VM within it. My plan is to use PCI passthrough for my SAS controller. The primary reason for this approach is to minimize hardware requirements, space, and electricity consumption. My current storage consists mostly of pictures (around 4TB of RAW images) and some business files. For reference, I'm currently using a Windows Server 2012 as my file server. Is it feasible to run unRAID in such a configuration? Backup with iDrive: I regularly back up most of my files to iDrive. Is there an option or a recommended method to integrate iDrive with unRAID for backups? Hosting VMs and iSCSI: I'm considering allocating a portion of my disk space to host VMs for testing and lab work, with approximately 80% of these VMs being non-mission critical. I'm currently using Proxmox as my hypervisor and would like to attach the disk space from unRAID to Proxmox using iSCSI. Is this configuration possible with unRAID? Active Directory Integration: Another important aspect for me is the integration with Active Directory. I'd like to know if it's possible to connect unRAID to an Active Directory and inherit user permissions for file shares directly from AD. This would greatly simplify user management and access control for me. Can you provide information on this capabilitys? Your insights on these matters would be invaluable as I finalize my decision on the setup. I appreciate your time and assistance. Best regards,

  7. Hello unRAID Pre-sales Support Team, I hope this message finds you well. I am in the planning stages of building a home lab NAS system and am considering using unRAID as my OS of choice. My planned configuration includes an Intel i7 CPU, 64GB of non-ECC RAM, and approximately 6 disks. I wanted to inquire about the necessity of ECC RAM when using unRAID. Is ECC RAM a requirement for ensuring redundancy and data integrity with unRAID? Additionally, if I were to proceed with non-ECC RAM, would there be potential risks of data corruption? I would greatly appreciate your guidance on this matter as I want to ensure the best possible setup for my NAS system. Thank you in advance for your assistance and I look forward to hearing from you soon. Best regards,
