Hey everyone,
with Black Friday approaching, I am looking to purchase some hardware to replace my Synology NAS.
Purpose:
One central location for all my Plex movies and shows. This includes 4k files and *.ass subtitles which I would prefer to be able to transcode without issue to any client.
Storage needs to be expendable, thus the many bays. I am starting with only 20 TB (x3 for parity) but want to extend a lot in the future as I have a lot of not yet ripped discs and my current NAS is already full at 50 TB usable space in an SHR-2 raid.
I also want to use it for storing some other data and handling stuff like documents (and backups for that) but since that takes significantly less power than the above, I doubt this would impact the build planning.
I am listing the parts out below but will also leave a link here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/PJ6LqR
CPU: Intel Core i7-13700K 3.4 GHz 16-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 50.5 CFM CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z790-E GAMING WIFI ATX LGA1700 Motherboard
RAM: 2 x Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-5600 CL36 Memory
Cache: Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
Storage: 3x Seagate Exos X20 20 TB 3.5" 7200 RPM Internal Hard Drive (for now)
Video: MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ventus 2X 12G GeForce RTX 3060 12GB 12 GB Video Card
Case: Fractal Design Define 7 XL ATX Full Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair SF750 (2018) 750 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular SFX Power Supply
Some of it is likely very overkill so any suggestions for alternatives would be welcome. I am not firm on any parts except the Tower Case due it's many slots for hard drives. My two priorities are live encoding capabilities (again, for both 4K and *.ass subtitles) and storage expansability for future disc purchases.
Thank you in advance for your help on this.
