Hello everyone!
First of all, thank you in advance for your comments.
I have an HP Proliant Microserver model N54L server prepared with 8GB of RAM to set up a NAS at home and I have been considering the possibility of installing unRaid since TrueNAS does not convince me due to its complexity of use (note that I come from "pre-cooked" NAS like Synology, etc.), the case is that I have read wonders about unraid and I think I am going to decide to install it on my new server.
The question I want to raise is if the following configuration that I propose is correct to start in this OS:
1 HDD 2TB as parity disk.
3 2TB HDDs as storage disks.
1 64GB SSD as cache disk
1 SanDisk 16GB USB for unRaid.
All the material is completely new (except of course, the server hardware, which is already a bit old but works great)
I simply want to know if this is okay to start, the use I am going to give it is to store documents, photos and movies, in addition to using it as a media server to view content sporadically on my local network (with Plex), and maybe some backup copy of my personal computers. Later I would prepare another server exactly the same for my business that would be used to make backups of all the computers, save our ERP files, etc. I wanted to know if I can synchronize the two servers so that the company server makes a weekly copy on my NAS at home (in a folder or disk separate from my personal information) to have a backup in case of need.
On the other hand, if I have not misunderstood, I understand that using unRaid up to 1 HDD can fail, in which case, another one would be inserted and the data would be regenerated, is this correct? With this configuration that I expose, would my data be protected?
Thank you very much for your comments, I hope to join the community soon!
Greetings, Jorge.
