  1. Hello Unraid Community.

Some time ago I experienced errors in an array that I have since moved to a newer array. This included two disk failures.

One Disk I still have and would like to attempt recovery of any files on it. It is in the formerly used ReiserFS format and when mounted shows the original file structure, but each of the folders is empty of files.

Is there a recovery plugin for Unraid or desktop software someone can recommend that can read a mounted ReiserFS format drive and provide file recovery.

Alternatively, at the time of the failure I went through the forum postings attempting recovery with Unraid’s inbuilt features. I am willing to try again with some guidance if they will work with a mounted assigned drive.

    Many thanks!

On UNRAID's Tools page, run "New Permissions" against the lancache share. You'll need to repeat this process if any new files are created by the app. Alternately, you can telnet in and run MC.

Thank you John. A well detailed and easy solution. I was not successful with the New Permissions tool (it continued to be loading), but Telnet and MC did the trick beautifully. Thank you again.

  3. Hello everyone.

I apologise in advance for what may be a simplistic question having just set up LanCache.

I was hoping to ask for a recommendation based on users' experiences. I have been looking at LanCache as my solution to move Steam files off a spinner HDD and upgrade to a smaller SSD. I thought this was the solution, but being a single user in the household I realise that it may be excessive. Is LanCache suitable or would using the built in mover functionality in Steam better serve the purpose. The aim is to off-load as much as possible and reinstall if required.

I do appreciate that LanCache can work with multiple gaming platforms so there is the further appeal.

Finally, is there a way to populate the LanCache folder from existing installations without having to manually download each game again.

  4. Hello all.

I currently have an Asrock N3700-ITX board inside of a 4 bay U-NAS case. It feels like a bottle neck for my NAS which performs backups.

I assume that the prior builder of this rig was concerned about cpu cooler clearance and low power and chose such an All-In-One mobo.

I am looking to upgrade to a similar board (AIO) and would ask the community if there are any recommendations or deals out there currently in the same mini itx form factor with 4 or more SATA ports. By similar with an on-board low power CPU.

I also note most of these boards use SODIMMs so I would be open to anything that uses standard DDR4 which I have spare.

    Many thanks!

Let it sit for 5 minutes.  Then just reload the page.

Unfortunately, I tried and let it run whilst at work and overnight - many hours with the dialog box still in place.

In fact I had a window open when I saw your suggestion and tried to reload - no good.

  6. I am currently setting up a new and upgraded install for an existing array that I has served me well for some time.

Initially I was able to use the Fix Common Problems. Now every time it begins to Scan it either hangs or stops on the pop up menu.

The only action I can think of prior to this was moving various common folders off of Disk 1 to the Cache Drive (SSD), i.e. appdata, isos etc. I see other posts on various forums reporting it hanging, but have had no success from suggestions. Uninstalling and reinstalling has not been successful.

I would be very open to any community suggestions.

  7. I have progressed and everything appears up and running.

I have attached the physical drive as a .vmdk that is being picked up by the preclear script.

However, it appears that like when dealing with external HDDs the script struggles to run smartctrl with an exit status '4'.

Essentially, it says that the SMART status is unavailable and that the drive lacks SMART support.

Would this be considered a limitation of attempting to do a preclear in a VM environment or is there a -d [option] that could be added ie. 'preclear_disk.sh -A -d [option] /dev/sdx' that may resolve this issue?

  8. I apologise in advance toward my ignorance when it comes to VMs and the like. I am attempting to cobble together any knowledge that I can to get this concept up and running.

I am hoping to put together a simple means of being able to preclear drives in a Windows 8 machine running a VM Unraid.

The issues I have had so far include:

    1. How to find the IP address of the Unraid VM when running to access the flash. There does not appear to be an address when I try ifconfig eth0. I have set up the Virtual Machine as:

    Windows XP

Network with a Bridged Connection – Broadcom Gigabit.

    2. How to add the preclear files to the existing Vbox.

    ------------------

    The process was as follows.

Installed Oracle VM VirtualBox version 4.2.

I downloaded Unraid 5.0 rc2 Beta vbox image by Venares in:

    http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=9572.msg96289#msg96289

This vbox download does not include a .ovf file to install as an Application as suggested in this guide:

    http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Methods_of_user_customization#Running_unRAID_inside_a_VM

Unraided’s files appear to no longer be available.

I set up a new virtual machine as XP with 1024MB of Ram and loaded Verares Vbox image.  I changed the Network connection to a Bridged Connection. Unraid is able to successfully boot to console.

I am attempting to obtain the IP address whilst the VM is running without any success. Presumably with the address I should be able to access flash to copy the preclear files across.

Once copied across I hope to attach a ‘physical’ hard drive into the process, but I figure one step at a time.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  9. I am struggling on how to edit the appropriate config file for an istat package setup through unmenu so that an alias is displayed for /boot and  /mnt/disk1 etc. An example of what i am trying to accomplish would be to change /boot to appear as 'Flash'.

I have it setup to auto install on reboot.

Any help on the correct line of script would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

  10. Wow, it is always a pleasure having such knowledgeable individuals willing to provide such answers. Thank you. I feel I have learnt a trick or two this afternoon.

You can make an alias which points to the hostname while you transition. (and I do recommend you change it).

So you can have both a hostname as you have now and one without the spaces all defined to the same IP if needed.

WeeboTech - As an interim measure how would I establish such an alias to the same IP, so that both are accessible. I am at a loss as to what the process may be called to do a search.  Any insight to point me in the right direction?

  11. When I originally built my first Unraid I made the critical mistake of making the server name two words with a space. Talk about good practice coming back to bite you!

As such I would like to know if it is possible to access the Unraid Main Menu with a server name that is two words (inc. space), rather than just the IP. Can it be typed in and what is the format?

I hope that upon learning how it can be accessed as a two word server name with a space that I can then edit that format into my hosts file to simplify things.

    Any ideas?

    -Alex

  12. Rajahal,

Talking about editing Hosts files I was just looking at doing this.

This may seem little a very silly question, and it is bizarre what you find when searching, but I many years ago made the mistake of naming my Unraid server name with two words (and thus including a space). Talk about bad practice that comes back to bite you. Is there a way of being able to enter the address with the server name and not with the IP given this space in the server name?

If there is I was going to add it to all my Hosts files on every machine.

  13. Good luck Hoopster - great little case. I was looking for something truly portable if I ever need to shift etc. I hope your build goes smoothly.

My one issue that I have found is that I find the case kind of noisy with so many HDDs inside. I have placed it upon the desk where I am working and it is certainly quite audible. Albeit I did originally have my desktop in the same spot and that was like a small aircraft taking off.

As such I am considering experimenting with some foam blocks or insulation to see whether it can dissipate or absorb the noise as heat without 'cooking' everything.

  14. jensiq,

Your timing is impeccable! I just finished 'squeezing' all my components in only a few days ago. Talk about a tight fit.

I am also running a Coolermaster PSU - a modular 520W. However, I orientated the PSU fan towards the CPU as recommended by Rajahal.

With the full 7 drives installed my trickiest observation was the installation of the bottom two HDDs. I made the mistake early on of thinking that the could only be orientated with the ports facing the back of the case and not towards the front. That and pushing cables away from the slides of the HDD cage.

Congratulations on getting everything up and running in such a small case! Well done mate!

  15. Rajahal,

I am struggling to find a positive answer (or maybe I am just hoping too much for the best), but is it possible to unlock the 2nd core on a Sempron 140 with this board (GF6100-E-E)? Is the setting available in the bios?

    -Alex

  16. Rajahal I am sure that you would have the answer for this, but is BIOS-W-8M the latest Bios for this board (GF6100-e-e)? Zotac appears quite lacks in providing what the latest bios version would be.

  17. Congratulations on the newborn.

I have not seen a silver version, but it certainly was available through the stockist I purchased through. However this was in Australia, so a bit of a distance problem for you.

I promise to keep you posted on the build. Right now I have just ordered 2x Highpoint 2300 cards to allow me to use the 7 spaces available for 3.5" HDDs.

  18. A fellow unraid Lian-Li Q25 builder - I am really glad to see!

I am coming from a prior build in an 810 Stacker, so I am looking forward to the small form factor.

I am very much looking forward to following your build. Right now I am trying to figure out whether it would be best to orientate the PSU with the fan towards the CPU or away.
