  1. Well, that was obvious at all. It worked. Many many thanks!!
  2. I've just upgraded to V6.1.3. Everything is fine (dockers - SAB and SB, and OpenVPN plugin) except that the mover isn't doing anything. I've probably missed something but I can't figure out what. The setup of the cache hasn't really changed, other than I now have an appdata area, set as Cache Only. All the User shares have "Use Cache" set and indeed any changes are reflected as the files appear on the cache...they simply don't get moved later (or forced via the Move Now). Here is the cache drive :- root@myunraid:/mnt/cache# ls -ltra total 952336 drwxr-xr-x 12 root root 240 Oct 3 12:04 ../ drwxrwxrwx 4 nobody users 104 Oct 3 13:21 appdata/ drwxrwxrwx 3 nobody users 72 Oct 3 15:31 Video/ drwxrwxrwx 6 nobody users 160 Oct 3 15:31 ./ -rw-rw-rw- 1 nobody users 10737418240 Oct 3 15:38 docker.img Video is the cached version of the Video share that has a new file on it. mover log shows this. Oct 3 15:32:23 myunraid logger: mover started Oct 3 15:32:23 myunraid logger: skipping "Video" Oct 3 15:32:23 myunraid logger: skipping "appdata" Oct 3 15:32:23 myunraid logger: mover finished I expect it to ignore appdata (and the docker.img), but not Video. It should copy the files onto the array permanently and then clean itself up, right? Mover was working perfectly with the same setup on V5.
  3. while it would be nice to know how to copy very large files directly from Windows to the Unraid, I decided to mount the drive in a USB caddy and plug it in directly to the server and rsync from there. Frees up my local PC from the activity too.
  4. Now it comes to the point where I actually have a 2TB-ish TC file from Windows GUI it barfs copying across my network. Options? It is like it is waiting for a 2TB file to be created on the Unraid side and times out waiting for that to happen. 5. Thanks guys, preclear is on its way.
  6. Hi folks, Before I go through the long process that will be preclear on a new 4TB WD Red drive I'd just like to confirm that it will be properly recognized. My Mobo is an ASRock P4i945GC, relatively old tech. 8 of my drives (7+1) parity are connected to the Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8, and I use 2 of the Mobo SATA connectors for the cache and a "spare" preclearing slot. (10 bays in the server). I know that I could juggle the slots and the 4TB will work on the SM card. When I booted up the machine with the 4TB attached to the Mobo I went into the BIOS and saw that it was reported as a Size of 1801.8, which is a little weird. Anyway, when I got into Unraid preclear and smart both report 4TB. I have a mix of 2TB and 1TB drives right now, and the 4TB will initially go into the parity slot which is attached to the SM, so I'm sure that will be fine, but will I have to shuffle the HDDs in the slots to put the preclear on the SM as well. It would be nice not to, but not the end of the world. I'd end up with 1 drive and the cache that could never go to 4TB (without another SATA card anyway, maybe in the PCIe X1 slot). Is there any definitive way proving whether the drive is being recognised as "full" value, short of preclearing and seeing how far it will get in terms of TB? The preclear will take a very long time so I'd prefer not to waste that time only to find it only does 2TB or something.
  7. I'm going to call success on this issue. I've had over a week of uninterrupted good performance since I installed the new Intel NIC. I've even got SAB and OpenSSH plugins installed and running again without adding any more memory or other changes. I will likely put the extra memory in to get a bit more headroom for the future. So it seems that Realtek was the issue, what a shame that is what is built in to almost every mobo these days (except Intel ones I guess). Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and help.
  8. A quick update. I received a new Intel PRO1000/GT PCI card and installed yesterday. I've not seen any problems thus far, fingers crossed, but will reserve judgement until I've had a week of stutter free streaming. I've also got more memory arriving tomorrow so will get SAB running again and see how it behaves.
  9. I forgot to add that last night my "test" file seemed to be playing back without issues (no changes since the last try, still no plugins), so this is some sort of intermittent performance problem.
  10. Gosh limited to "just" a 2TB encrypted drive/file, what will I do?
  11. Already order a new Intel PRO/1000GT NIC, and more replacement 2x2GB memory after having to RMA the last lot. While I had the back off the server I realised that maybe my PSU might be a problem. While it is nominally 400W, it has 2 12V rails, both rated at 15A. It isn't altogether clear to me how the two rails are arranged, but it seems likely that I'm trying to run 8-10 drives on 15A (depending on cache and if I have my "spare preclear slot" busy). A few of the 2TB drives are 7200rpm and others non-green so they'll be drawing a bit more than the others when busy. That said, if this is a problem I should have been having it almost every time a parity check ran with all the drives fired up (though I get that is just 9 because 1 is my cache). Given I plan to upgrade all the 1TB/2TB drives to 4TB soon I thought it prudent to beef this up. So I've order a Seasonic X650 as well. The likelihood is that I'll be adding another 5x3 drive cage at some point anyway
  12. What would be your definition of large? And presumably you mean from the server to my clients? Nothing ended up in the log whatsoever during simple video playback, 12 files of ~1Gb each didn't show anything in the log either. Argh, it turns out that the spare NIC I had was a D-Link DGE-528T not an Intel as I first thought. As per http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=25008.msg217232#msg217232 it is actually a Realtek 8169 and it doesn't work...at all. Bl**dy Realtek, all my mobo's have them and so now do these cards...I even have TWO of these D-Link's. It seems like another order is required for a kosher Intel NIC. Any other options?

  14. Ah, good point, no I haven't tried that yet. Will try that tomorrow.
  15. Finally everything is now back and running - one disk swapped out permanently (was disk2) - one 1TB put back into rotation as disk2 (was disk 5) - disk 5 (the first redball last week, now disk2) is now a replacement "old" 1TB drive which wasn't previously part of the array when I started this journey - No plugins - Parity checked - original 2x1GB that has a successful memtest done for 12+ hours - playback stutters from a video file on disk5. - Bags of free memory. - Copied the file onto cache disk, same thing, stuttering playback which eventually hangs completely - not a client problem as the file plays without problem when local Really no closer to figuring out why. What are my options for figuring out these performance problems? Or am I faced with downgrading to 4.7 to see if it gets better, if so how simple is this to do? smart.sdd.disk5.20130911.2050.txt syslog.20130911.2040.zip
