I’m a new owner. I had this problem with 7.2.2, upgraded to 7.2.3. Still getting the “can’t create disk image” error. I tried deleting the share and making a new one with 7.2.3. No luck. I looked at your settings and duplicated those, still errors. Note the only difference between your settings and mine is that you assign the share to a specific disk in your array. Mine used the setting to allow the share to be spread across the entire array. Changing to use a specific drive did not fix the problem. The difference between your setup and mine is that you have a long running unRAID server, kept up to date over time (I assume). Mine is a new server created 3 weeks ago with 7.2.2. The backup proceeds, the Mac says “preparing backup…”. The Main screen in the web UI shows continuous disk activity for about 10 minutes, then the error occurs. I look in the share and see a temporary sparsebundle folder structure. I’m only guessing, but it may be trying to rename the top level bundle directory and failing, or maybe it’s trying to set permissions or extra Apple ones.
