Hey everyone, pulling my hair out with this one. Hardware: - HP EliteDesk 800 G5 Desktop Mini - i5-9500T, 32GB DDR4, 256GB NVMe, Intel Quick Sync - 8TB Seagate USB HDD (has its own power adapter) - Boot drive: 125GB USB flash - Unraid 7.3.1, Starter license The problem: Server hard crashes within seconds, sometimes a couple minutes of starting the array. No kernel panic, no OOM, no thermal trip, no MCE. The syslog just stops. Like someone pulled the plug. What I've tested: - Maintenance mode: Array starts in maintenance mode, rock solid for 9+ hours - Normal array start, Docker off: Crashes in ~6 minutes - Normal array start, HDD disconnected (New Config, no disk assigned): Still crashes - Docker disabled entirely: Still crashes - New USB boot drive: Still crashes - New 120W HP power adapter: Still crashes (was worried the old one was dying) - CPU temps: Nothing above 90C - Memtest86: Running, no errors so far - RAM: Ruled out What the syslog shows: The last boot's syslog shows the array starting successfully, shfs mounts the user share, Samba reloads, services start, then 25 seconds later the log just stops. Next boot shows "unclean shutdown detected." The last lines before death: 14:28:32 emhttpd: shcmd: /usr/libexec/unraid/shfs /mnt/user -disks 1 -o default_permissions,allow_other,noatime -o remember=0 14:28:32 emhttpd: Starting services... 14:28:35 emhttpd: shcmd: /etc/rc.d/rc.samba reload 14:28:57 reload_services: execute queued job 5 <log ends, system dead> No errors between that and the crash. Just silence. Key detail: This hardware ran Debian 13 for weeks with zero stability issues. The crashes only started after installing Unraid. NVMe SMART shows 296 unsafe shutdowns out of 1026 power cycles (29%), which lines up with how many times this thing has crashed on me. Any ideas? Is this a known issue with 7.3.1 or the 6.18 kernel on HP hardware? Happy to provide full diagnostics.
