  1. I get the same thing on my openelec\libreelec VMs when i shutdown\restart or force a shutdown on the VM. the only fix ive found is to power cycle the host. I think the VM doesnt gracefully "shut down" the card. I just dont ever shut down these VMs any more so its a non-issue for me really.

Its odd though as i dont have the same issue with my Windows VMs, with the exact same card.

Thanks for letting me know it isn't just me. Its a bit of a pain, especially when getting it setup and not realising that was the cause... lead me down the rabbit hole a few times.

Doesn't seem to matter if its a shutdown from within the OS, or STOP from the web OS or Force STOP.. all tend to prevent any further boots...

    Edit 2

BIOS was fine but turns out I needed to disable the on-board audio to get HDMI to pass-through.

It works now but if I restart the VM, it goes back to the kernel panic message, and the only way I can get it to work again is a full reboot.

Is there some way to properly release the cards resources so I don't need to do this???

Sorry - I found this after posting and haven't tried it yet (MB BIOS UPDATE). I can't delete my post so just ignore it for now, I'll report back after attempting it:

    Hi All,

Trying my hand at moving the HTPC into the NAS via VM. Got myself a low powered AMD HD5450 and the rest of my hardware should support VM/IOMMU.

    Info in the web interface shows;

    M/B: ASRock - Z87 Extreme6
    CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz
    HVM: Enabled
    IOMMU: Enabled

I had trouble initially but after enabling PCIe ACS Override, I can select the card in Graphics Card and get GPU passthrough working. OpenElec boots with GPU passthrough and everything seems ok...

    Except Audio. :o

IF I select "AMD Cedar HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5400/6300 Series]" in the Sound card, I cannot boot. I get a Kernel Panic error: Unable to handle kernal NULL pointer dereferences at ........ Full screenshot below. Looks like something to do with memory allocation, like the GPU is getting allocated twice or something??? I'm really not sure where to go next.

As soon as I set the Sound Card back to none - I can boot normally.

    Can anyone help?!

    MANY THANKS!

    Helio

  3. Hi Balloob,

Thanks for this - looks interesting.. was gonna give it a go but I get the following error on install after dling about 140MB?

Unable to find image 'balloob/home-assistant:latest' locally
Post http:///var/run/docker.sock/v1.19/images/create?fromImage=balloob%2Fhome-assistant&tag=latest: EOF. Are you trying to connect to a TLS-enabled daemon without TLS?

    The command failed.

    Any ideas?

  4. Since you are on the latest beta why don't you use the docker it worked perfect for me for couple of months now. The plugin never worked for me :(

Thanks for the advice. I hadn't tried it because I didn't know anything about it!

Reading up now. Looks like it should be the way to go, if I can get it to work ;)

  5. Hi All,

DI just finally upgraded to the latest Beta (6.12). I've tried many combinations of these plugins, and many reboots but still get the same issues (ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysql/mysql.sock' (2))

    Also the webgui doesn't work.

Anyone got MySQL working on 6.12 beta yet?

    Thx

  6. I have tried several times to get this working, and occasionally after using the plugin installer and the manual method with unmenu for the preinstall ssl, ssh, cpio, it works occasionally but not predictably. So i tried to install it on another test machine, 2 drives, 5b14. I get the package/plugin installed, it shows up in my settings tab, i install it to /mnt/disk1/crashplan and then turn it on. the settings tab says running, then i go and install crashplan, alter the config file for serviceport 4200, and then go to putty to setup an SSH login with a tunnel from 4200 to tower:4243...

when i try to log into the ssh tunnel, it tells me network error:connection refused. Not sure what is going on..in the past i have then gone with the manual method to install ssh/ssl/cpio and then linux version of crashplan...then i have been able to log in via ssh...however it isn't a predicatable install for some reason it was erratic.

That is why I wanted to go back to the plugin installer...i have confirmed on the initial install of the crashplan plugin that ssl was installed as well based on the verbose out put of the installer...

is there a way to check if ssh in installed? what other suggestions of something i'm sure to have overlooked that I can do to get the ssh opened?

    Hi Ericft,

This is new to me as well, but I just installed it with the plug-in no problems (UnRaid 5 beta 12). I think you get the refused error if you have setup the port forwarding but have NOT started crashplan on the unraid box.

try telnet/ssh into the box and type:

    ps aux | grep java

You should see some output with the crashplan dir etc..

Make sure you have gone into setting -> crashplan on the unraid web interface and start the plugin... maybe disable and enable to be sure.

    Good luck ;)

  7. The only thing that should be different is the cable types used on your controller card to the Norco backplanes. It won't be too much since you're only using 6 to 8 drives to start with, unless you order all the cables upfront. But still a bit of a bummer to have things come out slightly different than what you had planned.

    Thanks BRiT.

I am assuming I need the following cables "SAS to SATA Reverse Breakout Cable" ref# http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=7003.0

Thing is I am also assuming I can't just plug some of the SATA plugs in and leave others empty right?

So I would need to make sure that the MOBO had 8 SATA ports if I wanted to use only 6 HDD... if I didn't want to buy a Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 8-Port SATA II Controller Card just yet anyway (not a problem I would have had with the 4020).

Also - do you know if using 2 SATA II and 2 SATA III MOBO ports on the same Breakout Cable would be a problem?

    Thanks :)

  8. If you have a collection of ISO files on one or more hard drives you can mount those drives in the unRAID system outside of the array and transfer disk to disk.

Sorry - what would the benefit of that be from a speed perspective? Is unRAID a little slower or would I be able to use Dual Lan outside the array?

  9. Is there anyway to do some kind of LAN bridge that you are aware of? Seems that this is the bottleneck currently. I was hoping this might help me side step it...

It might not be the bottleneck you are concerned with.  How are you planning on using unRAID?

For home use. As a general NAS and for use with a distributed Media centre.

I am using LinuxMCE http://linuxmce.org/ and currently have 2 media directors that may be drawing HD content from it at the same time.

That should all be fine with a single Gbit connection though. Mainly I wanted Dual LAN just to make transferring large files / ISOs across a little quicker.... :)

  10. I'm a big fan of gigabyte.  Just not for raid systems.  What happens if the bios battery dies?  The best advice is avoid the problem altogether.

Fair point. I guess I'll go back to the drawing board. Considering Dual LAN / Teaming isn't going to work it might not have been worth it anyway.

    Thanks for your help  :)

    Helio.

  11. Gigabyte motherboards can potentially cause a big corruption problem.  It's known simply as HPA and it occurs when they backup up the bios to a hard drive.  The HPA is a small partition created by the motherboard on one of the data disk or even on the parity disk.

Thanks queeg. I noted that in the other post I referred to above, but assumed this could be turned off in BIOS. I guess I better make sure that is the case. If it was off in BIOS - this shouldn't be an issue right?

  12. Hi All,

Looking at building an UnRaid server with a Norco 4020 (recently purchased).

To begin I will only be using the 6-8 onboard SATA connections. After 6 months I will start to expand with PCIe for extra SATA connections as required (up to 20).

Key decision now seems to be the MOBO. I am in Aus and a few that have been suggested are either old, unavailable or rather expensive.

This one seems to have the key things I want:

    MOBO: Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5 AMD

    http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?sort=3a&products_id=46315

    That is:

    Dual LAN

    2 x Realtek 8111D chip (10/100/1000 Mbit)

    Support for Teaming

    Support for Smart Dual LAN

    6-8 on board SATA

    2 x SATA 3Gb/s connectors

    6 x SATA 6Gb/s connectors

Only reference I found on the forums was for the Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H - which is similar but lacks the Dual LAN:

    http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=6745.0

Anyone have any comments/suggestions or feedback on this board? Will Dual LAN/Teaming work with UnRaid? I am not set on AMD. Intel are ok too.... Mainly depends on the MOBO.

    Many Thanks!

    Helio

    EDIT:

LAN teaming doesn't work apparently :-(
