  1. Hi... I am only running 8 drives at the moment using all the onboard ports.. I've not got round to buying another sata card to expand further.. and also I can only fit 12 drives in my case so I would not be expanding above that. Cheers Matt
  2. Hi, I just wondered what people are using currently for extra sata connections. I have filled the 8 onboard ones, so need a card. Is anyone using a PCI-E card at all ? Need to find something which is easily available in the UK. Thanks Matt

    Tvix Users Thread

As a update.. the 6500 tvix is released and shipping next week... of interest besides the quicker chip and more ram is serious improvements using it over Samba, where by it seems that 40mbps hidef files stream ok. If this is true (and I'll test next week) then I'll no longer need to run a nfs server on my windows pc.. and the connection can be tvix direct to unraid. More to follow when I get my hands on it..
  4. Just to add.. I changed scripts after Mark mentioned it had been updated. Last night watched a film, turned off the mediaplayer (both me and Mark use TVIX 4100's) and went to bed... In the Morning when I checked the unraid webpage I also noticed that all the drives were up... Very strange
  5. Yes.. I am running all 8 ports at the moment..will need to buy a 4 port card next . Everything works fine , including the intel pci-e network card I have in the server.

Head to www.mpcclub.com for more details on the tvix firmwares. 1.3.05 RC1 is the latest beta and the one I am using http://www.mpcclub.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=13996
  7. I've posted more details into the tvix thread...

    Tvix Users Thread

I'm not sure.. I can link the tvix directly to the Unraid if I use samba... some 720p mkv worked ok.. and I suspect dvd iso's would as well but 1080 ts or 1080p MKV just lag and stutter like crazy. But using the Xp machine as the nfs server (which is still just linked to the unraid by network drive mapping) works fine and I can stream everything ?? So NFS seems the way to go.. but I would love to be able to drop the need for the xp machine at all.

As a update.. now running gig lan to the unraid/xp machine using netshare and a NFS connection to the TVIX. Works very well (TS and mkv files)... just waiting for NFS built into unraid to make it all perfect
  10. Erm (sorry to divert the conversation again)... I'm running 720p/1080p MKV files from my unraid over the lan to a TVIX machine.. so it does play them (and very well overall) on the latest beta release....
  11. All very interesting... Whats most annoying is when watching the usage is during a copy (a read from the unraid seems quicker not surpisingly) and the network goes down to 0 and can sit there for a few seconds before starting up the next burst when it jumps to 15-18% then 25% and then back down again.. whereas as mentioned on the 100mb link it cruised at 80-85% utilised all the time. BUT it is alot quicker moving files about which is good in my book.. as copy 100GB on a 100mb network was so painful. As a slight aside.. is anyone using the PCI-E Adaptec Sata 4 port board with unraid ok ? I am one drive away from needing a expansion board
  12. ok.. at least its not just me But I'm happy it all works... All I need is a NFS server built into the kernel and I'll be a happy man.... Thanks for the help Matt
  13. ahh ok.. well it looks about that ... about 25 mins for 30 gig I am doing.. but looking at the network usage in task manager it does fluctuate wildly from 5% to 25% it seems... I'll try copying back in a while as well... I guess it works then ok.. and this is on unraid 4.2.1 with the Pci express intel network card
  14. ok I have the new pci-e cards installed.. it works but its I'm not sure much speed I should be getting out of it.. Anyone know what I can check on a pc or my unraid ? Cheers Matt
  15. Well as a update I have this card coming this week : http://www.ebuyer.com/product/112344/show_product_specifications It will be running under unraid 4.2.1 .. so heres hoping it works at gig speeds
  16. Hello, I seem to not be the only one here using Unraid servers to server up content to the Tvix Media Players. Thought I would start a thread here to help iron out any issues to make Tvix - > unraid work as smoothly as possible. So far I have a Unraid 4.2.1 (all Sata drives) server along with a Tvix 4100 running the lastest beta 1.3.05RC1 Whilst waiting for NFS to become part of Unraids next version I wanted to try and get it all running as simply as possible. I am trying to play a combination of TS high def files along with 720/1080p mkv video files. Simplest solution for me would be a crossover cable between the unraid and the tvix using samba connections. I tried this last night and found that no TS or 1080p files would play and 720p files gave up after 10 minutes or so. Though from reading the forum it seems I am taking a huge data performance hit using user shares rather than mounting directly to the drives. I'll hopefully try that again tonight. Next then is either using the NFS netshare software on the windows pc.. or trying to get NFS sharing working on the Mac Mini with links through to the unraid (NFS manager has come up as a possible bit of software to use). I would prefer the Mac solution as my mini uses very little power and is on all the time as its the main music library in the house. Anyone had any success with either of the NFS solutions ? Or has anyone got it working directly on the unraid server itself ? Thanks Matt
  17. Just to let you know.. with help from one of the forum members this weekend we got my Unraid working. The Gigabyte motherboard works fine... has 8 sata ports and graphics. But the built in networking does not as it has the realtek chip. So a Intel pci board is needed as well for full compatibility. All in all a very tidy solution
