  1. Yea, not what I would normally do, but I was rushing through it and made a mistake copying in the same config path. Good thing it didn't come back to bite me. Thanks.
  2. At the moment I use NPlayer on my iPads which can video play directly off the unRAID shares thus avoiding the need to install anything at the unRAID end of the link. When playing off network shares become available (as promised for a future release) I will probably switch to the inFuse media player which I already use on my Apple TV.. Investigating these options now. Thanks very much for the tip. The easier the better!
  3. Thanks for the help guys. Apparently I had a weird unknown onboard NIC hardware failure. The amber light was stuck on and I could not for the life of me figure out how to to clear it. Finally was able to get rid of it by pulling the CMOS battery. I never got a chance to try installing unmenu as I don't think I need it currently. I did get about 5TB's of data (movies, music and TV shows) in the array and the guys are loving it. Next up is installing Air Video so we can watch from our iPads.
  4. Thanks for the relies folks. I have some guys watching movies right now so I will work on this tomorrow afternoon while the guys are not in the sleeping area.
  5. Hi folks, I am trying to share my Internet connection on my Windows 7 PC directly with my unraid server so I can install and download unmenu as well as ntfs-3g. I am using a mobile 3g card via usb to connect to the internet. I then share this connection in the adapter settings to the LAN. Once I do this it automatically changes the IP of the LAN adapter to 192.168.137.1 and 255.255.255.0. I then vi'd the network.cfg file in unraid to 192.168.137.2 and 255.255.255.0. No gateway or dns entries and dhcp=no in the .cfg file. The two boxes are directly connected with a cat 5e cable that is good. What is weird is that as I boot up I see the lights initiate on the NIC for the unraid box but as soon as unraid is up it goes blank. No network connection. No lights. Windows 7 shows cable unplugged. What am I missing?
  6. Thanks for the info but I tried those registry tweeks as well as a couple more I found but no luck. Starts out at around 200mbs and goes to 25-29mbs within a minute or so. Very odd. Thanks for the info. I tried to do this initially but I kept getting wrong file system errors with the mount command. I assume that is because I did not have the ntfs-3g package installed. It did show the full capacity of the disc using fdisk though. I will try again once the first disc is finished. Also, I don't know if I see the need to preclear discs with a new system. Format should be good enough I assume. Sounds good. Thanks very much!
  7. Hi folks, I am at my wits end trying to figure this out. Here is my system info: Version: unRAIDServer-5.0-i386 - no plugins Hardware: ASUS P8H77-I LGA 1155 Intel H77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard Intel Core i3-3220 Ivy Bridge 3.3GHz LGA 1155 55W Dual-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2500 BX80637i33220 SILVERSTONE ST45SF 450W SFX12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply G.SKILL 8GB Ripjaws X Series DDR3 1600MHz (2X4GB) HGST 4TB Deskstar Coolspin 3.5" SATA III (4) Seagate 4TB Barracuda 3.5" (1) I have one 4tb drive in the server as a parity drive. Not assigned. I have another 4tb drive in as drive 1. I have three more 4tb drives that are each half full with data that I need to transfer into the array. I have a usb 3.0 docking station that I can use to transfer the data from each drive into the array. As I transfer the data off the drive, I will place the now empty drive into the array and format it for use. Rinse and repeat until all the drives and data are in the system. I have connected the unraid server directly to the laptop via a Cat5e cable (the only one I have out here in Afghanistan). The system is only transferring at 26ish mbs. At this rate I am looking at well over 20 hours per disc to get the data into the array. I initially tried the method listed in the following configuration guide with no success. I could not get the unraid server to mount the drive. http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Configuration_Tutorial Can someone explain why the transfer speed is so slow and how to fix it. Also, if there is a faster way to transfer into the array I am all ears. I have attached my syslog in case it is needed. Thanks in advance for the help. The troops are getting restless as I had hoped to have this up a week ago. Jason syslog.txt
  8. I connected the laptop directly to the unraid box and I am only getting 26mbs. I will start another topic.
  9. Thanks for the info. I do not have access to a crossover cable out here but they are bith GigE so I will give that a try. Yes, my server is up and running perfectly right now. I just want to transfer the data from 3 drives into the array. If I can't get it fixed, I will start a new thread. Sounds good. I'll give it a shot. Thanks!
  10. I am about done with this system. I can't believe this is so difficult to get going. I tried both ways listed in the configuration tutorial to transfer files to the server. The system will not mount the drive using the direct way and when I try and copy over the network it is only copying at 1.7mbs which would take weeks to copy 2tb's of data.
  11. Unraid does not work on the dongle. I use the Dongle on the Windows machine. That is why I do not have internet access on the server. I figured out that the drives are exFat partitioned full of mp4 files. 2TB's of data per drive. There is esata and usb3 connections on the front of the server. I am trying to figure out how I can plug this drive in and transfer the data to the current 4tb drive that is formatted and available. Any suggestions?
  12. Not much I can do about the USB dongle internet access. It is all that is available above 64- 128kbs. I tried to install unmenu on the usb drive but it needs to be run on the server and have access to Googlecode to download. I will research a little more to see if there is another option. I will have to see if the drive formatting is Reiser......once I figure out how to do that.
  13. Definitely the BIOS. I did some digging and apparently unraid does not play well with UEFI Bios. It is completely intermittent though. As soon as I posted, it came up after a few reboots. I will have to see if there is a legacy BIOS option. I was able to get in but ran into another problem. I use a usb dongle for internet access. Unfortunately that means I cannot install unmenu or preclear. I tried both. If someone could let me know if this is correct going forward: I have one 4tb drive in the server as a parity drive. Not assigned. I have another 4tb drive in formatting now. 1. Does that sound like the right way to accomplish this? 2. Technically how can I accomplish this considering I don't have unmenu/screen or preclear? Thanks in advance for the help.
  14. Damn this is crazy. I configured the settings and everything in the web interface and shutdown the server. removed the flash drive and placed the preclear and unmenu files on it. Did not change anything else. Now the server will not boot. Keeps flashing Machine Check Error and looping. I will get back at in tomorrow night. Got PT early in the AM here. By the time I get this thing up and running, we will be getting ready to leave. :-)
