  1. I ran reiserfsck as recommended. Attached is the output from running that command. Recommended next steps?
  2. I am running Unraid 5.05 and have used Unraid for a number of years, but I'm not very good with Linux. I just replaced two smaller drives with larger drives and had no problems (that I can tell). After the second drive was replaced, and the file system rebuilt, I noticed that one of my other disks showed a red ball beside it and had a large number of errors. Looking at the statistics, it appeared that the drive was not even online. I stopped the system, checked the wiring and the disk drive is now up and running, but is showing as unformatted. I have looked at other posts and have rebooted, etc., but it is still showing as unformatted I considered unassigning that drive and rebooting, but before I did anything else, I wanted to check. I'm confident the data is still on the disk and don't won't to format, but I'm also concerned if the data on that disk is part of the parity, or has the Parity been updated as if the data on that disk doesn't exist. Thanks!
  3. 4.5.4 Pro-Thanks for your help-got me pointed in the right direction that it was hardware and not software.
  4. I have been using Unraid for several years, but in February, upgraded several of my home machines to Windows 7 and built a new Unraid server using the SuperMicro MBD-X7SLM Motherboard. Since February, I've been struggling on weekends with a problem where when ripping or copying files (even using Teracopy) the unRaid system would lock down, and I'd have to reboot. I was sure it had something to do with Windows 7, then my Supermicro SATA card, the harddrives, etc. but nothing I tried seemed to work. Finally, after stumbling upon a couple of posts in the forums, I popped in an old PCI GB off-brand NIC card I was no longer using and the problem is solved. I don't know what the problem is with the NIC's on the Supermicro motherboard, but I want to make sure the resolution of this problem gets posted in case anyone else is using this motherboard. I'd also be interested in knowing why the onboard NIC is such a problem. Thanks for everyone's help!
  5. I'm still having problems with Unraid crashing when copying files. Advice from last weekend was that it was a hardware issue. Following is from the start up script. Is this "Warning" message a problem? Thanks! Tower kernel: scst: ***WARNING***: Patch io_context was not applied on your kernel. SCST will be working with not the best performance. 6. Thanks for your suggestions. I was experiencing this problem long before I made any changes to the registry. Just changed the Dword in the Lanman Workstation Settings. Today, I've updated the bios on my motherboard and that didn't fix the problem. All that leaves me is to update the bios on the Sata Card, but I'm not sure which files to use from the installation disk. There are several linux drivers included. I read a post on the forum that talked about how to update the bios and the link to the firmware for the card was for Windows. I am now wondering if that is my problem...the SAS card's firmware is for Windows and not Linux. Any additional help is welcomed! Thanks again for taking the time.
  7. Thank you very much for your input. So it looks like my problem is hardware related. To answer your question, my power supply is an Antec EA-750. I am reattaching a screen shot of my drives and the syslog I attached last night. Any further input would be appreciated. syslog-2010-06-25.txt
  8. The system locks down, can't enter anything on the command line, have to reboot. I have used Teracopy and have considered what you suggest as an alternative, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if and why doing it that way would make any difference if I'm copying from the same Windows 7 machine.
  9. I have been using Unraid for several years without any problems until about 6 months ago when I converted the PC in my home theater to Windows 7. Ever since then, whenever I rip a movie to my Unraid Server, at some point the Unraid system crashes. Sometimes it is the first movie being ripped, sometime it might be the second or third. I have tried everything. Memory tests, hard drive checks, replacement hard drives, setting up a cache drive. I even built a new unRaid server. I've modified the registry in the Windows 7 machine to improve copy speeds. Last week, I came across an article that said that Windows 7 has been known to cause Samba machines on a network to crash. I made the changes to the Windows 7 machine called for in that article with no luck. My system is as follows: Supermicro Motherboard-X7SLM with Intel Celeron 1.8 GHZ LGA775 single core processor and 2GB memory SAS3141B SAS/SATA Backplane Supermicro PCI-E AOC-SASLP-MV8 Harddrives shown on attached screen shot I am attaching the Syslog from this afternoon when the system crashed again. I don't know a lot about Linux and the only time I have to work on this problem is the weekends, and this problem has been all consuming. I hope someone can help. syslog-2010-06-25.txt
  10. Ok-My system MB is a Supermicro MBD-x7slm with an Intel Celeron 1.8 ghz single-core processor and 2gb of corsair memory. I also have installed the Supermicro SAT2-MV8 SATA controller card and a SNT SATA Backplane. I've attached a screen shot of my drives. I have been fighting this problem for several months. At first I thought it was my Windows 7 machine and network, but I've ruled that out. The problem in simple terms is that when ripping new movies to UNRAID the system "hangs" and I have to reboot. If the screen is still available, it won't take a command, "frozen". It also has started happening when we watch a movie, the system "hangs" halfway through the movie. I thought I might have a voltage problem and I did, but I've fixed that and still the problem persists. As a sidebar, I thought the problem was the AAK drive I had and in replacing that I got into the format problem with 4.5.3. I've recovered from that using the reiserfsck procedure to rebuild the data structure and am back working, except for the problem that started everything. The only issue I see is with the 750 gb Samsung drive that used to be my parity. I have run reiserfsck --check and SMART on the disk this morning, but nothing. I have finally captured the Syslog to my flash drive, the system crashed while ripping a DVD, and I am attaching it along with the SMART results and a screen shot of my disks. I hope this is enough information. Thanks in advance for the help. Desktop.zip
  11. I've been using unraid for a number of years and I've never had problems until recently. I believe that one of my problems stems from when I upgraded my 750 gb parity drive with a 1tb drive and then after rebuilding the parity, used the former parity drive as one of the data disks. Of course unraid reformatted the drive, but I notice that it takes a very long time for the 750 gb drive to mount and during the mounting process it has almost as many disk "writes" as the parity drive. Can anyone give me some help on this one? Thanks!
  12. I have used Unraid for several years without a problem until now. I recently upgraded my MB from to a Super Micro. I took the old MB and put it in my HTPC and upgraded to Windows 7. Everything works great until I start to rip a movie to my Unraid server. After just a couple of minutes the rip stops with a message that it can't write, name no longer valid. At that point, Unraid is off the network and I have to restart the network for any machine on the network to see the Unraid server. I've been researching the forum and wiki and I first thought it was a MAC conflict, and removed the appropriate line in my go/config file with no luck. I thought it was a problem with my dhcp/wins server as I am running static IP's, and inserted the nameserver line in the go/config file without any luck. I've read the posts on Vista problems but nothing has worked. I've done this for years using XP without a problem. I'm attaching my syslog...any help is apprciated. Thanks! syslog_20100313.txt
  13. I am new to unRaid, running version 4.2.1 Basic. I have 3 500gb hdd, with disks 2 and 3 having 2 folders--movies; videos. I set these two folder names up in the User share section and chose "High Water" as the method for allocation. The split level was initially set to 0. I have been ripping my DVD's to the movies folder and have created (using windows xp explorer) folders for each movie under the "Movie" folder. I should have paid closer attention, but now the first disk is full, and I can't copy anymore movies. I have searched the forum and have changed the split level to 2 thinking that would solve the problem, but it still tries to copy to the first disk. Should I change the split level to 999 or am I missing something else? I want to keep all the files for a single movie on the same disk for smoother playback. Any suggestions? Thanks!
