  1. I had WD wait a full month before they sent me an advanced RMA. They stated they did not have any drives that were the same size & they had to wait until they aquired more. I vented on this board when that happened a couple of years ago. Here's the link to the original post. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=4485.0 Phil
  2. Damn bjp999 it looks like you must have peed in someones Cherios. I have read several threads were people were mad at you. Or at least misunderstood you. I haven't seen it that way & please don't be discourged by these people. You have always been very helpful & I hope you will continue to be into the future. Phil
  3. Not if you're me and happen to live in Delaware which has two CompUSAs and no sales tax! That'll work...
  4. CompUSA also has the same deal. If you are lucky enough to live by one of their reopened Brick & Mortar stores then you can walk in & get the same deal. No shipping that way but you will have to pay sales tax.
  5. Yowza, I feel your pain I'm only at 4 drives right now, waiting for another to come back from RMA. I have 15 total slots: 3 data, 1 parity, 1 cache (not currently using cache though). I have a long way to go. You'll get there.. lol
  6. This just plain sucks. The last 3 drives that I have purchased have been Hitachi 7200 2TB drives. Rock solid. Will be a shame to see them go.

    Ears format question

His sig states that he is running the Plus version 4.6. Doesn't he need the jumper on the EARS drive with that version of unRAID? Is the Mac format so different that it won't mess up the drive like a Windows format could? Just wondering.. Phil
  8. I answered your question in the Good Deals forum.. The PS you asked about there is a single rail supply with 54 amp output on the single 12 volt rail..
  9. The Corsair 650TX is a great PS. I would keep it if I was you. Plus you bought it at a decent price. Corsair does stand behind their PS's. I have had several Corsair supplies replaced under warranty 3 & 4 years down the road. No questions asked. The pictures on the Egg show the X series supply has a single 12 volt rail rated at 54 amps.
  10. No such thing as a stupid question. Just something you haven't either heard of or learned yet...
  11. Dang bad timing. I just bought 2 used on eBay for 65.00 each shipped. If you still have it after Christmas I may be interested. Phil
  12. On most motherboards it doesn't matter which way you plug in the power switch. There isn't a plus or a negative per say. You can power up your motherboard without the power switch. You just close the contact between both pins. You could use a screw driver or any flat metal. When the power comes on remove the short & you are up & running. Didn't mean to be so long winded on this one. To make a long story short. You are just touching 2 wires together for a second to complete the circuit & the power supply comes on.
  13. Yes you need to jumper pins 7 & 8 on EARS drives in unRAID. Doesn't matter if it is a data, parity or cache drive.
  14. I guess I'll go against popular opinion also. I have a couple of Samsungs & they report their temperature accurately. They read around the same temp as my WD's and Seagate drives. We are not the Norm or Samsung did release a few bad batches of drives. All manufacturers do do that from time to time.
  15. That will do it. Glad you fixed your problem.

    No Parity?

The free licence is good for 2 data & 1 parity drive. 3 drives total.
  17. That is not correct. Data on all the other drives is still readable. If you have eight 2TB drives, you have 8 TB of storage in WHS, versus 14TB in unRAID. If you lose 2 drives in unRAID, the most you lose is 4TB of data on the drives that failed... the other 12TB is still there. I think I understand what he was saying. If you have 2 drive failures in WHS - As long as the data is duplicated on the drives that are still working then you can reconstruct the 2 failed drives since the data is on the other working drives. If you have 2 drive failures in unRaid then the data that was on the 2 failed drives is just lost. Yes the other data is still there on the working drives, but that does not help the failed drives. Been there done that. Phil
  18. I wouldn't worry about it. You can stream a BD folder (uncompressed) thru a 100MB network, much else a gig network. I don't know of a hard drive made that cannot keep up with your network. I regularly stream BD ISO's from IDE drives all of the time. SATA drives have zero problems. Phil
  19. You would get 32 TB of protection. 16 drives times 2 TB. The other 16 drives would be for duplication. I only posted because boof wasn't sure if there was a drive cap in WHS. P.S. I'm not a fanboy of either software. They each have their place. I am running both & yes I do have a Pro license.
  20. I believe that WHS has a 32 drive cap. With 2 TB drives that would give you 64 TB's of storage.
  21. I haven't used this particular drive, but have used several Blue WD drives & have never had a problem. Phil
  22. Never thought about that with the light bulbs. It would definitely test the UPS under load during a power failure. Thanks for the tip.
  23. Either option is great. I have bought several drives from Best Buy. Especially Seagate drives. Their retail drives had a 5 year warranty compared to the 3 year warranty of their OEM drives. I did get a few DOA drives from them & they replaced them at the store. No questions asked. Concerning the Gig switch. That is a good choice also. I always considered 100MB network plenty fast. Tried a Gig switch and never looked back. Much faster. Do whatever makes you happy. After all it is your money..
