  1. Thanks, so much, for the info. Not trying to further derail your thread, but is this W1333EX16G kit(2 kits needed for 32GB total, of course) the correct product you bought? I'm asking since this board can be picky and 32GB would be the max with this board, so I'd like something unRAID user tested. BTW, I currently use 2 of the same KVR1333D3E9SK2/8G kits as you for 16GB total in the same board.
  2. I never planned on posting in this thread, since it seems to generally not be productive. However I just wished to thank all the kind people on this forum, for all you do.... Helpfull posts, plugins, hardware suggestions, and deals. Of course this absolutely includes Tom, of Limetech. I can't even begin to imagine the effort he has put into UnRaid, over all these years. I do understand that most of the issues with Ver 5.x have been(IMHO) with the kernal and largely caused by supporting additional hardware configurations. Still I'm happy with my purchase even at this point, nearly 2 years later. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to minimize ANYONE's veiws/issues, etc. I must admit atleast 2 times(a little under a year ago) I seriously looked at possible alternatives, but nothing out there does what UNRAID does, and does all that I want. My only concern is that Ver5.0 stays feature frozen so an official stable is there for the plugin makers to build for. Leave anything but bugs for 5.1, IMHO. So, in the end... I'm still here using UnRaid and overall happy. In the end I'm sure, in time, things will work out great for the community. My opinion means nothing more that anyone else's, but I just wanted to let the community know there are still happy/hopefull users out here. I may be an optimist, but I just can't see such a great product and userbase not succeeding. It's just a matter of time. <<<please take as a joke<<< Peace and may a finished V5 greet us all soon, /justme
  3. Thanks for the heads, I too never heard of this product(simple ie not an multimeter/oscilloscope and yet, still largely feature complete). I'm hoping it won't really be needed, but I'm still going to get one... Mainly for testing for rebates, as suggested. /justme
  4. UPDATE It's currently(as of this post) a Shell Shocker for 17.99 shipped. See below for a possible small extra savings. YMMV on this 10% off part: I just got one for 16.19 total using a 10% off (external enclosures)promo code. The code may not work for you, as it's one of those loyalty codes you get after making a recent purchase. However, sometimes they do work for some people's accounts and 10% off is better than nothing. The code I used was: EMCJJGK24 Good luck, justme
  5. Thanks for the tip. I can definitely use this with our @#$! local electric grid. My LCD TV is very twitchy about variations or even short(.5 second) outages, even when I had it hooked up to an older CyberPower UPC. Up til buying this I was using a high end APC UPC(computer version) to avoid outages. Now, this will free up that unit for a PC.
  6. I have one of these great MBs. I love it, IPMI is awesome. Unfortunately I whimsically bought one NIB, at close to normal price, under the effects of pain meds. :'( I plan to basically follow Johnm's ATLAS path, eventually... I'm a lot sidetracked on other(real life) things first right now. Still I'd definitely grab one of these if I was planing a new build.
  7. Mine did not work "properly" with UnRaid when I was doing early testing, but keep in mind I'm a newb. UnRaid doesn't do a "clean" shutdown if the outage lasts longer than the UPC's battery. I can't remember the version of Unraid, but I'm almost 99% certian it was pre 4.7 and likely 4.5. I ended up switching my UPCs around so UnRaid would have a APC unit. BTW, On my unit you CAN replace the battery. It's accessable thru a door on the bottom of the unit. It's a pain since it's covered by 4 screws and a locking mechanism. The ease of access, is probably not that big a deal for normal usage... But it was a pain in the @$$ to verify that this was the battery access, for this post. It didn't check recent prices on replacement batteries, but... In my experience(with past units of both brands) CyberPower has lower costs to replace batteries than APC. Cyberpower tries to design around fewer models of batteries, and double(or maybe more) up for higher capacities, before they step up to the next larger battery. Hope this helps. /justme
  8. Thanks for letting me know they were back in stock. I was after these for a non UnRaid build(host for Virtual machines) 2 days ago. I tried to buy 2 sets(8GB=$40 after MIR) with a AMD MB and AMD 6core CPU. Whole thing came out to just under $250 after MIRs and NewEgg loyalty coupons(tied to my account, sorry). Unfortunately I did some more looking before checking out, and when I hit checkout the Memory was gone. I got unpset and looked around for some good deals, didn't see any so... I decided to get the MB and CPU. In the meantime the MB had sold out. Worse they put(it had crossed midnight PST) a special gift(some stupid game) on the 6core CPU, that made my loyalty coupon invalid for it. At least I'll get the memory. /justme
  9. Yep. Gone again, for me too. Fortunately I did place an order(around noon EST) and got an email confirmation. dyrewolfe , What address did you send the email to? Should I just reply to my order confirmation. I tried to do a chat, just now, from their site and it seemed to fail. I just got a copy(at my email address) of my chat text, and it said something about a fail "When you were offline (via LivePerson)". As for cables... I got my 8087 to 8087(Norco brand .5M) on an old(monthes ago) sale from NewEgg. I got 5 at the time. 2 for my 1st AOC-SASLP-MV8, 2 for a 2nd I planned to buy(this card will replace that plan), and 1 as a spare/test cable. They were ~$13 with shipping included. I think because I purchased them with something huge/heavy. As far as the breakout cable go... I was only looking at "reverse"(MB's 4 sata headers to one of my Norco's SAS backplanes) breakout cables til now, since I was shopping for my Norco 4220. I'm just suprised how much more a "forward"(..87 to 4 sata harddrives) cable costs. I'll be on the look out for deals, since I'll need forward breakout cables now(2nd nonNorco server). I'll post any links I find with total prices(including S+H) cheaper than those you guys already put up. EDIT>> Amazon.com has 3ware .6 meter forward breakout cables for $18.60 total(if you buy 2 to get over the $25 for free S+H).<<EDIT peace, /justme
  10. I'd get another if I could get my $5 off coupon code "BC3D46B1", to work. The coupon shows as active in "my account". The terms say it's not valid on previous purchases, but I thought that meant retro-active... But I guess it means future orders of the same item. I looked for SFF8087 to SFF8087, or SFF8087 to 4xSATA cables to add to the cart, but they all appeared backordered. Oh well, knowing me I'll likely give in sometime today. Because between 2 of these and my AOC-SASLP-MV8, I could max out my Norco 4220 AND have a sweet data redundacy server(considering WHS or ZFS based box, at the momemt). BTW: We need to find a cheaper source of SAS cables. Both ..87to87 and ..87toSATA. Shipping and handling shouldn't be as much as most sites charge. I have what I need for my current UnRaid build, but I'll need more to do the redundant server. I would say "thanks", to you, dyrewolfe... But you likely just caused me to spend money, I hadn't planned too. peace, /justme
  11. Please do update when you receive your card. I ordered another one this morning. Hopefully they all come from the same lot. I got my card. Unfortunately no pictures(camera is evil today, and I'm tired).Still... The inner(not shipping) box(8.5"Wx6"Dx1.5"H) is brown with a white label. The label has big barcode in upper left with the "44E8689" part # right below it. The part desciption reads "IBM SERVERAID BR10I SAS/SATA CARD". In the lower right the label says "REPACKAGED IN THE USA". The card itself is in a folded anti-stitic bag that looks like it could've been hand done, ableit nicely done(clean cut). Barely sealed with the usual big yellow sticker. The card is the type with the 2 SFF connectors pointing upwards from a notch cut in the end of the card. It has a mounting bracket with the LED indicators. The card looks to be new, to my eyes. I did look for signs of wear or cleaning, but didn't see anything obvious. The front has all 3 stickers. The first(white) one says: "SAS3082E-R L3-25116-01H" The back of the card has a small sticker with a long barcode and what may be a serial#. Below that it says " FRU 44E8690 EC: L06166 Made in THAILAND 2010-02-26" So it seem relatively new, based on the date. If I left any needed info out just ask and I'll edit the post. It's just I'm tired now and am going to try and get some sleep. Peace, justme
  12. Mine hasn't come yet, but it's out for delivery. I'll post details ASAP. Hopefully pictures too, but no promises on those. queeg, Good luck on your attempt to get your 3rd, at the original price. Anyone, I have a question about serversupply.com and part #s for this card... What is the difference between the 44E8688, 44E8689, and the 44E8690, other than price? I found the other #s by clicking serversupply's "All of this Type" link. They all seem to have the same details to my old eyes. Also it seems like when you follow this link for the 44E8690 version, it list for $65. But if you just add to cart(don't do any lookups/detailed info, etc. first) it shows up as $62 with free shipping(lower 48). I discovered the link while researching these cards. I found the link(to serversupply) at this page at www2.shopping.com. Is this just the store's way of having a "under the radar" sale? Sorry, I don't mean to derail this thread. Mods feel free to move the "anyone" section if you want. I was just thinking that if the $44.45 were all gone/marked up... This 44E8690, for $62, might be the next best thing. /justme
  13. Despite what I said above... I did break down(I always do) and order one. I did it over concerns, of possible price increases, when/if UnRaid 5.x fully supports it. Also, thanks to some research, I found it does work with some of the alternative software I'm looking at for my data redundancy server. My card will arrive on Fri(according to Fedex), but I find my Fedex shipments often come a day early. Unfortunately I don't have a system(mainly spare MB) to test out the card in right now. Still when it arrives I'll post with details on the quality(shipping, appears new/used,etc) I can see with my eyes. I'm curious how closely mine will resemble dyrewolfe's, given I bought from the same source. BTW they are down to 86 left in stock, Get 'em soon. If anyone wants to know something particuliar ask. I'll do my best to answer, given my current hardware situation. I'm no photographer, but I'll see if I can post some unboxing shots. /justme
  14. Wow, thanks for the great info(good read) and advice. I think I'll take queeg's advice, and just sit it out for now. Glad I ask before I jumped, as I'm not even using/testing the 5.x betas. I'm going 4.7. Still, that price caught my attention. /justme
  15. For a basic UnRaid newbie, like me... How would this compare to the AOC-SASLP-MV8? Slower/faster bandwidth(total/per port)? Anything special about PCIe slot, or other compatibity issues, when used on a SUPERMICRO MBD-C2SEE-O motherboard? I'm considering getting one of these to simplify cabling in my Norco 4220 case. I'm currently using 2 reverse breakout cables and 2(Silicon Image SIL3132) cards along with my MB's onboard SATA ports. That is the most likely scenario for this card if I got it. OR I may use it in new supercheap build, with 2nd license, as a data backup solution. Not sure about that part as I'm even considering other software for the data redundancy server. Any feedback would be appreciated, /justme
  16. I just ordered a second one(ordrered 1st last night at $79). It hasn't been charged to my CC(same as 1st order) yet, but we'll see. I also called NewEgg and they gave me $10 back(NewEgg rocks for this kind of thing) for the drive last night. I did this BEFORE placing the new order. So the only hurdle now is the rebate, since I'll have 2 reciepts. /justme EDIT>>They voided the 2nd order. Oh well, I'll just do what chooch suggests. I keep a 2nd account(different CC) in my wife's name for such issue's<<EDIT
  17. I can't personally verify this myself, but according to Slickdeals this drive will sell for $60(after rebate) after 1PM today(Tuesday). I'm guessing that's PST and likely is going to be a Shell Shocker. Just wanted to let those know who may be interested, to keep an eye out. As for me I'm already on the hook for one, but I'm pretty sure NewEgg will adjust the price(If this deal does materialize). If they won't adjust the price, I'll just re-order at the lower price and refuse the shipment(of the 1st order). Still I don't see that happening, as this deal(original in this thread) and the new(1PM) deal are both popular. So alot of other people would get the same idea, and that would cost NewEgg alot in shipping. Better to just price match those who ordered on the 7th. Heck, I may even get a second drive at the $60AR price. Rebate limits to 2, but $120AR for 4TB isn't bad. Anyway, who knows what will happen... EDIT>>NewEgg issued me a $10 credit, with less than a minute on the phone. I love NewEgg service<<EDIT peace, /justme
  18. Thanks for the heads up on the $10 rebate. It pushed me over the edge and I just got one. Luckily the Newegg $20 off code still worked at 1:13AM. I guess it's because I'm EST and they're likely PST. Whatever, no complants, I like money back and ~$70 total is a nice price. I'm pretty sure the $10 rebate will work since, they will be getting the original UPC/serial #. That's usually the biggest issue, in my experience.
  19. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I went with Josh's Scythe S-Flex suggestions for the 120mm fans and used prostuff1's(found in this thread) 80mm Kama Flow2 fans. Actually it's identical to prostuff1's except for using the SH(higher speed) version over the H(good, but OOS) for the 120mm fans. I'll likely look into toning down the 120s, so they aren't as loud, given my needs. squirrellydw, I really loved the Noctua NF-P12-1300 and have looked at the brand before, for all(both 120 and 80) fans. But the price was just too much. :'( Whole setup came to just over $44.50 total for all 5 fans, thanks to the 120s dropping to ~ $9each(for 3+ ordered). Thanx, /justme
  20. jeff.lebowski or anyone, Would that model be a good choice for my Norco 4220? I bought the Norco brand fan backplane/mount for 3 120mm fans. I really want to replace the 4 screamers(haven't swapped fan mounts yet) in that case, with something fairly quiet. I'm going with 8 drives for start, but will likely go up to ~16(mostly green). Very unlikely I'll ever fill all the drive bays, but I wanted the option if I ever decided to. I know I need a high CFM but not sure how high. Also few fan's specs list their static pressure performance, which I realize is important in the Norco case's setup. I haven't done this til now, due to money, but this seems like the right time to get some fans PS: Any advise on suitable quieter replacements for the rear 80mm fans, would be awesome too. Thanks for any help/advise. /justme
  21. Thanks guys. I grabbed two as spares. At this price, I'll gladly use a zip-tie for the slack.
  22. Sorry for posting right after myself. But after posting all my problems, I didn't feel a simple edit was best. So I got my 2 APC units. I had to hire(feed) my cousin to take me to the nearest Office Depot. It's about ~30 miles(as the crow flies), 50miles(by the shortest road route), and well over 1 hour one way. Good news is Pat(the manager of Leesburg,Va) OD is a great guy. I called OD(800#) and they put Pat on the phone and he was cool. He had it all waiting for me and was polite and even helped me find a keyboard to replace my old one. So I hold no ill will towards OD brick@mortar... Web is another issue, but even there it's with their higher ups that won't do what they promised. So 6 weeks after I ordered, at least 6 order numbers(really 9, since they updated,cancelled,re-instated 1 order), over $1000 in CC charges(only ~$300 legit), consuming(read losing) a $30 gift card, countless phone calls(~5 minute average each, but as long as 1 hr), 1.5 pages of notes from calls/issues, over ~2.5 hrs driving, and nearly 20hrs sleeping(pain/medication induced) off my migraine(likely due mostly to the driving trip, but to be fair I'm on SSD for a reason)... I have what I started out to get. All that's left is for OD to admit(stop fighting) that they overcharged me ~ $144(acccording to the calculations of my credit card companies' despute agent) in the "process" of getting these uinits. Good news is my CC has already creditted me the money back, and put a hold on OD for my account. So I'll drop this tale here as I've hijacked this thread too much already. Thanks to the OP for pointing out this deal, and I mean that in an honest way, no sarcasm involved. Thanks to all who posted about how they got their unit(ie store pickup). Thanks to those who posted when they made progress, etc. /peace
  23. Well an update in my never ending saga to get a APC UPS... I checked my account(online via OfficeDepot's site) and it showed my 1st(2 APC units) order as shipped. This was good since it meant they should arrive tommorrow, as the invoice stated. However upon looking closer I noticed some strange things, like the order being for $0. I then clicked on tracking and it said delivered. I called OD CS and talked to Lisa... I've been taking names and making notes of all calls for about the last 3 weeks. Lisa explained my order was cancelled. I explained to her my whole ordeal, including how this was now definitely a bait and switch(paid $200 for 1 equivalant unit when I was offered/ordered 2 @ $100 each). To my, suprise Lisa was great. She immediately re-ordered my order(new order and #) and made sure when they would be in stock. She saw they were priced at $199 and immediately placed a coupon credit of $200 on my order. So now the units should come by the 10th. I asked her what if they didn't and she said she was sending me an email with all the info from my call. In other words, I should call her and she would give me options... I told her I'd just prefer to have it turned into a store pickup. She agreed and said if I had any trouble it would be done. She even enrolled me over the phone into their rewards program and got me credited for all these orders, price matches(keep in mind only this order was a real pricematch), and re-orders. In general she was great and far more knowledgable than most of the people I've talked to who are supposed to be above her... RANT>>>Which all seem to have an Indian(sub-continant) accent and know nothing of customer service or etiquette. Not that I'm blaming a group, just that escalating seems to lead me to people who know less(about their own products and policies) and often can't understand me(although this may be my fault ). Office Depot should promote people like Lisa rather than outsourcing, or at least ensure they are trained properly. <<<RANT I feel like I'm almost there. (fingers-crossed) All that's left after I get these units is the $218 despute over the equivalant price-match unit. Ohhh and now the $30 dollar Office Depot gift card that was consumed(used) in the order that was cancelled. Appearantly I was supposed to hold onto it over all these weeks, even though it was used up on the 2 APC order. Appearantly they(OD) can't get the full number back(just the last 4 digits) even thou it shows up as a $30 credit along with my credit card on the cancelled order. So maybe some lucky garbage person will find the two halves(I cut it up before throwing away) and use it. Someone should get the $30 rather than it just literally being thrown away. /peace
  24. Thanks for the leads. I'll fully look into them ASAP, feeling a little sleepy right now. I'm a big fan of .sfv files(especially recursively down dir trees) and used them before(in Windows) I ever found UnRaid. Mostly for any large size/number file copies, copying over networks, and anything backed up to optical disc. Looks like I was only using a little(detecting corruption) of the potential(detect/fix corruption) of this type of tech. If I need any help I'll post in the proper forum. Peace, Michael
  25. I don't wish to side track the thread, but... I'm familiar with .sfv tools(to verify), but not recoverery or general ECC tools. Can you send me a link to the tools/info on your setup. I'd like something like this. I got interested in catching corruption(and the tools to catch it) after reading the "whatever happened to Q parity" thread on these forums. That was a great thread, I'd love to see some of the ideas there implemented(WeeboTech's as a seperate tool, but ideally column/row parity built into unraid even tho it could add another parity drive to the array). Thanks, Michael
