  1. Seems everything that is rackmount is a little more expensive.. I think I got mine through Amazon for about $130. Makes organizing and expandibilty a whole lot easier I went with a 2 post rack. Just have to watch how deep the server cases are. I try to go for half depth cases. I wait for Newegg deals on 4u cases that I can get for about $100. The next tme I need to add more drive bays Ill be looking more into this case with 6 external 5.25 bays; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811165215 What I wouldnt give for a rack mount, half depth case with 9 external 5.25 drive bays.... Link for 2post rack http://www.startech.com/Server-Management/Racks/DuraRak-42U-2-Post-Open-Telco-Rack~2POSTRACK

  3. They only time I have ever turned on qos is when i had a voip phone. I do throttle the bandwidth to certain computers on my network and I did that all through my dual wan router. I have bound the CM to ip for my servers and my own equipment and then a ip range that is open to other computers. That range will only have 1mb down and 256kbps upload.
  4. Down in the cold evil dark basement sitting in the comfy rack along with the security video server, and everything else...Stays about 60 year round along with a dehumidifier running..
  5. Since they are slower then the rest of the drives they are not uses with the movies or music shares I have set up
  6. This is crazy. I purcashed 2x WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb from newegg on 9-24-2010 when they were 89.99 and free shipping and now they want $200 for them. I was lookin at getting a few more and seen the price and thought.. must be a darn good drive so they jumped the price up on em big time. (still a dam good drive)
  7. Thought I would chime in on this 1 since I can kind of relate. I needed to put 2 ip security cameras upstairs but no cabling available and this would be just for testing untill the cameras were put outside into housings.. I wanted to stress the cameras and equipment before installing them in there final places. I have a zoom4400 access point connected directly to my router. The zoom has no dhcp because the router is taking care of this. (I might add this has been a great product.. 2 reboots in the past year (on ups)). This is located in the basement. 2nd floor has a Motorola cb3000 wireless ethernet bridge. This has 1 ethernet port- no problem. I connected a cheap 5 port switch to it and then 2 tp-ip100 ip security cameras. These have been working great streaming live video from the cameras.. Now i have yet to have issues with the cd3000.. far warning, I bought it brand new from Ebay. Was still sealed in the package. Motorola's driver support costs $$. I have yet to have a issue with the firmware that it came with so it aint broke. If you have the ability to run cat5 upstairs then it might be worth it go that route. Cat5 cabling upstairs going to a switch then to a wireless ethernet bridge.. But then after you spend the time and money purchasing everything and setting it up it may have been better to drop a cat5 cable out of a window....
  8. I already got the drives. 1 of them is in use in my video secuity server, I might re-do it and use them both. Regardless I have a a WD640, a 500, and a few others that are 250 and below that are either ata or sata. As far as the 5 in 3 drive cages I have yet to see 1 that is 6gb compatible- really doesnt matter, I have a 4u chassis that can fit 14 drives if needbe. I can get the motherboard new for about $50 and the E7500 cpu for about $100 and also 2 gig of ram

The mobo will be able to give me another 8 drives in the future along with the 1 leftover port on the controller card. Would there be any compatibility issues with using the controller cards and would there be a improvement on the data transfer speeds over my network?
