  1. Hi, is it possible to run two aoc saslp-mv8 sata cards in the Asus F1A75-V Pro board? Cheers, Chris
  2. Thanks for your answers. BobPhoenix, with 'no' you mean that you have configured the reds with no spin down, as always 'on'?
  3. I recently bought a WD30EFRX drive for my unRAID server. Should I disable the automatic spin down for this drive? I think these drives are designed to run 24/7, and it might be not good to send these drives to sleep mode so often. How did you guys configure your WD reds withh respect to "spin down"? Cheers, Chris
  4. ... will check the exact numbers and then I report back.
  5. ... biggest issue are Time Machine Backups, which are really slow. And the mounting of shares on a remote computer is also very slow. Write and read speeds could also be better. Chris
  6. Hi all, I'm using unRAID for more than two years now and I really love it. My server is based on a Supermicro C2SEE, Celeron 2.5 GHz processor, 4gb of ram and and a saslp card. Currently the array has a size of 25TB. However, I the system is not very responsive, even with a cache drive. It's kind of slow. That's why I was thinking about an upgrade to a newer mainboard / cpu combination with more power. Do you think an F1A75-V with an A8 quad core processor will speed up the server? Cheers, Chris
  7. Morning, I bought a new 3TB drive for my unraid server in order to use it as exclusive TM drive. I would like to backup two Macs on it. Hence, I created two different new user shares for that purpose according to the settings you mentioned above. Both new shares are restricted to that one disk. My question is, how can I set a maximum size for one of the two new shares? One of the new shares should not grow bigger than 500gb, the rest of the hard drive should be used for the second share. Hope someone can help me with an answer. Best wishes, Chris
  8. ... but if the network would cause the problems also the movie playback from discs 1 to 9 would be effected. But only disc 10 causes the problems and shows the high %wa during the first minute of a started movie playback. Chris
  9. ... and I have to add: Yesterday I configured the LAN as 100Mb in order to see if the buffering is influenced by that. I had the feeling that I see it less frequently, but it's still there. Anyhow, I looked for dropped packets this morning. I used the server quite a bit yesterday, so this log is based on more network traffic: root@Neon:~# ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:30:48:b2:0f:e6 inet addr:192.168.1.120 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:8051675 errors:0 dropped:27 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:15119121 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:572095857 (545.5 MiB) TX bytes:4000581494 (3.7 GiB) Interrupt:43 Base address:0x8000 27 dropped packets. I guess in 1000Mb moder the rate would have been even higher, wouldn't it? Chris
  10. Hi, I've finished preparing the smart reports: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/7782292/smart_disc_10_long.txt https://dl.dropbox.com/u/7782292/smart_disc_10_short.txt To me the results looks like as if the disc is okay. What else can I do? Chris
  11. I think I can exclude a cable causing the issues. I swapped the drive to a different bay (I'm using Supermicro's CSE-M35 enclosures), and that doesn't help either. Here is a log file: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/7782292/log.rtf It was recorded during two buffering events. However, during the time the buffering happened no entries were made in the log. In other words, the buffering occurred in the 5 minutes after the last log entry. As mentioned before, during that time I observed high %wa values, and it seems to happen when the movie file is opened for the first time after a reboot. The 2nd try to play the same movie from the beginning works without buffering, and %wa stays low. I will also generate a smart-report in the next hours. Thanks for your help, Chris
  12. I did some more testing. It seems that the prob occurs only with one disc. The movie data seems to be okay, since the problem is not always reproducible. I guess the hard drive has a problem then. However, the "smart view" page of unMenu doesn't show any problems for this disc. Probably I have to replace it nevertheless. Chris
  13. ... worked. Thanks! I think during buffering I observe high %wa values. Goes down again after buffering is complete. But in general, the processor is more than 97% idle during streaming, even in high bit rate sequences. The buffering issue seems to be more frequent directly after starting the movie playback, lets say in the first 2 minutes. Chris
  14. 'top' doesn't work. I get an error message that it's the wrong terminal type. Chris
  15. Thanks, now I understand. Didn't know that these are counters. What I did now: I restarted the server, played some movie files, had two buffering events, then I ran ifconfig: ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:30:48:b2:0f:e6 inet addr:192.168.1.120 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:856065 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:1684814 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:60593497 (57.7 MiB) TX bytes:2376662192 (2.2 GiB) Interrupt:43 Base address:0x8000 ... no dropped packets during the buffering. Hence, it doesn't seem to be a network problem. ? Chris
