  1. Yeah i reset my router ages ago and forgot to reapply wifi security. Awesome. I'm really hoping that this virus tried to spread itself automatically to anything it would find on the network (IE my server) and wasn't discovered by a nearby neighbor who's tech savvy.
  2. Alright i deleted the password files off my flash drive and that did the trick. I had to redo my shares and everything but it's all restored to the way things were before this all took place. I made a backup off the flash drive before deleting anything and compared the files on it to that of a fresh download from the website. Nothing seems out of the ordinary to indicate i was hacked or anything. Though of note there was one file called '!Readme.Exe' at the root of the directory that seemed shady. It has appeared in the past and i deleted it, is this something generated by unRaid or should i assume i've been hacked?
  3. As of last night everything was working fine with my NAS. I woke up today when i fired up my desktop PC it was unable to connect to the mapped network drive as it has done thousands of times in the past automatically. My next move was to check for issues by connecting to //Tower in my web browser. I was prompt for a password for the first time ever. 'root' did not work either. Next i checked my network to see if Tower was still being picked up, which it was. I do notice that my shares are missing now and only 'disk1' and 'disk2' are there, and i'm able to access them just fine. This is a pretty weird situation for me, what would case shares to go missing and a password to appear on my //Tower page? Maybe the flash drive died, but then would i still be able to access disk1 and disk2 like i am? Any help would be great guys.
  4. Thank you very much for that feedback. Before i was just looking at my network groups, now i have it mapped and can quickly see how much free space is on hand versus what is used. It's a small thing but i wanted it. As for my errors they seem to have ... fixed themselves? After a power down and reboot there are no disk errors. It may just be that i need to do a new parity check for them to show up again.
  5. Looks like it's all set up now. My only beef is that it doesn't seem to have the ability to check properties and see how much free space is left like a normal folder. I'm trying to make it act as closely as a folder as possible for family / friends. But it shouldn't be much of an issue. Also according to the management page i have like 288 errors on one of my data disks. But the array is acting completely normal. Reading and writing just fine. Should i be alarmed? Is there such thing as a minor error ... ?
  6. I would like to have it act merely as a folder on my desktop. Double click it and it opens up as any local folder would. I'm running Vista on this machine and my nettops will be running Windows 7. I'll try playing with workgroup names a little bit.
  7. I built the server, i waited for it to build parity and now it's finally done, but i can't fathom for the life of me how to access my new free space on the network. I searched the Wiki but i guess it' assumes people using Unraid have networking experience Any help would be great.
  8. I Vote the Asus M4A785-M for the new budget build motherboard. They can be had for roughly $60 and when matched with a dirt cheap Sempron you have Mobo and CPU for less than $100.
  9. Hmmm. Okay that will be more than enough for my home server. I've decided to go with an Antec 300 instead of the CM590 since i can get it locally from a shop here and save 30 dollars That's bring the total cost of the system to less than $300 CAD before HDDs. Woot.
  10. Okay sorry to make another topic so soon but i am finalizing my my build and I'm going into over drive here. I currently have a 10/100 Router (An old Linksys WRT54G). I currently have a gaming PC with a GigE onboard and my new Unraid will have GigE onboard as well (duh). I'm a bit weak when it comes to networking so i'll ask you experts here. Do i need a Gigabit router, Gigabit switch, or both to get max write speeds? Answers, as well as suggestion for hardware (on a budget ) would be great.
  11. Thank you for the heads up on the RAM. I don't fully understand it but It's no skin off my back as the price is the same for the more stable version. How many HDDS can my PSU support (520W) do you guys think? Assuming WD2TB Green-EARS for all HDDs.
  12. Hey guys, Really excited to do my first Unraid build, ultimately i'll be using it with XBMC and one or two Asrock 330HTs. Before i go ahead and order the following parts i just wanted to make sure I didn't do anything stupid hardware wise. I'm fairly certain the parts I'm going with are pefect for starting off and will also let me expand in the future. Note that I will be picking up some HDDs later on. PSU - Antec NEO ECO 520C 520W - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371030 Case - COOLER MASTER Centurion 590 - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119152 RAM - OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (2 x 1GB) - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227139 Mobo - ASUS M4A785-M - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131595 CPU - AMD Sempron 145 - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103888 $321.81 CAD Shipped. PSU should be good for future expansions, I can throw another 2GB (2x1GB) or 4GB (2x2GB) in the mobo if required in the future. Should be good right? Other than the HDDs, and the lack of an internal USB port, i think it's solid. What say you?
