  1. Hi Had this docker up and running for a while with no problems with Nextcloud etc and I'm now wanting to host a WordPress site. I can navigate and have it present index.html located in the letsencrypt www folder however if I try to put index.php file in the folder the browser tries to download the file instead of serving up a page. Is this expected, do I need to configure something to have php pages? Thanks
  2. I can seeing this being problematical to manage since the license is tied to a particular USB stick. However sine the transfer of the license to a new stick has been made so easy this is almost certainly sufficient when one takes into account that we see a very low incidence of people having their USB stick fail (although it does happen occsionally). At one point unRAID offered a very good deal if you bought two licenses together and I think a lot of people took advantage of this to get an extra license that could be used in a test server, or as a backup. There was also a special offer during most of the v6 beta cycle where existing users could buy an additional license for a vary good price ($30) to help with having an additional license for testing v6 while still running v5 on their main server. Whether such an offer is ever likely to be repeated I have no idea but it might be worth keeping a lookout when the next beta cycle starts. I can see why with the current model it isn't ideal to buy a backup (both full price for home users and discounted version from Lime Tech's perspective). One possible way around that could be having a free 'backup' license with every license purchased which will work in a system that is licensed. Something like: - Server is licensed with full version - Backup USB is plugged in and key issued - Backup is valid so long as it can see a licensed version installed on server in past x days - Server can be booted to backup USB when primary fails but will stop working after x days unless production USB found again - User then has x days to get a replacement USB and key issued until backup USB stops or goes into restricted functionality Something like above would keep everything legit $ wise while also allowing users to have a backup USB should primary fail. I guess from my perspective especially with V6 is that UnRaid is going to replace NAS, Desktop, HTPC etc and the USB could bring the household down to a standstill (yes first world problems lol). Anyway just a suggestion in case it is something that is being considered. Fantastic system, loved using virtualisation for past 10 years but direct I/O in UnRaid has made me rethink how our house PC needs are handled.
  3. Thanks! That seems to have the system working properly again, doesn't give me much faith in the USB stick Which bit did you have to do - just let windows fix the drive or re-copy some files? However if you went through a tidy shutdown process neither should have been required. unRAID v6 makes it easy via an automated process to move your license to another USB drive (once per year at least) if you decide you want to switch to another USB stick. Just windows repair. I thought it had gone through a clean shutdown, stopped array and then shutdown all via WebGUI. It was off afterwards so I have no idea if something else went wrong. Interestingly though after booting it up the array was on and doing a parity check, if memory serves me right the array is normally off when first booted up? What would be great if could have 2 USB stick in server replicated so if one fails the 2nd can be used. I think this is what FreeNAS does. Just makes things bit more reliable and gives some piece of mind to users. Good to know about changing keys, might look at getting one of the recommended USB sticks. I've only been using it for a couple of weeks (although used it many years ago), so still getting up to speed.

  5. I shut down my machine today and when I rebooted it I get a black screen with boot: prompt and message says "no configuration file found" I have plugged the USB stick into windows machine and Win telling me something wrong with USB would I like to scan (I haven't yet as didn't want to risk making things worse)? I can see and open files on the USB but cannot copy the files off (copy/paste does nothing). Any ideas would be very much appreciated.
  6. Had a quick skim over this and looks excellent that it is now up and running. You mentioned not being able to distribute (sorry not up to speed on these things) but isnt VMServer free to download? So what stops you from releasing it? Anyway great work. I'm extremely snowed under with work at the moment but been looking forward for someone to get this working so I will try and get some time this week to get it testing on one of my systems. (thankfully sleep is overrated )
  7. Looking very promising. Having good storage solution while being able to serve up website etc on same box would be awesome. Is this running off hard drives now not USB stick? Oh and congratz on 100 posts!
  8. Cheers Phil. I'm getting my old router back in weekend so will see if it has bridge mode and set it up.
  9. Noticed people are trying to get vmware installed on unRAID system. Where are people at with this? I have next to no technical knowledge of linux so wouldnt even know where to start but would be very keen to get vm's running on that machine and get rid of a couple of other ones (anyone reading my other threads yes I would be forced to have to have wired network then ) If people have got it going and have either a rebuilt unraid package or good instructions it get vmware up and running I would a very grateful man.
  10. Thanks guys I'm not surprised that the wireless would be stripped down as not to many applications would be ok with such low data transfer speeds and attaching a wireless router to connect with main network is quite acceptable. I will go with the wireless router for the mean time as all I really want is some off site type backups that are quite small in size as majority of data is already on the server. Will look at the power adapter idea but when have the time will probably try and wire in some cat cables on the cheap as the power adapter would probably come obsolete when move as with bit of luck will be buying house and then it will be a house rewire and can use the cat wire.
  11. I have been thinking that might be a better option. Backups are small mainly any docs, photos, etc that have been working on. as I get money to get more drives this will increase to multimedia but that is down the track.
  12. Speed at this stage would not be a problem as its primarly used for backups which runs in the background. If setting up WPA for example how do I go about letting unRAID know what key to use etc? Do I add something in the network config file?
  13. I have been using unRAID at home for a while but would like to put the box out in the garage. Since I have all the networking gear in the house which is seperate from the garage is it possible to use wireless NIC's with unRAID? As I'm in a rental its a not really an option running network cables around the place (although not completely out of the question). If it is being done what are tested cards? Cheers
  14. Thanks guys. I'd rather you rant then not letting me know your opinion on things the more the better. They do have DVD copies as soon as they off load from camera and take offsite every night. Also give a copy to their customers and state that they are not responsible to holding their data BUT as a professional look they want to have that data available should any customer in the future ask for another copy of anything. Anyway at this stage unRAID will suit them perfectly I have ordered a system so should have that up and running by the end of the week. They also have some external USB drives so we will look at maybe setting that up to backup the lastest or most important data (ie weddings where some commercial photos can be retaken if all turned to crap). Anyway thanks for all the input I will be doing more research on tape, multiple unRAIDs etc to come up with some alternative solutions for customers.
  15. Thanks guys good points. Also some obvious ones! I should post after I have had morning coffee Back to unRAID it is then. All sorted so build will happen next week. Cheers for all the comments.
  16. Another question. The company is thinking that they would slowly fill up the 7 slots available (7x1Terabyte drives) and once fill then remove the oldest ones and take and store the drive offline in safe or whatever. Would be at least 3 years old. I'm now wandering if Unraid would be the best option or just throw XP Pro or somthing on the system and then can slowly add drives but also allow removal easily. This will not give any data recovery so if a drive fails thats it but will allow drives to be put in the system and taken out without any work. It also has the added bonus of being thrown in another machine if say a company wanted there files back (already have them on DVD so very rare). Any thoughts?
  17. Cheers. Looks like a good card. Had any issues at all? Only thing I was thinking about is the onboard graphics for the G33 is only $5 more than your card. In saying that I can attach an old graphics to the system and take out if want to keep power overheads down. Cheers
  18. Anybody tried the GA-G33-DS3R? Looking for a lower cost MB with 6-8SATA and onboard graphics. Dealt a lot with Gigabyte in other machines but not with unRaid? Thanks
  19. Thanks guys. Good idea about warm spare and contracts for service. As I know the customers semi personally I will have to think that one over as to how to approch plus I would be making money off any HD upgrades they make as well. In the process of getting final hardware config sorted.
  20. Thanks a lot for your comments. I think UnRaid would be the way to go. I think the system will initially be around 4-5TB but will be good to tell them the limit will be a lot higher at not much more cost than hard drive's (taking into account Sata cards once MB full). I also was not overly keen on going down the traditional RAID channel as I have heard of some horror stories and unRAID seems to reduce the risk to no more than a died HD in a system and even that should be able to be rebuilt with the parity drive? This company only has 2 full time staff and one part time so its really a low spec system but high data size. I will be going off lime-tech's systems (like the look of 1500 case) and forums but will not be buying off them due to being over in New Zealand.
  21. Hi Guys. I've been asked to setup a storage server for a local photography company. This will be for storage of data after the work has been done ie. all open jobs for editiing etc will be worked on and stored on local workstations. Performance is not really an issue. They also backup all jobs onto DVD's so this is also covered. Is unRAID the best way to go? I have set the system up at home with default setup with 3 drives and seems very good. Although I have not done much with it. Any advice would be much appreciated. This willl be a build from scratch so I'm open for suggestions on hardware as well
