Irish FX4

Yea all my share folders are set to secure and my son has read only access. All are set the same. On my computer i can only access my shares by ip now for some strange reason. I used to use \\tower all the time. On my sons computer i access the shares by \\tower on his account and mine. I can create a share called movies for him and i tried to delete a file through his account and it could not. Which is what i want. But the music folder i cant set up as i cant get past the user name and password. I have tried both through \\tower and ip to access music share but i cant get passed the user and password. All the other share folders set up with no problems.

Well i went up to my son computer and logged in under his windows account and added my shares movies folder to his computer and it added just fine but when i add my music folder share it asks for a user name and password so it type in the user name and password i set up for him on the unraid server which is the same user name and password he uses to log into windows but it wont accept it. Weird!! I tried my log in password and nada. Then i tried my wifi password and still nothing. Im not sure what to do now.

OK. First thing i did was reboot my router then I disconnected all my shares from my computer and then went to network and typed \\tower and it did not work so then I typed \\ ###.###.#.### the ip address and bingo all my shares and flash all showed up.Pheww! So then i re added all my shares by re mapping them and now there all back in my computer. No w back to the original problem. Then i re added my son as a user in the web console of unraid and added my son and set the shares as secure and as read only. Now im just going to go to his computer and set it up there and see if its working. I will post my findings. Thanks for the help so far. Fingers crossed.

Hey Trurl, Im running 5.0 rc8 Things have just gotten worse. Now i cant access my shares that i have set up on my windows account. It tells me check that the drive is not disconnected. I'm like WTF now? So i go to network connections and type in \\tower and nothing. I can log into my sons account and go to network connections and type \\tower and everything works fine. I can see the drives in my computer. So now im totally confused. I delete my sons user account on the server and set all folders back to public and still i cant access my shares or even see them in network connections under \\tower. Im lost. I will work on it again tomorrow as im at work right now.

I did set the user name and password as the same as his windows log in and password. It lets me into one folder but not the other. It says access denied.

OK. i just tried to set it up on my computer under my sons account. I went into network and right clicked on the folder i wanted to share. Which was movies. It asked for user name and password and i entered his user name and password that i set up on the tower and it worked. So now im trying to give access to my music folder and repeated the same steps but this time it says access denied. I cant seem to give him access to that music folder. I checked the settings on the tower and there both the same for each folder and are set to read only. Any ideas! Thanks.

I'm trying to set up access to my server for my son. I set up a user name and password for him on the server. Now when i go to his computer to right click on the share folder and map it as a drive it asks for a user name and password to which i put in the one i created on the server. But it keeps saying its the wrong password. I'm not sure i am doing it correct so any help or a point in the right direction would be great. Thanks.

The new permissions function does not exist in the 4.x series. It's listed as part of the upgrade process to be done after starting a 5.x array for the first time after an upgrade from 4.x. Will it be OK to do it now? I don't have any permission issues!

Thanks for the reply's. I guess i should run it as i don't remember seeing that when i upgraded from 4.6. Could it cause any problems if i run it now? I don't have any permission issues. I'm running 5.0-rc8a now. Will it be OK to run the permissions now? Thanks.

I have done all the updates since unraid 4.6 all the way up to the current unraid 5.0-rc8a. At no time have i ever done or seen this New Permissions. Do i need to run this? I have just resonantly added a new 2TB hard drive into my server. However since then it seems laggy and slow to respond to me selecting options like (Stop will take the array off-line and shutting down takes several second for it even register the button selection. Before the hard drive was installed it was instantaneous. This new hard drive is the first one i have added in a long time all the others were installed from the first build running i believe 4.6 for me. Then i saw this New Permissions thing and wondered. So i thought i would post it up and get some help from all you guys that know more about this than me. Thanks.

I'm running 5.0-rc5. I looked at the release notes but i am unsure which upgrade instructions to use! or Both are very similar but one has you delete the config/super.dat and the re-assign all your hard drives. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Do you have a Realtek NIC? Please boot -beta13 and log in via console. Then copy the system log to the flash using this command, then post here: cp /var/log/syslog /boot/syslog.txt Here's the system log you asked for. system_log_Oct_29_2011.txt

Ok i tried again today and it worked! Server booted up and i can access it the my browser now. phew!!!! Now to see if i still have the power down issue.

Johnm, Dude, How did you get the main header to show all of that info??? I like it. Maybe Mike could do this with his release!

I copied over the files to my stick and rebooted and nada! Could not connect to server. Tried several time and still got the same. Copied back beta 11 and i can connect just fine! Any ideas?

I to am looking for this info also. But so far no avail. I think what prostuff1 is saying is you just have to copy the beta 6a files bzimage and bzroot to your usb stick and over write the beta 12a bzimage and bzroot files.

Thanks for the reply dgaschk. I was running 5.0 beta 2 before i upgraded to beta 11. I did back up all the 5.0 beta 2 files on my stick before i upgraded to beta 11. If i wanted to go back to beta 2 how do i do that? I had no power down problems with that version. Sorry for the newbie questions but i don't want to screw up my server and all the files saved on it. I'm having a problem powering down my server since i updated to 5.0 beta10. When i hit the stop array button my browser just sits there saying waiting for Tower. It will just stay like this and not respond. If i refresh the page i cant get back into the main page menu. It then tells me cant find/connect to tower! It seems to shut down but not completely. Then my only other option is to press the power button on the tower to shut it down. I then have to power the server back up and then i can see the power down button. Once i press that it does a clean power down. Any help would be appreciated.

When i click stop array it seems to stop the array but the browser page just sits there trying to refresh. Once this happens i cant do anything with the server as its like it not there anymore. I don't get the refreshed page which allows you to power down the server. I end up having to do a hard power down! Can i down grade to a more stable one. From reading here i see beta 9 seems stable. How do i downgrade to that one? I am running no addons just the 5.0 beta11 software. Thanks.

I got Tower login prompt : I typed root. Then i got Linux 2.6.37.6-unRAID. root@tower:# Is this correct? What do i type now to see whats running?
