  1. Reaching out to all, keep up the support. We are helping (indirectly for now) of making some breakthroughs! https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/ Retro_Rex
  2. EcoGreen series, 3 platter (500GB), very interesting. I think I may jump on 2. http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=0&t=1511959
  3. Only 2 SATA ports though Mobo specs in link on bottom of page
  4. I just upped from 4.4.2. Everything seems to be working fine.
  5. I use a stacker CM as well, with the top 5.25 power/ports drive pulled out and 4 4-in-3 adapters. 16 drives is enough for me
  6. http://i.gizmodo.com/5161848/how-to-rip-blu+ray-discs I'm looking to make the jump from dvd to bluray on my server/htpc. Good info! Anyone do it a better way?
  7. I got 2. the firrmware fixes seem to have fixed the affected drives. I'm going to consolidate and sell off some of my smaller 250-400 GB IDE drives and try to move all SATA.
  8. I've had one for a few years. It works ok, but I use an HTPC now for playback. If you use a hard drive in the unit, it gets very hot. I could never make the unit stop stuttering randomly.
  9. I'll let a few others try the new firmware before I jump
  10. Monoprice! Huzzah! http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=105&cp_id=10208
  11. You are right..there is no way I would run drives in this thing without a big fan right in front of them.
  12. Looks like a good deal. I might jump on it...would upgrade my server to gigabit lan and 8 SATA all in one swoop!
  13. Anyone know how to map a NFS share on Vista Home Premium?
  14. Drat. Although I've never used them before, I think the PCI express 6 and 8 pin connectors only have +12V leads (and ground). Hard drives need +5V as well. So the adapter cable would be convoluted (need to pick up the 5V from a molex and a 12V from the PCI express connector)
  15. Big power supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817702007 http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTQ2NywsLGhlbnRodXNpYXN0
  16. Thanks Weebo! Unfortunately this is all way above my head!
  17. I would like my windows HTPC to access unraid over NFS rather than SAMBA to try to alleviate issues such as stuttering. Is there an easy way to currently do this? I do not use user shares, only disk shares. I've read through the other threads, but its still not clear how to do this(at least to me).
  18. As a Unraid user for the past few years, I am really glad to see these updates and increased functionality being added in. Way to go! As for the cache disk, I think this is a great idea. Another thought - a lot of users keep a spare drive around in case of drive failures. Would it be possible for the unraid box to automatically substitute this cache drive into the array and rebuild when a drive fails?
  19. Anyone try modifying the smb.conf file? I'd i've got occasional stuttering and I'd like to try it. Can anyone give more detailed instructions for how to modify this? I got as far as telnetting, using the vi command, typing in the new lines, then i'm stuck lol.
  20. Hey everyone, I'm looking for a simple converter as in the title, similar to the 4 in 3 converter the stacker ships with. I'm having trouble finding them online! I don't want anything fancy like a SATA backplane, just the metal bracket with a 120mm fan on it. They are hard to find online!

  22. With the stacker and drive trays..all of your drives are cooled by 40x40 fans. 11 of them!! Is this loud? and annoying pitch?

    Cases

Is the Stacker the end-all case for an unraid system? Has anyone tried anythign else? I'd like to have the removable trays ( so lots of exposed bays) but then again i'd love to have big 120 fans cooling the drives. Any suggestions?
  24. I think everyone would enjoy a few words on a weekly basis, just what you are working on, problems being faced, important milestones. Nothing big, just something new to talk about each week!
